Location. The river. The sheets were clean and crisp.
Very, very run down and dirty. Holes in the ceiling, lukewarm water. In serious need of a very deep cleaning.
Nothing! The worst experience of my life!
We had planned to spend four days at this hotel and paid in advance a month before our stay. When we arrived, on the first night they put us on the 4th floor in a large room that was unbelievably cold. The bathroom was very small, also freezing, and smelled awful! We didn’t even dare to undress and change because it was so cold. They said they would turn the heating on after 8 p.m. We waited and hoped it would get warmer, but the radiator was too small for the size of the room and couldn’t heat it properly. We literally slept with hats on our heads! They brought us an extra blanket, and later in the middle of the night they brought an electric heater, but that didn’t help either. We were practically glued to the heater. It was an awful feeling. We didn’t sleep at all and were literally crying from the cold.
At breakfast, we had another unpleasant surprise: there was almost nothing to eat. I only had a yogurt with cereal because there was simply nothing else. After insisting, they brought a few slices of cheese, but there was no bread. Then they brought some slices of pizza that were hard as stone.
We told them we wanted to leave because the conditions were terrible, but they refused to refund our money and instead offered to move us to the 1st floor, saying it would be warmer there. We accepted because we didn’t want to lose the money, especially since it was New Year’s period and quite expensive.
The new room was tiny, smelled very bad, and had mold. The heating was from the air conditioning unit. It wasn’t as freezing as the first room, but it certainly wasn’t warm either. Ironically, the bathroom there was very large, but the radiator had only three elements, so it was terribly cold in the bathroom as well.
Breakfast on the second day was exactly the same—just as bad. We told them we couldn’t stand staying two more nights in those conditions and asked for a refund for the remaining nights we wouldn’t be staying there, but they refused.
I liked it's location and it's antique style
Uncomfortable bed, TV channels didn't work and the toilet often didn't flush properly.
Location and staff
We have stayed a few times at the Royal Victoria and always enjoyed its history., quirkiness and museum like decor and furnishings . It is good value for money in a lovely location and is a far cry from bland international hotels.
Unfortunately this time our room seemed shabby and rather dirty. I must stress this was not our usual experience. And because it was a river side room ( lovely views of course) it was very noisy as lots of young people were outside enjoying a late night without rain!! Fair enough but the worst thing was the street cleaning lorry ( the loudest in Europe) that woke us up at 4.45 and continued to grind its way around the area for the next half hour . So… can I recommend you all book a quiet room at the back or take decent ear plugs.
Podsumowanie:
Fantastic old hotel with a lot of history only a short walk to the leaning tower of Pisa. Good breakfast with plenty to choose from.
Bed was very hard so I didn’t sleep well but this seems fairly typical for Italy. Hotel parking area is very small and tight, I found damage on my car after leaving and I believe it happened there.
