Our lives were threatened
Pros:

We were not going to write a review but after what the hotel have done, this has to be said.

On the evening of the 13th of February, the student occupancy of the rooms around us were very very noisy. I called reception and complained and they sent security to ask the occupants to behave. They also told the occupants where the complaint came from. I had 2 men banging on our door. I answered and was met with threatening behaviour. This was totally unacceptable. We complained to the hotel but they seemed unsure what to do as was security. After returning home we complained to Loveholidays.com and they spoke to the hotel who have since lied and denied EVERYTHING.

LIFE THREATENING BEHAVIOR IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

Pros and cons of Bella Vista hotel
Pros:

Staff really considerate, especially Sandip at bar and cafe. Food ok. Beds a bit hard, pillows old and lumpy but you can ask for an extra duvet to use as a pillow. Breakfast over by 9am which was too early for my family. You can travel to anywhere on the island, by bus, £1.75 or 2 euros. Bus stop just outside hotel.

Ok for adults not really for kids
Pros:

But if a mixed one, start with the positives, all the staff are extremely polite and helpful, our room was basic but very clean, kettle and tea, coffee was a bonus. Our view was of a wall, although I had asked to be away from the building site, so can’t complain, but they don’t say on website or booking there’s rooms with view of just a very tall wall that’s about 6ft from balcony . When we arrived it was quite late and we were given sandwiches, fruit, crisps and water, which was nice. Tv has 3 uk channels- 2 film ones and challenge tv, enough for when we used it. Hotel areas were all very clean. Cafe bar had great snack menu which if all inclusive you can order from.
Pool was tiny and freezing, covered in shade by 1pm, indoor pool was also tiny and lighting was very dim, not like photos in website.
Food - was ok breakfast standard but no fresh fruit at all, lunch and dinner was ok if you were an adult but not very child friendly, 12 year old found it difficult to find something and she’s not really a picky eater, we had to have food delivered for her twice. There’s nothing really to do for kids a small games room with pool table and ping pong, and not really any entertainment, a singer a couple of times a week.
The things that brings it down a lot are the groups of kids from a language school that use it and other large groups such as a youth football team. Lots of doors banging and shouting late at night.
The bedroom doors have alarms on them which go off if door is open for more than 15 seconds - very annoying at night. The big one was the cannabis- it’s legal in Malta to be smoked by residents but quite a few hotel residents smoked it on their balcony and this resulted in having to shut windows.
Generally it’s not a bad hotel if you are adults wanting to explore Malta, there’s buses outside that take you to Valletta amongst other places.

Disturbing noise from construction and students – had to leave early
Pros:

I booked a 7-night stay at Bella Vista Hotel hoping for a relaxing holiday, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. During the day there were loud construction works and drilling nearby, and at night there was constant noise from groups of students. Because of this ongoing disturbance, it was very difficult to sleep or rest properly.

After four nights I decided to leave the hotel early even though my booking was longer. I informed the hotel about the situation and completed a guest questionnaire describing the room as “uninhabitable” due to the noise and disturbance.

Some staff members were polite, but the noise problem seriously affected the stay. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax or sleep well, you may want to carefully check recent reviews before booking.

Budget friendly
Pros:

The Bella Vista is a great base for travelling Malta, very basic but the price reflects this. Local buses are a very short walk and the bus station isn't far. The rooms are clean and tidy with a fridge, kettle and walk in shower. The towels are changed daily but some seem quite old, they were replaced when I mentioned this. The food is a "canteen" style and you are served behind perspex (this was difficult for older people to hear), this definitely put me off returning as I like to choose my own food and the amount I want. I couldn't even make my own toast! It was reasonable food but did lack fresh fruit (tinned fruit with chopped apple or orange added) was served every meal. I didn't use the pool or bar area and the lobby had a strange smell. The hotel is used by a youth club, college or something similar which makes it quite noisy and intimidating walking through the games area. There is a mini supermarket next door which stocks everything needed and Jeff's bakery on the same road for Maltese snacks or pizza.
I had a pleasant stay but I only had breakfast, dinner and slept in the room, I booked half board. I would recommend for backpackers or people who want a budget friendly way to see Malta. Read the reviews and make your own decision. (I believe this is not a 4*)

Our stay
Pros:

The hotel is very old and in our room we had a broken tile, the balcony all sticky, the cupboard door doesn’t close well, the gym is very old and almost nothing works and when we went to the pool there was a lot of noise of construction and it was unbearable we couldn’t even talk with the noise neither relax a little bit, after everything when coming to eat the food smells horrible and there is nothing to choose from everything is served by the waiters behind the station and not a lot of options just a few traditional maltese food that most of us maltese people cook at home and nothing smelled good and appetizing, even the lifts were stopping when in them. Its not the worst hotel but it definitely needs an upgrade.

Deeply Disappointing and Disturbing Stay
Pros:

I stayed at the Bella Vista Hotel from 2nd–9th February and unfortunately would not return.
The food quality was consistently poor. Soups appeared powdered, the eggs seemed reconstituted, and as a vegetarian there was very little choice, minimal variety, and very little fresh food.
Every morning at 7:30am the hotel reverberated with what sounded like heavy drilling or jackhammering, making rest impossible.
There were frequent disturbances from groups of young people congregating directly outside my room late at night and early in the morning. Doors were left open and repeatedly slammed. Despite raising this issue, my request to move rooms was refused for two days.
I was also trapped in a lift in complete darkness for approximately 10 minutes. When released, reception showed little concern and no warning notice was placed on the lift before it continued to be used.
Most concerning of all, at 5am on one night a person entered my room and physically shook my feet, insisting my flight was due — it was five days away. This was deeply distressing. When I reported the incident, the receptionist appeared uninterested and refused to acknowledge that it could have been a member of staff, which I found particularly troubling.
The hotel did appear clean, and the housekeeping manager was polite and willing to listen. However, this experience fell significantly below four-star standard and, in my view, does not meet the level it advertises.
I would not recommend staying here.

Stayed jan 2026
Pros:

I cannot fault this hotel. The room was spotless, being cleaned every day by a lovely lady. The room was comfortable with a big balcony. We were on the main road and once the door was closed the noise did not affect us at all.
All the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was fine, not amazing but there was always something we would eat.
The weather was dismal so didnt go in the pool but it looked nice.
All in all we would happily go back to this hotel.

Christmas and new year break
Pros:

The hotel staff where very friendly and helpful, food was excellent, plenty of choices, indoor pool was hot and a good jacuzzi, spent every day in both of them, stayed over Christmas and new year, was made to feel at home
The only thing missing was at dinner no water was on the table, maybe a jug of ice water or a water fountain would be a good idea.
The room was a decent size with hot water all the time. Bed was comfortable. The overall appearance of the hotel was spotless.

Do not go here!!
Pros:

The staff are amazing and the hotel is clean. The food is limited in choice and bland. The wine was so bad we ended up paying (although all- inclusive) just to have a decent drink! Our room was internal so there was no view, no light coming in. Our room always felt dark.
The outdoor pool was shaded by the building around it so again no sun.
The area has no shops or bars.
Probably the worst holiday I have ever been on.

Never again
Pros:

How this is listed as 4 star is beyond anyone’s imagination. I have stayed in better B&B’s ! If anyone is going all inclusive don’t, we just had the breakfast package and they stop at 9 !! Imagine being on holiday and having to rush for breakfast. Facilities are terrible and dated !

Poor
Pros:

There is no way on earth this a 4 star hotel we visited a friend here and was shocked how old and dated it was. It had a smell all throughout lower ground floor like insence sticks mixed with old food smell very unpleasant. Breakfast stops being served at 9am the time when most people get up and the dinner choice was limited and very low budget l would not call it a buffet. Minced meat, rice and potatoes poor

Shabby Chic , with the emphasis on the Shabby
Pros:

We had booked our holiday in Malta well in advance with the hotel being described as a traditional 4 star hotel. I'll start with the positives;

• It had a decent pool area with the higher level being quiet , we didn’t have to fight for sunbeds.
• Large restaurant area.
• Rooftop area with a plenty of sunbeds.
• Indoor pool and jacuzzi, also a gym and self service laundry.
• A hot 20 minute walk from St Paul’s bay.
• Next to a main road where plenty of public transport is located .
• Relatively clean and rooms were cleaned every day.

And now the negatives;

• We had booked the hotel well in advance , we got there to find our standard double was very small , a balcony where your lucky if one person could sit on it , no natural light coming into the room and no welcoming sachets of tea or coffee, we upgraded to a larger room with a balcony right away and informed them of our displeasure, the person on duty at the time wasn’t very helpful, it took a good few hours to get another room.
• The hotel was full of students on a learning exchange, all be it they were studying for most of the days or out , however from 10pm till 1pm on our corridor the excited 14-16 year olds ran up and down the corridor shouting etc and slamming doors , we put up with it for one night and contacted the team leaders , that worked for about a minute but the noise continued throughout the ten days we were there. If we had known the above we wouldn’t have booked the hotel.
• The rooms were clean but dated , loose tiles on the floor and dirty curtains.
• The food was buffet style , breakfast what you expect and it was ok . Dinner (half board) was limited and apart from a few things quite tasteless .
• We woke up to scaffolding being erected one morning and a workman popping his head up through our balcony whilst another sat on one of the balcony chairs drinking water , having a cigarette and playing on his phone. It would have been nice if staff had forewarned us , the work on the underside repairs remained for 5 days.
• Staff were nice in the best part , with Katrina being exceptionally helpful. Bar staff good but didn’t know how to make quite a few drinks .
• The hotel itself is I need of a good upgrade to make it a decent four star.
• If you have a room with a balcony onto the roadway be prepared for loads of traffic noise.
• The rooftop bar is never open, if you want something you need to get a lift 6 floors down to the bar or shop , rooftop jacuzzi needs fixed properly.
• The indoor pool and jacuzzi are decent but poorly lit , jacuzzi could be doing with an upgrade.

Overall we enjoyed our stay in Malta , the old town in Valletta is great , go to a festa and see the fireworks, Camino bay was ok , it's just a small beach with no real facilities, the blue lagoon was disappointing, burger vans etc perched on the top of the hill , no real place to sit and far too many boats in the lagoon at one time, for people with young kids you have to walk up and down on rocky paths. The bus services are decent and cheap, the Maltese people in general were really nice . St Paul's bay itself has had all the romanticism of Malta scrubbed away and it is all about the tourists , restaurants, bars and noises hotels.

The Bella Vista is a best a 3 star hotel , with a few upgrades it could hit 4 stars , it needs a little bit of TLC.

Pros:

Didnt like the fact that they didnt suppy water gym on 1 person in at a time, couldn't take towels to pool, no shampoo in bathroom, called down to fix the leaking water in toilet and no one came to fix it.
One light out in the room upon arrival and the fridge was leaking. There was also water on the floor had to put a towel down so my mum wouldn't fall.

Terrible.
Pros:

Bad, dirty, unskilled staff, they didn't understand and they didn't speak English and no other language. Very poor breakfast. The room was just making the bed, they never washed the floor, we had sand everywhere. The bath full of ants and several insects, air conditioning did not go at all despite the 39 degrees every day. Terrible
