The property was conveniently located to where our event was held. The staff was accommodating to let us cancel our remainder of our stay because of the weather forecast.
The elevators didn’t work but I understand because of the hurricane conditions the island suffered.
The location is great - right in Hilo Bay.
The furniture, carpet, bathrooms are all extremely old and worn. Things are very dirty. Cobwebs in the light fixtures above the front desk.
The buffet both dinner and breakfast
That there was no microwave in the room and for breakfast there was no ice cream
Location park and golf course nearby were great
Asked for a room with deck, got a room where you are looking at roof top. Was told the hotel was booked. Looked pretty empty to me.
Good location on the water and close to the airport
Smelly room (maybe the old carpet ?) Wall paper in poor condition.
Friendly staff. Nice location, comfortable beds, clean rooms
-Air conditioner was not working and the room we stayed in was hot
-shower wasn’t draining
Location
Old furniture, properties need updates
Liked the breakfast very much. Beautiful location.
A bit more attentive to needs in room
Blick auf den Vulkan
Einige Tapetennähte waren offen und dort befanden sich Schimmelspuren. Das Fenster konnte nicht geöffnet werden.
The hotel is really showing its age. Even back then, 19 years ago, it was a bit outdated, and it seems nothing has been done to it since. We were promised room service every two days. However, no one came, so we let them know on the third day. The staff was a mixed bag—some were friendly, others less so. There were quite a few issues, but once we pointed them out, the problems were resolved quickly. The refrigerator, for example, was broken but was replaced immediately. Parking isn’t a problem here. The lobby smells very unpleasant, but the rooms were clean.
Nada
I don't usually write hotel reviews, but this stay was memorable enough that I felt compelled to share my experience.
For the price, this hotel offers good value. The entire property - from the lobby and hallways to the guest rooms - is clearly dated, but everything was clean, functional, and well maintained. We stayed in a double queen room, which was surprisingly spacious. Our family of four was able to open all of our suitcases with plenty of room left to move around comfortably.
One thing I really appreciated was the soundproofing. Hilo is full of loud frogs and birds at night, but once the windows were closed, we couldn't hear them at all, making it easy to get a good night's sleep.
What really makes this hotel stand out, though, is its atmosphere. If you're familiar with the "backrooms" internet aesthetic, you'll know exactly what I mean. The hallways are lined with bright white fluorescent lights in a repetitive pattern, giving them an oddly endless appearance. Inside the room, the plain, faded yellow walls around the sink and bathroom add to the uncanny feeling. Combined with the excellent soundproofing and the quiet interior, the whole place has a surreal, liminal-space vibe.
For most people, this probably won't matter one way or the other. But if you're someone who enjoys the backrooms aesthetic, staying here becomes an unexpectedly fascinating experience. It's not luxurious or modern, but it's clean, affordable, comfortable, and strangely memorable.
