I stayed at the Bella Vista Hotel from 2nd–9th February and unfortunately would not return.
The food quality was consistently poor. Soups appeared powdered, the eggs seemed reconstituted, and as a vegetarian there was very little choice, minimal variety, and very little fresh food.
Every morning at 7:30am the hotel reverberated with what sounded like heavy drilling or jackhammering, making rest impossible.
There were frequent disturbances from groups of young people congregating directly outside my room late at night and early in the morning. Doors were left open and repeatedly slammed. Despite raising this issue, my request to move rooms was refused for two days.
I was also trapped in a lift in complete darkness for approximately 10 minutes. When released, reception showed little concern and no warning notice was placed on the lift before it continued to be used.
Most concerning of all, at 5am on one night a person entered my room and physically shook my feet, insisting my flight was due — it was five days away. This was deeply distressing. When I reported the incident, the receptionist appeared uninterested and refused to acknowledge that it could have been a member of staff, which I found particularly troubling.
The hotel did appear clean, and the housekeeping manager was polite and willing to listen. However, this experience fell significantly below four-star standard and, in my view, does not meet the level it advertises.
I would not recommend staying here.
Not the right bed in the bedroom and a terrible view to a wall
I cannot fault this hotel. The room was spotless, being cleaned every day by a lovely lady. The room was comfortable with a big balcony. We were on the main road and once the door was closed the noise did not affect us at all.
All the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was fine, not amazing but there was always something we would eat.
The weather was dismal so didnt go in the pool but it looked nice.
All in all we would happily go back to this hotel.
The environment is pleasant, the staff are professional and the room service was satisfactory. But the WiFi in the room was very bad and frustrating,
The hotel staff where very friendly and helpful, food was excellent, plenty of choices, indoor pool was hot and a good jacuzzi, spent every day in both of them, stayed over Christmas and new year, was made to feel at home
The only thing missing was at dinner no water was on the table, maybe a jug of ice water or a water fountain would be a good idea.
The room was a decent size with hot water all the time. Bed was comfortable. The overall appearance of the hotel was spotless.
The staff are amazing and the hotel is clean. The food is limited in choice and bland. The wine was so bad we ended up paying (although all- inclusive) just to have a decent drink! Our room was internal so there was no view, no light coming in. Our room always felt dark.
The outdoor pool was shaded by the building around it so again no sun.
The area has no shops or bars.
Probably the worst holiday I have ever been on.
Sunday l9th Nov unch buffet food was average. 50 italian student came at one go and food was finished without being replaced.
How this is listed as 4 star is beyond anyone’s imagination. I have stayed in better B&B’s ! If anyone is going all inclusive don’t, we just had the breakfast package and they stop at 9 !! Imagine being on holiday and having to rush for breakfast. Facilities are terrible and dated !
Nice pool. Good drinks prices. Convenient location
There is no way on earth this a 4 star hotel we visited a friend here and was shocked how old and dated it was. It had a smell all throughout lower ground floor like insence sticks mixed with old food smell very unpleasant. Breakfast stops being served at 9am the time when most people get up and the dinner choice was limited and very low budget l would not call it a buffet. Minced meat, rice and potatoes poor
We had booked our holiday in Malta well in advance with the hotel being described as a traditional 4 star hotel. I'll start with the positives;
• It had a decent pool area with the higher level being quiet , we didn’t have to fight for sunbeds.
• Large restaurant area.
• Rooftop area with a plenty of sunbeds.
• Indoor pool and jacuzzi, also a gym and self service laundry.
• A hot 20 minute walk from St Paul’s bay.
• Next to a main road where plenty of public transport is located .
• Relatively clean and rooms were cleaned every day.
And now the negatives;
• We had booked the hotel well in advance , we got there to find our standard double was very small , a balcony where your lucky if one person could sit on it , no natural light coming into the room and no welcoming sachets of tea or coffee, we upgraded to a larger room with a balcony right away and informed them of our displeasure, the person on duty at the time wasn’t very helpful, it took a good few hours to get another room.
• The hotel was full of students on a learning exchange, all be it they were studying for most of the days or out , however from 10pm till 1pm on our corridor the excited 14-16 year olds ran up and down the corridor shouting etc and slamming doors , we put up with it for one night and contacted the team leaders , that worked for about a minute but the noise continued throughout the ten days we were there. If we had known the above we wouldn’t have booked the hotel.
• The rooms were clean but dated , loose tiles on the floor and dirty curtains.
• The food was buffet style , breakfast what you expect and it was ok . Dinner (half board) was limited and apart from a few things quite tasteless .
• We woke up to scaffolding being erected one morning and a workman popping his head up through our balcony whilst another sat on one of the balcony chairs drinking water , having a cigarette and playing on his phone. It would have been nice if staff had forewarned us , the work on the underside repairs remained for 5 days.
• Staff were nice in the best part , with Katrina being exceptionally helpful. Bar staff good but didn’t know how to make quite a few drinks .
• The hotel itself is I need of a good upgrade to make it a decent four star.
• If you have a room with a balcony onto the roadway be prepared for loads of traffic noise.
• The rooftop bar is never open, if you want something you need to get a lift 6 floors down to the bar or shop , rooftop jacuzzi needs fixed properly.
• The indoor pool and jacuzzi are decent but poorly lit , jacuzzi could be doing with an upgrade.
Overall we enjoyed our stay in Malta , the old town in Valletta is great , go to a festa and see the fireworks, Camino bay was ok , it's just a small beach with no real facilities, the blue lagoon was disappointing, burger vans etc perched on the top of the hill , no real place to sit and far too many boats in the lagoon at one time, for people with young kids you have to walk up and down on rocky paths. The bus services are decent and cheap, the Maltese people in general were really nice . St Paul's bay itself has had all the romanticism of Malta scrubbed away and it is all about the tourists , restaurants, bars and noises hotels.
The Bella Vista is a best a 3 star hotel , with a few upgrades it could hit 4 stars , it needs a little bit of TLC.
Didnt like the fact that they didnt suppy water gym on 1 person in at a time, couldn't take towels to pool, no shampoo in bathroom, called down to fix the leaking water in toilet and no one came to fix it.
One light out in the room upon arrival and the fridge was leaking. There was also water on the floor had to put a towel down so my mum wouldn't fall.
Bad, dirty, unskilled staff, they didn't understand and they didn't speak English and no other language. Very poor breakfast. The room was just making the bed, they never washed the floor, we had sand everywhere. The bath full of ants and several insects, air conditioning did not go at all despite the 39 degrees every day. Terrible
As soon as we entered the hotel we were met with a hostel environment the staff were arrogant and dismissive, not too mention the rooms, they were run down and full of ants, wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.
I made a reservation in January 2025 for April. I received emails with two reservations for the same date, the same people. In March 2025, I sent an email to request confirmation of only one reservation. When I arrived at reception in April, there were still two reservations. I clarified this with my March email and subsequently paid only one reservation of €570.00. Upon my return, a month later (May), they also charged me for the other reservation (another €570.00). Why didn't they ask for payment for both reservations in my presence? Kudos to the management!
I paid twice for the same days and the same people
We have stayed there many times over the years and we like it there very much its not luxury but its very clean staff are excellent and overhe years lots of improvements
Offered this as a replacement for canifor hotel. That was travel company and another disappointing experience. Didn't realise there was a small one person or chair lift till late in our stay and I am disabled. Arrived at about midnight. In darkness apart from one man on reception. He didn't offer to carry luggage, showed us way by the regular lifts to behind games room. Let lift close on me with my husband inside and left. I didn't have a clue where I was going. Paid for a garden view originally, ended up in some type of self catering flat at the rear overlooking the street behind with building work and constant trucks and garbage trucks in and out. Verandas on public houses next door looked right into our room, no privacy.
Staff by far where lovely but food was too Mediterranean and all I enjoyed was the sweets. Snack bar was hit or miss with chefs not understanding our requests e.g. no butter or anything on rolls or bread.
Drinks were cut off exactly 10pm with only one drink allowed at a time. Several times barman tried to close before all inclusive time. The entertainment was non existent. We wanted entertainment but only on 2 nights a guy and his organ arrived bringing his elderly friends making the audience up to 6 including us 2. Don't know where everyone disappeared to at night as the dining room was fairly full. A group of 3 retirees said they went to a sister hotel for entertainment, maybe Santana.
The pool and the hotel was full of teenagers, at least 50,on a trip from England and other places to Maltese schools so Mediterranean no chance of getting in the pool and rooftop was the same with the children on all the sunbeds.
Person selling excursions sold us some that were useless. They were mostly walking and I can't walk, even though I did ask her to hire me a folding scooter or wheelchair. We spent two nights on a bus in the dark while others went off on long walks.
Love Malta and will go back but not there in the middle of nowhere
Terrible food no seriously the food was so bad like they’d serve cheap pasta every single day for lunch and dinner and the breakfast is not great either, the options were always the same and limited. The location is also terrible it’s like atleast 15 min walk to any of the beaches or pubs, and the hotel balcony views are horrible. The drink options in the all inclusive were severely limited. If you’re staying here it’s at your own risk
I’d like you to re-think your decision to come here!
This place was ment to be a family relaxation establishment, yet we all feel less enjoyable with the stay each minute. Food was not worth it. Why should you have to pay more, but the drinks aren’t all inclusive? Moreover it’s the same food each day. (Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner). Consisting of a mediocre beans, cold egg, chicken with bones, and chips. (And the chips was only once) this place is not for picky eaters or children rarely hot and goodluck on the toilet. In fact discussing the room is a whole other topic. The hotel room was fairly clean the balcony on the corner was a bummer no sunlight. The dust was a hand full. Bathroom. It was a sticky bathtub and not so comfortable to any tall people or anyone overweight, also the room had a disfunctional television and hairdryer that isn’t in the bathroom. We all had to have so much diners and lunches outside of the hotel which isn’t fair as we paid an all inclusively bundle. And vacuity there was no entertainment at night, The elevators merely and broke down quite frequently, steep steps. Games room is practically nonexistent and not sustainable in the slightest everything is broken in there. The Pool. Oh the pool was below minus Celsius, egregious, I mean how cold it was was embarrassing to say the least. Rarely anyone was even in it! (To be fair the inside pool was better definetly) No saftey because there was no Lifeguards honorable mention; The workers, from the front desk they was quite mean. The waitresses/waiteress, they were quite pushy and shoved their non-inclusive drinks into your face. But quite too quick at putting your food away -which was fine just a glimpse of an observation- The corner shop next to the front desk was tacky. There quotation is there the cheapest around the area. Which is inconsistent and fairly wrong, all it was, cheap faulty souvenirs, and the lady working there was slow and acted grouchy. Malta in generally was a beautiful country with lots do but the hotel generally wasn’t good enough…
There felt no positivity or sustainability in this hotel far enough. Another example of what I mean is the horrible menu. PLEASE the hotel still had stuff and the menu dates back to 2020. That’s why there is NO pizza or anything in that because the hotel is slouchy and a lazy fest. 5-6 YEARS they could have changed it. But no cause the lacking was crazy.
I hope to quintessential and hopefully reconsider no wonder why it was cheap enough.
Entertainment was good. Enjoyed the game room. Staff are friendly.
