The pool was the highlight of our stay! The weather was perfect, the music at the pool had me vibing and the drinks were perfect! We also enjoyed the steakhouse and cocktail bar, absolute perfection!
It's fun to stay in a different room each time. The grounds are lovely. The steak house had a really good ribeye. Room amenities are lux.
We could clearly hear the squeaky bed in the next room. Pool area was filled with young kids, which is to be expected. But both the hot tubs were filled with very lively kids having fun also. Maybe one of the hot tubs could be adults only
Here’s the real scoop on the Madonna Inn. If you want to feel like you’re in a flowery amusement park you’ll like it. and if you don’t mind people partying around you at all hours you’ll be able to sleep. and if you don’t mind furniture that looks like it’s been romantically played upon by literally thousands of people you might not get grossed out. The rock rooms have almost no Internet because they are made of rock. The people that work here are not friendly. They are not mean, but they are definitely not friendly. The attitude you get from them is something you might expect from a roadside tourist attraction being run by teenage employees. That’s the vibe. There are horses and large grass fields. It’s pretty and feels pretty safe though I saw one dude who looked like dole head come from the road and wander around. The pool and spa seems clean and looks great but the rooms do feel not dirty… murky. Decorated in a maximalist style that cannot be throughly cleaned. That said… I’ve stayed 4 times and will again. I don’t sit on the in room couches for cleanliness reasons, simply no way to keep those clean and they look really murky. Like filth ground into the fibers of the fabric over many many “uses”….
The dining room is a gem. Must be seen to be believed. Wander around, have fun… use hand sanitizer. It’s a must do for California kitch enthusiasts. Do not bring your ocd cleanliness obsessed friend here. It’s simply not clean enough.
I've heard about the Madonna Inn for years and it has intrigued me. My wife has visited before but not since she was a kid. We decided on the Highway Suite since it had a balcony and rock shower (and a fireplace, but we didn't use it). The room is on the second floor of the big main building.
The room itself was very unique. The rock fireplace was gorgeous. The furniture fit the theme well. The bathroom was nice and the rock shower was really cool. The balcony had a view of 101 and the event area (which had a circus tent).
The room definitely had some quirks. One side of the bed had a chair for a nightstand. The AC unit was shoved in a corner and didn't do a great job of cooling the room down. The bathroom had a window with no curtains so we had to keep the door closed to keep out the light at night. The plugs were few and far between. The stairs up to our room were a challenge with bags. The ceiling was thin and our upstairs neighbor seemed to be playing basketball all night.
We ate at the restaurant and grabbed a slice of cake to eat on the balcony, which was grand. We didn't check out the pool but did explore the secret garden. All the staff we interacted with were friendly.
It was worth the stay for the uniqueness and to say we did it. It serves as a good home base as we explored SLO, Pismo, and Solvang. Would we stay here again? Maybe, maybe not. We would definitely eat the restaurant again and try another slice of cake!
Everything
Everything was on property
A destination hotel that has to be experienced to be appreciated. Over the top decor creating an immersive experience. More a Disney ride than a hotel. Room very nice - great bathroom and shower. Bed comfortable. Breakfast was amazing. Cocktail bar was fun.
Again, as with all older properties it was creaky and noisy.
The grounds were beautiful, pool looked very inviting but did not go in. I loved all the color and everyone very nice and shops very nice. Room very clean but had musty smell.
I really like everything but do feel the rooms had a musty smell and you need to do something concerning this. The food and desserts very good. Everything a little pricey but that’s expected. The champagne cake is very light and delicious. We stayed in the Love Bird room and loved it.
A stylishly designed hotel, with a unique atmosphere in every room and in the common area.
Beautiful grounds
Beds could be better
Very unique decor and rooms!
The room we had on the ground floor was level with the parking lot, so keeping the curtains drawn at all times was necessary for privacy in our room (Rock Bottom)
Veramente particolare
Loved the property-- lively, upbeat, colorful. Had fun in the bar, restaurant, pool area. But our room--Anniversary Room-- was disappointing: it was like a fallen star, tired looking with stained upholstery, faded carpet, chipped woodwork, located behind the noisy ice machine in a dark corner. But we will return, and just be more savvy about room selection. I will also say that we were surprised at the number of children. I had always perceived it as an adult-oriented hotel, but It seemed most guests had 2-3 little ones in tow.
It's an experience staying here. Worth doing at least once.
One of a kind family owned hotel with the most beautiful pool and restaurants. The grounds are stunning and the rooms something you need to experience.
Everything!
