historic building location
exceptional staff; above and beyond bellman service; we felt well taken care of
no cashier at the property
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Sent us to an excellent restaurant. Helpful in planning our activities for a short stay (3 nights) in Chicago. Nice breakfast experience at the restaurant. Again, excellent service.
Room was not all that clean. Stains on the carpet which would not be expected from a hotel of this caliber. Towels were frayed which was unusual for a hotel at this level and supplies not ample. Would stay there again based on quality of service and location.
Gorgeously appointed hotel in a fantastic location. The building is iconic and the staff were so helpful and delightful. They could not have done enough to assist.
Nothing. It was perfect!
Our experience was terrific from beginning to end. Micheal greeted us at the door and he was the last person we saw upon our departure. He took very good care of us
I stayed at The Pendry Chicago for several nights and booked through Bilt’s Home Away From Home program. Given the property’s reputation and price point, I expected a much more polished experience. Unfortunately, the stay fell well short of what I would consider luxury.
The problems started at check-in. There was no mention of the package, no acknowledgment of the benefits, and no explanation of what was included with my booking. The front desk associate seemed unfamiliar with the program, and there did not appear to be any note attached to my reservation. No one gave me any real orientation to the hotel either: restaurants, breakfast, amenities, Wi-Fi, or even the basic details you would expect at check-in. I eventually had to ask for a manager, who provided a one-level room upgrade and walked me through the on-property benefits. At a hotel in this category, that should not require escalation.
One of the benefits was a $60 breakfast credit for two people. In reality, that does not come close to covering breakfast for two once coffee, tax, and service charges are added. A luxury hotel benefit should feel like a benefit, not a minor offset against already high pricing.
Service throughout the stay was inconsistent. The bell staff and room service delivery team were friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the front desk and concierge experience felt detached and unwelcoming. There was very little warmth, polish, or sense of hospitality.
The room itself was fine, but not memorable. Comfortable enough, but very average for the rate. The light switches were oddly configured, including needing to go toward the front door area to turn off certain lights. There was also a light inside the wardrobe area where pants were hung that flickered like a strobe and would not stay on properly. The windows were visibly dirty. The Wi-Fi was painfully slow, which made the room even less functional for anyone trying to work. Room service was also extremely expensive, with delivery fees and additional charges layered onto already high menu prices.
The biggest issue by far was the noise. I had read other reviews mentioning it and assumed it might be typical downtown-hotel feedback. It was not. The noise was constant: sirens, honking, emergency vehicles, street activity, and maintenance or repair work with power tools. This was not occasional background noise. It was disruptive enough that working from the room, taking client calls, or getting meaningful rest was difficult.
For a property at this level, the soundproofing is simply not adequate. Better-insulated windows should be standard, especially in a downtown location where street noise is predictable.
Overall, I would not stay here again. Chicago has too many strong hotel options to justify luxury pricing without a luxury-level experience. Between the inconsistent service, average room, painfully slow Wi-Fi, expensive food and beverage, and the inability to work or sleep without constant disruption, this was a disappointing stay.
Spacious room and a fantastic location
Traffic noise was very loud… but quieted late in the evenings
Once again another memorable stay at The Pendry! It’s always a pleasure to stay here because of its location but the staff of The Pendry Chicago is second to none! Always excited to arrive because I know without a doubt we’ll receive the warmest welcome. It starts off with the doorman Dolapo! He’ll say welcome back with a salute and the warmest heartfelt smile. Also included in the greeting is the Valet staff of Mike, and the whole staff. Then comes Perry who always smiles and loads our bags and escorts us in. Muriel is next with a welcome back and trust me a very professional front desk lady who handles the pressure of so many checking in and out seems like non-stop.
Crystal, Daniel, Maria, of the front desk staff always take care of us throughout the day as well. Jalesa will always contacts me to make sure everything is going well and if I need anything she’ll help in anyway she can. Now Christian from room service made a special trip just to bring some condiments, Olivia was very pleasant and was enjoyed as well. I know I’m missing a few names but that’s ok I’ll do better to remember next time. To be honest, always sad to go, but happy to return!
This location is just perfect, in the heart of the city, adjacent to the museums and the Magnificent Mile, walking distance to the riverwalk and SO MANY RESTAURANTS! The accommodations are very clean and it was a great ambiance. Chic and vibrant but quiet at the same time. I would definitely stay here again!
Always love staying at the Pendry Hotel in Chicago. Location, size of hotel, love the historic building and what they did to preserve it and turn it into a hotel. The staff, lounge areas, bar cafe.... and beds..... all fantastic.
Room was extremely noisy from outside the sirens and horns. You will not get a good sleep. The valet expect you to carry cash to tipon hand. If not, then they will be extremely rude. Make sure that you are in a suit to fit in the tire, because if you are in any street attire, the management will look at you and judge you and look at you like you do not deserve to be there. If you’re going to this place, make sure you wear a three-piece suit and look like you have $1 million because if you don’t, you will definitely get judged and you will definitely not like the vibe that you are getting there. I recommend trying somewhere else I would never visit this place again.
Stayed here for 1 night before Chicago half marathon. Reservation via FHR from Amex. There were 4 of us including two adult children running the race next day. We arrived around noon and a room was available but on a lower floor. I was disappointed that the only upgrade option through FHR was to a room with one king bed. I feel upgrades should be able to accommodate the same number of guests. Our room was nice. Two queen beds and standard amenities. Nothing over and above what I would consider normal room amenities. Coffee maker, water, overpriced snacks and alcohol. My biggest complaint was SO MUCH noise from the street below. Between sirens, horns and showoffs it was non stop until after 10:30PM.
The staff was kind. In general it was just...fine. Valet is $82/night. I realize we had limited exposure to the property with only a one night stay, but for a 5 star location, it was just somewhat underwhelming. Probably not anything we would seek out on a return trip. There are plenty of other options for the same price in the area.
The Pendry is in a class of its own: sheer elegance with top notch, dedicated staff all around that one would expect from this high caliber of a hotel. Located in a beautiful Art Deco building in right Michigan Avenue, plenty of F & B and fun attractions/options nearby, attached cafe/brasserie Venteux, unforgettable rooftop bar and wonderful gym. Bar/"living room" area east of the foyer, also a great spot to enjoy some cocktails. Spacious rooms, comfy bed & sleek bathroom. 5 out of 5!!! Thank you the staff again --- Tre
The hotel was wonderful and the staff was incredibly friendly, especially Dolapo! He was very friendly and super helpful with anything we needed. He took great care of us!
Dolapo was just the most wonderful doorman! We was so kind and helped us. And remembered our kids every time they came in. He is just the best!
The service at this hotel is incredibly uneven. We did not receive our upgrade that was supposed to be rewarded through American Express. I complained about loud noise banging in the middle of the night, and no one made any attempt to resolve the situation. And while there was a generous credit for both breakfast and other amenities in the facilities, no one offered to make a reservation or mentioned that it would be very difficult to actually use that in the restaurant, which is always full and has a long line. The rooms are perfectly adequate.
As you well know, Chicago has so many hotels but only the Pendry has Muriel Tan,
Perry and Colin. I mean it when I say that when the word hospitality comes up I will have their smiling faces and incredibly attentive service immediately coming to mind. Muriel tracked down CityPass procedures for us and sent us a most timely message as we explored The Art Institute. Perry did not just give me directions he walked me to the Hop on Hop Off bus stop while also suggesting other special experiences for visitors and Colin in Engineering so patiently and graciously helped us reboot our TV to watch Netflix. My husband and I were looking forward to our visit to your "Windy City" but we never imagined that the professionalism and friendliness of your staff would be one of the highlights. Please thank them for making our trip such a lovely memory. The Pendry is rightly recognized for its beautiful architectual exterior but the hotel staff within is what really makes this such a delightful hotel experience.
Mediocre. Not luxury. Overpriced on the Chase sapphire reserve card and Amex platinum benefits. No upgrade given Loud Ac that kept me up at night. Found bugs in my room
