Quite, cozy and very polite, friendly and helpful staff. Money worthy
based in a good location for sightseeing, eg chester zoo only a mile and a half away, liverpool half an hour away through tunnel, etc. cleanliness good, and breakfasts good value for money.
The food was very good, room was good, just needed updating. Good parking facilities. Some spa facilities were not working.
The staff very friendly and inviting, good service
Disappointed by our stay. Booked as it was near Chester and billed as a spa hotel, as a special treat for my daughter's birthday. Was very disappointed for the price paid would not expect broken bedroom window, TV did not work, room very hot and no fan, toilet pipes made loud noise when flushed, pool cloudy in appearance, only one packet of biscuits in a room for 3, changing rooms bad snell, hot tub not working. Very dated. It's a shame as there is potential, location good and gym well equipped but definitely not worth the £200 a night I was charged.
We arrived on a Friday evening for a murder mystery event. As we drove in, my first impression was that Iwas arriving at the Crossroads Motel from the 1970s.
The lady on reception was very pleasant and welcoming, and we were allocated our room without any issues. Unfortunately, the room itself reminded me of an old nurses' home room from the 1980s. The bathroom was probably the best part of the room, although the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall and the shower screen felt unstable. The windows needed cleaning inside and out, and the room had a musty smell as soon as we walked in.
The corridors were also very dirty (see photos), and the hotel as a whole is in desperate need of refurbishment and a thorough deep clean.
The staff lacked basic hospitality knowledge. We purchased a bottle of wine and asked for a wine cooler but were given a beer bucket instead. Later, I ordered two glasses of wine and was handed the card reader without being told the price. It showed £25, so I questioned it and was then told I hadbeen charged for a bottle of wine rather than two glasses. On another occasion, I ordered a gin andtonic and asked for it to be served in a gin glass, but the staff did not seem to know what I meant.
Breakfast was a buffet consisting of tinned fruit, cheap bread, and some fresh melon. The hot food had been left out too long and was dried up. We sat at a table for two, pulled a chair out, and one of the arms fell off. There were cobwebs throughout the dining room, reinforcing the impression that the hotel is dated and badly in need of a deep clean.
The murder mystery event itself took place in afunction room and, unfortunately, it was chaotic. There were too many people talking and shouting at the same time, making it very difficult to follow what was happening. As a result, we didn't enjoy the experience at all. The only positive was thatthe three-course meal was actually quite good.
Would we return? Absolutely not.
Overall, this was a very disappointing stay at ahotel that desperately needs investment, better housekeeping, and improved staff training. Sadly, the murder mystery event was just as disappointing as the accommodation.
Breakfast was nice, bed was comfy
Toilet didn’t flush, staff seemed to be irritated when we reported it. Door kept getting stuck. Windows open onto roof
The staff, when we arrived, were absolutely lovely. They interacted well with the children and seemed very warm and welcoming
Upon arrival I was convinced we were in the wrong place. The building looked nothing like the pictures, it was so rundown and sad looking. To find our room it was like a rabbit run over dated, garishly patterned carpets. The bed was so uncomfortable, I felt as if I was going to be bounced off every time my husband turned over. The towel rail in the windowless bathroom was on and piping hot with no way of turning it off. This affected the temperature of the room as well. It was already a warm night and this extra heat made it uncomfortable. This was made even worse by the fact the window latches were broken so it could only open a small amount. The toilet was hard to flush, having to repeatedly pump the handle. It would then carry on trickling for 10-15 mins. We like to have the odd night away as a family of four, this was easily the worst hotel we have stayed in.
Lindsey at the reception was soo lovely and attentionate, ready to sort every query, also met the manager Clive who was very welcoming and detail oriented, and the breakfast was also good, kudos to the chef, with Libby, kyi and Errol who delivered great customer service. I also had a swim and tried the sauna, lovely experience, will definitely go back
Excellent hotel with friendly, professional staff and delicious food. Special thanks to Olusola for her kindness and outstanding service. I highly recommend this hotel!
Swimming pool. Comfortable beds. Good breakfast. Good value. Welcome note on bed
Sauna in ladies not working and steam room now gone, with no staff around to ask about it. Room for 3 but only had 2 chips ( provided another when asked ..) welcome note also present to previous guest so? Cleaning complete?
Friendly and helpful staff. Facilities very good, had a swim in the pool. Room spacious and comfortable. Competitive pricing including breakfast.
Only slight negative, the cooked breakfast items had been displayed well before we attended breakfast and consequently were a little dried out although still hot and tasted ok.
Nothing
The property was clean but tired and outdated. Chair in room had no padding in seat, or was broken, my partner had to place a pillow on it to use the mirror when doing her makeup, the shower tap fell of when turning it, toilet roll holder was loose.
The advert says hotel and spa. This attracted us to this hotel as we have stayed at Soas before and wanted a tranquil and relaxing stay. This wasn't the case as a wedding party were using the hotel on this day. As a result when eating we had several children bashing on the piano for over 2 hours as we ate. When asking what flavour the chicken curry was the waiter didn't know and I asked him to please ask, he returned and said "it's a tomato and onion gravy " it didn't seem appetising,so I chose steak which was served very well. After eating to escape the noise we decided to go outside and have a glass of wine, however there was no alternative outdoor space as the wedding party occupied it all and all seating was being used, our only option was to return to the room to discover our room was above the function room where the wedding celebration was taking place.
Location
Room smelled. Weird people hanging about, Marks all over the room. Bed sloped and uncomfortable. No glasses in the room. Shower awful. Key didn’t work more than once. whole placed was tired. Plugs in room didn’t work.
