I want to file a formal complaint and request a partial refund from Hotel Island - Spa & Wellness Center.

In October 2025 I reserved the Panorama Top Floor Balcony Suite - Free Spa (1 year in advance of my arrival). I actually called and confirmed the room I wanted. They only have one of these rooms and it’s room 701.

When I arrived and checked in, I was assigned room 706. After looking at the room, I confirmed that it was not the room that I had reserved. I went and talked to the on-site manager, and he told me that the room I wanted had been reserved 10 days earlier And the people checked in two days earlier prior to my arrival. When I complained to the manager, he lied to me and told me that I had booked a category of a room and not a specific room. The room I was actually assigned to is a cheaper room and not the room I actually paid for. Room 706 had a small balcony and picture windows, but it was not the room that I actually reserved and paid for.

I consider this to be a bait and switch tactic with apparently there is a common practice at this hotel.

Due to the inconvenience and the fact that I was lied to about the room and that I paid more than the room, I actually was assigned to. I want something between a partial refund to a total refund.

Great couple of nights and days in Rejkyavik
Pros:

The spa area downstairs with the baths was lovely. We often had the area to ourselves in the morning. Very warm and relaxing.

Cons:

Room was older and could use a reno. The rug in the hallway and stairs were torn and in need of repair.

Hotel in ruhiger Lage mit gutem Service und Frühstück
Pros:

Das Hotel Ísland in Reykjavík ist gut gelegen, die meisten Sehenswürdigkeiten sind gut zu Fuß erreichbar. An der Straße gibt's direkt gegenüber des Hotels ausreichend kostenlose Parkplätze.
Das Personal war sehr freundlich.
Unser Zimmer war ruhig und sauber. Die Betten waren sehr bequem.
An der Rezeption kann man morgens spontan ein Frühstück dazu buchen. Die Bezahlung funktionierte ohne Probleme. Das Frühstücks-Buffet war sehr vielfältig und reichhaltig. Es ist eher fast ein Brunch, da es außer Brot, Brötchen usw. auch warme Speisen (z.B. Suppen) gab. Auch für Vegetarier, Veganer und Allergiker gibt's hier ausreichend Angebote, z.B. frisches Obst und Gemüse, Fruchtsäfte; Bohnen-Suppe ohne Fleisch, ohne Milch und Laktose.
