Clean rooms very nice property
No heated pool
It is definitely an outdated 90's hotel given the decor but is in decent shape. The people working there were really nice and helpful. The room itself was clean, spacious and comfortable. It would say that in its prime it was a 4.5 Star Hotel but is now a 3.5 Star Hotel as many updates are required. When we were flying from Hilo to Honolulu, we saw the roof of the hotel and there was fire damage (perhaps volcano).
I stayed here for 7 nights. When I arrived to check in, luckily there was only one person in front of me. Once that person left, I stepped forward to approach the counter and after being completely ignored, the front desk employee (Josiah) asks me “do you need help with something?” as I stood there with my suitcase in hand. I told him I was checking in. Josiah just said “credit card and ID” so I handed him both. Then I asked him if it was possible to get a room on a high floor. He very seriously said “with how busy we are you get what you get.” I found it to be pretty rude for him to tell me that when a simple “no, we are fully booked tonight” would have sufficed. I didn’t feel like complaining to a supervisor since I was there to relax and I was tired from a cross-country trip so I just ignored him and went to my room. I wasn’t at the hotel much during my first few days there (I was out, busy sightseeing) but a few days later I noticed there was black mold around the A/C unit in the room. There were several LAYERS of dust in the edges between the walls and carpet as well as the wooden luggage rack by the desk (see photos). To top it off, there little bugs crawling around the wooden desk which looked like termites (see photos). As soon as I noticed I went to the front desk and asked for a manager so I could address these issues. The girl working at the front desk was very nice. I did not get her name but she was the only employee I saw that had red hair. She told me that the manager wasn’t available at the moment and asked me what was going on. I gave her all the details and she immediately apologized and started trying to get a hold of the manager. She was not able to contact him but told me that she would let the manager know as soon as he got back to call me. About 10 minutes later, tue same young lady called my room and told me they would be changing me to another room a few doors down. She then came and brought my new room keys to me and profusely apologized for the issues and offered her help in the future. The manager then called my room and he also apologized and offered his help as well. I was happy with how they dealt with the situation and the new room was a major improvement, no issues there. After all that, my stay was better but I still find it unacceptable for any hotel room anywhere to have issues like these.
dirty hotel, not surprised when they don't have staff to clean or change sheets in room. Hotel make it where trash in just thrown in hall ways because they don't clean rooms. Be prepared to step over trash and dirty towels up and down hall ways. Saw some junk piled up against fire escape stairs, good job Hilo Hawaiian Hotel by Wyndham
changed sheets and towels daily, empty trash cans in room. Basic hotel cleaning practices, that this property "Does Not" do and we stayed for 5 days. Said they would change sheets on day 3, they did not do it. Called down when I came back to the room at night asked why. The said it should have been done yesterday, it was not. Staff at front desk apparenetly tell you whatever they want. They had no one to change two beds, no one on staff. They sent up sheets so we could change bedding on day 4. Motel 6 at least changes bedding and towels daily Hilo Hawaiian Hotel does not, next they will ask us to launder sheets so its more convenient for them. Don't stay here, Also had the nerve when rating hotel to ask for "tips for staff", what staff no one took care of our room.
Pretty bay and view, nice lobby
Bad wifi, old and outdated rooms and bathrooms, the black out curtains were missing a big piece
