Terrible. No hot water, mould in bathrooms, toilet roll holder doesn’t stay on, their card machine doesn’t work. The highlight is the atrocious breakfast, for which an absurdly high fee is charged. Avoid at all costs.
Location superb if you want to use public transportation. Tram stop and metro just outside the door. Really easy access to the city.
Look, this is one of the traditional style hotels in central/east Europe. On one hand it’s nice to think you’re supporting independents and not a global chain. On the other hand, a lot of these seemingly independent hotels are owned by conglomerates or wealthy businessmen who own several of them so don’t get too sentimental.
The charm of these old style hotels is the old fashioned oldy worldly feel. But the downside is they are often falling apart. And, in truth, not very comfortable.
This one is better than the experience in a similar one last time. Bathroom clean. Douvets seem new and good quality. Beds smell and feel very clean.
You can tell that furniture has all been recently reupholstered in lovely matching cloth, which is showing intention and effort. It’s beautiful to look at. But sadly misplaced effort because the furniture isn’t very comfortable. The sofa is like a museum piece settee which is beautiful but not appropriate for lounging after a tiring day.
They put the TV in a bizarre spot on the same side of the wall as the bed headboard. So you can’t see it at all from the bed. You can see it from the sofa, but it’s not comfortable at all so you don’t really want to plop down and turn the tv on. It’s reminiscent of Hotel Inspector episode where some small hotel owner has all their own ideas about what they personally value but it’s mismatched to what a traveler wants and needs.
Downsides of these traditional hotels: they use terrible mattresses and pillows. The mattresses are not springy pillowtop like western mattresses, they’re like dense mats with no give. The pillows are huge and square with no neck support whatsoever. If I hadn’t packed a small travel neck support pillow, my neck would be screaming.
This one was a better experience than a similar style hotel which had even worse mattresses. If you’re young or have a strong strait back, maybe you can sleep on anything. I can’t. But, as I said, this one isn’t hurting my back and hips as bad as the last hotel so bonus points for that. The pillows, however, are unusable if you wake up with a sore neck if you don’t get neck support.
The other thing with these old hotels is there is like no staff. The front desk person is alone apart from when cleaner comes in AM. If anything happens like heating, water, temperature control, there’s no quick fix. Especially if after 10pm. It occurred to me that guests are ALONE in the hotel overnight in these places. What if there was an emergency? It’s not only this one, it’s all of the ones like this. Luckily we had no problems and everything worked fine.
I might use Klarrin again because bed wasn’t as terrible as the other similar old style hotel we tried, especially if I can find more portable neck support to carry with me. But if I am traveling alone or for better sleep, sadly I may need to go with a more international chain next time just simply for a more western style mattress and peace of mind that there is someone at reception 24/7 and a staff on hand.
If you are a woman traveling alone, personally I wouldn’t want to be in these hotels that leave the guests completely alone at night incase someone dangerous was lurking around the building. I’ve been here with a friend and felt more safe. But when I return alone, I want to know I can ring the desk if something odd happens.
So would I return to Klarinn? Yes with some sort of portable neck support pillow alternative and with a traveling companion. No if my back and neck really just want a comfortable western style sleeping set up, and no if I’m going to be traveling alone.
The mattress is thin and so the bed is hard. On each morning we requested a room move or an extra mattress but no effort was made to accommodate us and eventually we just gave up.
There is some construction going on in the hotel so there’s dust everywhere place is covered in dust.
The aircon is hit and miss but mostly miss and the room was too warm most days.
Housekeeping is basic and they missed an empty shower squeezy tube thing for 3 days so we were left with a hand soap squeezy thing to work from.
The breakfast is basic but adequate. The breakfast staff are friendly.
The hotel is centrally located and the rooms are big and the bathroom is nice although there’s no shower as such , it’s a hand held shower hose in the bath.
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel! Easy to walk to the square and restaurants!
I have stayed here 3 times total since 2021. I made a reservation for the Royal Suite that includes not only a large bath with sprayer but also a separate free-standing shower. It's listed on the Expedia description this way that the room has also a separate shower and I stayed in that particular Suite in 2021. I was given a Suite of equal square footage and rooms but no separate shower This was annoying. I am 60 years old; we were there for a week in this room and climbing in and out of the bath that is up two tiled steps is dangerous and there is no handle for support. If it was just for 2 nights it wouldn't matter, but it was for 7 nights. If I booked that type of room, it should have been reserved for me as it is listed on Expedia.
The room was gorgeous but not well maintained. For example, no shampoo and conditioner, no cattle, no tea cups. The bathroom had bidet and deep, very nice bathtub; however the toilet was dirty and no ability to take a shower, no shower curtain as well. We were not able to indicate if we are slip and don’t want to be disturbed as well as to let cleaning ladies know that we left the room.
The location is absolutely primary, reception services are great.
What a great hotel
Few minutes walk across road from metro
Speedy check in
Staff so friendly
Room spacious and had a junior suite
2 nice size rooms
Clean and comfortable
Bathroom good size
My stay only one night.Super location, quiet, nice interior, clean and I like this hotel very much. Will come back.Only thing is the lift is not at each floor, but between so luggage difficulty and lots of stairs. The breakfast was o.k.
No responses to 5 emails sent. no one at the front desk until 10 am and no one after 10 pm. No electricity on two occasions. Sat n the dark for two hours until fixed. No hot water when the electricity is out. Furnishings are old Mattresses need replacing as well as the pillows. Chairs were worn out. Frayed wire on one of the lamps. we stayed in the junior suite
An interesting hotel with an old world feeling. Parking can be problematic. Overall a good value.
Great old-fashioned hotel with amazing view of the castle. So-so breakfast buffet. I had a huge room with a tiled bathroom and a monstrous tub; I felt like a king! However, my first night there was only tepid water. I’m glad they fixed it on subsequent nights. Lots of charm and I’d happily return.
I just stayed here one night but everything was perfect
Nice place to stay
Having read the reviews of others, I booked with an open mind and a low expectation. I’ll start with the negatives and will then explain why I’ve given a rating of three stars:
Negatives:
1. As indicated by others, the liquid soap in the bathroom is indeed very watery, which is why we used it for hand washing but brought our own shower gel.
2. For those keen on modern decor, this is not the hotel for you. I thought that this must be a very old hotel as the vibe is of several old decades of “taste” thrown up into a bedroom and bathroom. Personally I’d seen photos from other reviews and, given that I read that the hotel was built in 2010 and more modern than I thought, I found it more amusing than offensive.
3. According to other reviews the breakfast is not good. There is a fridge in the room so we bought some fruit, yoghurt, rolls, cheese etc from one of the shops and made our own (note that yoghurts had to be eaten without spoons, as no cutlery was available).
4. The room had a TV but no remote control. We enquired at reception to be told that there is indeed no remote control.
5. The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable, and twin beds had been pushed together with two single-bed bottom sheets tucked in horizontally, and two single duvets. It didn’t exactly exude romantic break vibes, but again expectations were already low.
6. The room is cleaned for your arrival but not cleaned during your stay. I say “cleaned”, but my husband pulled a chunk of hair out of the bathroom sink plug that definitely didn’t match either of ours.
Positives:
1. The hotel staff were, on the whole, very sweet and helpful. We were also able to leave our luggage safely with them as we arrived before check-in opened and we left Prague several hours after we checked out.
2. The location is absolutely brilliant! It’s a short walk from the castle, the old town, in fact we got to most places within 10-15 minutes.
3. We only paid £55 per night!
To summarise, there’s absolutely no way that this is anywhere near the four star it claims to be. That said, if you want a basic place to sleep and wash, that’s very cheap and centrally located then don’t rule this one out. Take on board the negatives, keep expectations low and you will get what you paid for and nothing more.
quiet - very near bridge - not charles bridge but the next one upriver. walkable all over. nice hotel and staff very helpful and friendly. room nice but we did not have a shower - only bath so we had to get used to this. and one day unfortunately not enough hot water ??? but ok otherwise.
Bed was comfortable and room was extremely spacious. However, there was no hot water every day after around 10pm. Also found several little midges (fly like bugs) on my bed, most likely because the window was left open when I checked into my room. For those with accessibility issues, be wary that the elevator stops between floors so you’ll have to walk down a flight of stairs either way after using the elevator.
The front desk employees, particularly the young man was very nice/helpful. The room it self was unsafe. The doors could easily be pushed in. In addition the beds were stained and new sheets were requested as there was hair on them, both beds.
Lage ist gut, aber es bedarf dringend einer Renovierung. Auch Kleinigkeiten werden nicht in Ordnung gebracht.
More like b and b ,no food in evening. Reception closed at 10 pm so could not get even get bottle of water.Rooms dated.
