The Perfect Wedding Venue
Pros:

On Saturday December 26th 2020, our wedding reception took place in the Carrickdale Hotel & Spa. We would like express our sincere appreciation to the McParland family, Michelle Barrett (our wedding co-ordinator), and all of the staff of this fabulous hotel and wedding venue. We can’t even begin to imagine how difficult this past 12 months has been for the owners, management and staff of the Carrickdale, however not one portion of this hardship, financial or otherwise, was passed on to us at any stage. We originally booked the Lacey’s Suite for July 25th and Michelle had planned an amazing summer wedding for us. Due to the pandemic, we had to postpone and reschedule. Throughout our entire wedding process, Michelle was outstanding. From the very first phone call in March, Michelle endeavoured to ensure we had the Wedding Day that we always dreamed of. Despite the ever-changing guidelines, Michelle continuously worked closely with us to make all of the necessary re-arrangements. She was always there for us and genuinely cared. We cannot thank her enough.

We always wanted to get married in the Carrickdale, however our Wedding Day exceeded all of our expectations. From the picturesque gardens that we used for our photographs, to the spectacular décor and surroundings in the Bernish Suite for our reception, we and our guests were blown away. The service and meal provided was top class, as once again Michelle, and the staff, ensured that everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. It was a day we will never forget.

We would highly recommend the Carrickdale Hotel & Spa to any recently engaged couple who are planning a wedding. We certainly hope to be able to celebrate many more happy occasions here in the years ahead and look forward to returning to the hotel in the near future. Look no further for the perfect wedding venue!

Stay clear
Pros:

Booked a family room for mid term break for two nights.
Horrible experience.
Reception requested we paid full on checking in, this is before we seen room etc
The family room wasnt what was advertised on the webpage
It had a small double,& pop up camp bed and a L shaped mattress on a wooden block. Room very dirty, not hovered.
Bad service in bar for food, first family there and waited 45mins for our food.
Worst waster to come...
The noise at night was relentless
There was a banding noise in the walls,
First receptionist stated it was a ongoing problem with a old sensory light system, which banged everytime someone opened there door or was in the corridor of that floor
It got so bad I had to pack up my kids in the middle of the night and go home as the manager couldn't change us room as all family rooms was occupied, and said it's always like that???? No offer of other rooms
My kids were getting woke up time and time again both under the age of 5, I explained to the manager I would pack up and come down to get a refund in 5mins as he was no help and rude. When I returned he wasnt to be found, and the lady explained he was dealing with another issue

Bad service
Untrained staff
Dirty throughout
Unacceptable sleeping area / noise

I've emailed asking for emails address to complain to highter up management and was refused.
Also got no reply for my complaint to the hotel

I dont usually right reviews, but I wouldn't want any other family to be put in that noisey hell hole

Most underrated hotel in dundalk, excellent
Pros:

I have stayed in this hotel so many times and it never disappoints. The room was spotless, so comfortable. Staff always helpful. Beautiful peaceful location but still super close to town. Its so cheap compared to alot of hotels in the area and its of equal standard. I will continue to stay here in the future.

Lovely stay
Pros:

Lovely room, staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Sauna/pool/jacuzzi were all excellent and there was plenty of space
Had a very worthwhile spa treatment.
Dinner was very reasonably priced and tasty. Great breakfast too.
Good little bar, not much atmosphere or comfy seating but it did the trick.
Not too far from town centre - 10-12 taxi each way.
We went for our wedding anniversary and there was a welcoming plate of sweet treats and a lovely welcoming message on arrival in our room, which was a very nice touch.

Carnbeg 4* hotel
Pros:

Hi, I stayed in the carnbeg hotel for my Birthday(9/2/2020-11/2/2020) weekend with my partner. Her and I thought it would be a great place to stay until we got there. The person who was working at reception appeared completely disinterested in talking to us. We the when to our "4 star suite" only to find it was dirty no remote control for the television, pubic hair in both the shower and bath and a bed that the mattress had seen better days. Wooden panels screwed on to the base of the bed to stop the mattress falling through it. Dead flys and veranda door that wouldn't shut properly To date I have had no response from the manager of the establishment regarding our complaint with them. Poor if not shocking Hotel 4* it is definitely not!

Poor service
Pros:

Booked the Pamper Me and Afternoon Tea package with the hotel.
From ringing the hotel to try and book was issue after issue. First it was booked, when I rang back about a simple enquire, I was transferred to several departments and then told I never had a booking. This review got these good stars due to the great help of Linda who finally got everything sorted.
The day of the spa and tea, the spa had no robes or slippers for us on arrival. During our treatments, we hear kids screaming and running outside the rooms which was less than relaxing. As for the afternoon tea, we had regular food and a gluten free option. Our regular food came a half hour late and only for I went up and asked where the gluten free one was, they forgot and that wasnt at our table till 45 minutes after our booking.
Such a shame after it was something we were all looking forward to. Will not return.

Birthday treat for my aunt
Pros:

Booked into the Carnbeg Hotel in Dundalk on Mon 10/02/2020. We were delighted with our 1st impression of the hotel. We were put on the 4th floor but the wind was really bad and asked to be moved to a lower floor. The staff were brilliant. They arrived to take all our clothes etc., To the new room. We had a fantastic time. The staff in every aspect of the hotel were brilliant. I couldn't praise this hotel highly enough. I will definitely be back. Value for money just blew us away. €128 for 2 people for 2 days B&B. Fantastic. The bar staff were just couldn't help us enough. My aunt is a picky eater and doesn't eat a lot but the staff offered her that she could have a children's meal every time. I would give this hotel 5 stars on their hospitality to visitors and they bent backwards to accommodate us. A brilliant hotel that I can't wait to go back to. Oh by the way we had 2 back, shoulders and neck massages that were brilliant. The jacuzzi was down due to maintenance but the staff held back on maintenance to let my aunt use the jacuzzi. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Thanks to the CARNBEG HOTEL for a lovely getaway. We will definitely be back very soon.

A bit out of the way but worthwhile
Pros:

This is a modern hotel on the outskirts of Dundalk. My second and most recent stay here has been this week.
This is a very comfortsble hotel. Very good breakfast on offer as well as competatively priced.
Lovely view of Dundalk bay from some of the upper rooms.
Staff very helpful and pleasant.
Warning. Some rooms have communication doors to adjoining rooms. If you get a noisey neighbour, your stay may end up being more than unsatisfactory.

If you want value for money
Pros:

This is a fine hotel which serves good tasty food. I found the bedrooms great to work in lots of space for laptop and paperwork also very comfortable and clean. My only issue with this hotel is how cold the bar/ dining area is in the evening. It is far from the town centre so there is no alternative option to walk to another bar/restaurant. Otherwise this hotel is great value for what you get.

Nice hotel
Pros:

The hotel is in a rural location but close to Dundalk. The reception staff were very friendly. We booked three rooms, two were really nice. Mine was good but small with a single bed. The bathroom was quite small.
We had lovely afternoon tea booked and later enjoyed a good dinner. It was Saturday night so there was music which was good. The breakfast was fine but there wasn't a huge selection of items.

In need of a lot of work
Pros:

Stayed for 2 nights with my partner as needed a break after a hectic January.

Hotel is very basic and in real need of an upgrade and refurb!

Check in was fine and no issues there, we stayed in room 404 and the bed has to be one of the worst I’ve stayed in anywhere!

I’m not a fussy person and have stayed in lot of backpacker hostels while travelling around Asia but the mattress in the Carnbeg was bad! You could feel the springs and the noise it made every time you moved too.

I’ve gave 3 stars as we had spa treatments while here and this is definitely the best part about the hotel along with the pool and sauna.

It was very quiet while we stayed here and we were the only people in the bar 1 night, about 10 mins drive from Dundalk town and we didn’t have dinner at the hotel although prices seemed high hence we drove into town.

This hotel could be a lot better if it gets the love and attention the rooms really need, it’s more like a hotel for business people who are stopping for 1 night.

Last comment on the breakfast, why don’t they offer soda and potato bread with their fry, it’s the best thing about an Irish breakfast.

Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Great family break
Pros:

We had an overnight stay for our whole family - 26 of us in total including 9 small children. The staff were really friendly, helpful and patient. We had a great meal and the evening entertainment was good craic. The swimming pool was a nice warm temperature and the spa was excellent. Only thing was that the bedrooms were a bit cold but this did not deter from our sta.
