Good restaurants. Excellent wine selections. Great menus. Pleasant decor. Friendly staff. Quiet ambiance with music in the background.
First room I was given had a connecting door to another room. No sound proofing so I could not sleep due to the neighbouring guests long speaker phone calls. I was moved to a better room with no connecting door and it was quiet.
Good location - close to the Forks, close to many restaurants
Lovely exterior and interior
Easy parking
All was good
The history
A movie was being filmed the day we arrived and we had no idea how to get to the front door with all the movie set blocking has to walk around the block dragging baggage in the snow. Not a pleasant experience
Beautiful property, beautiful view, front desk was responsive
No fridge which was annoying for the price
My wife and I loved the Fort Garry. It is a grand old hotel. Richly appointed lobby and bar. High ceilings. Wide corridors. Room was clean and comfortable. View of the river from our room was lovely. Concierge was extremely helpful and approachable. Recommended excellent shopping, museums and restaurants within walking distance.
Nothing
Простора кімната , все чисто , зручна парковка , професійний персонал
Відсутність міні холодильника , це дозволить готелю підвищити свій статус
The elegance of this wonderful gem of a historic hotel and professionalism of the staff
I’m really disappointed with my recent stay at The Fort Garry Hotel. I booked the Vice Regal Suite with a king bed expecting a higher-end experience, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations.
The room itself did not feel worth the price. While marketed as a premium suite, it lacked the level of comfort, upkeep, and attention to detail you would expect from a hotel of this reputation. Small issues added up quickly and made the stay feel underwhelming rather than special.
What was most concerning, however, was the service. Several interactions with staff felt cold, dismissive, and at times subtly disrespectful. As an Indigenous guest, these experiences were hard to ignore, especially given the broader history of how Indigenous people have been treated in spaces like this. There was a noticeable lack of cultural awareness and basic respect, which made me feel unwelcome rather than valued.
For a hotel that carries such a storied legacy, I would expect a much stronger commitment to equity, dignity, and guest experience. Unfortunately, that was not reflected during my stay.
As a designated National Historic Site of Canada, I would also expect a level of recognition for the role that Indigenous Peoples have played throughout history, especially given where the hotel is situated. While I understand the hotel has been a venue for Indigenous community events (e.g., the 20th Anniversary Gala for the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Manitoba and the Indigenous Parenting Gathering), I didn’t see any a single piece of Indigenous artwork or anything of that sort.
Overall, this experience did not meet expectations, particularly in light of the cost and the type of room booked. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to others looking for a comfortable, respectful, and welcoming experience in Winnipeg.
A zona do pequeno almoço
O quarto é muito básico, decepcionante, e o autoclismo não funcionou.
Nothing actually
No slippers, no toothbrushes, floors were not clean, a lot of short hairs on the bathroom floor
A beautiful historic hotel in downtown Winnipeg with a history of being haunted.
Unfortunately we never had time to walk around and see more of the historic parts but we heard that it has part of the original Fort Garry on the property.
I overheard that they are doing “upgrading the beautiful historical elevator’s and personally I think they should keep the stunning elevators the way they are.
New isn’t always better.
It’s a beautiful building with so much architecture details inside and out.
I’d maintain the historical beauty they have.
Timeless experience of history and architecture. Wonderful service at every level. The general manager showed us the main floor ballroom which was like a walk through time to the beginning of the 19th century. After a comment made by my daughter to the waitress at the Italian restaurant, the chef came to greet us at our table and brought out a special dessert on the house. As she said once, 1000 compliments to the chef. We will be back again
Stayed here for three nights total on the way to/from Churchill with Natural Habitat Adventures. This hotel is well maintained and is Reisen of the glory days when hotels were built with elegant charm. Beautiful architecture. Breakfast buffet left a little to be desired but food was good overall.
Location, room, bed
Parking, area to unload.
Parking is terrible. 2 nights with nothing but valet parking available. Not good
I stayed at this hotel three nights in October, and I loved it. It was the perfect union of a historical hotel and modern, luxurious comforts. The mattress and top-shelf linens afforded wonderful rest. Appointments were tasteful, and the entire staff was super helpful, friendly, and courteous. The bar and restaurant were wonderful with delicious food and drinks and excellent service in an opulent setting. The complimentary Wi-Fi was strong. I would love to return.
Lovely old hotel. Friendly staff. Loved the Oval Room
Room with a view of a brick wall. Fortunately they changed my room for the second night
