One night x 2
Pros:

We stayed overnight on our way to Tilos, very nice clean hotel, great bar atmosphere with friendly helpful staff. The owner Glyness such a kind, helpful English owner couldn’t do enough to support her guests.

Good selection of breakfast, & snacks, drinks with the best Aperol Spritzer I have ever had.

Amazing family ran hotel, close to the beach
Pros:

An absolutely stunning hotel ran by a truly great family.
When you visit, you will be very well looked after, entertained and welcome. They are a lovely family who will always be happy to help you.
You will feel well rested after visiting Iris Hotel and no doubt you will want to visit again.

Thanks to everyone at Iris, we made some friends for life and left feeling very happy. We have already booked for next year and we can't wait!

Mediocre
Pros:

Stayed August 2017.
It's too far from everywhere although a good bus service.
We arrived very late and although food had finished they cooked a pizza for us at a small price.
Food was good and it's nice to be a family run business.
The older lady minding the pool side was like a sergeant and scowled at us all the time, the children were scared of her.
The manager was every so friendly.
No entertainment but not a big deal as made our own.
Shame you need to pay for air con, maybe should be included for all inclusive holiday and pay the suppliment if you're not.
The apartments are run down.
A small amount of improvement could make this place a lot more attractive to people but it's a no from us for a return.

Ok
Pros:

Stayed August 2017
The hotel was clean and tidy
It's a little difficult to get about because of distance
The buses were OK to use but had to get a cab few times which was costly
We did enjoy the food and drinks being all inclusive
We had to pay extra for air conditioning but we're very helpful in retrieving our passports which I misplaced
We had a big issue with the bites that got all of us
The hotel was family run which was good but just lacked entertainment
And would be a no for a return from us

Poor
Pros:

Very poor standard of cleaning they don’t change towels needed to ask them twice
Cleaners instead of paying more attention to cleaning there are setting in the rooms and gossiping !
Breakfast every day the same selection no vegetables at all ,after few days you just get sick even looking to it !
Internet 5€ per day ! No hair dryer , no air con In the room need to pay for it ! Could not sleep night
Very poor quality of bed mattress
The good think is beautiful view and good restaurants near by where you can eat great Greek traditional meals
Recommend Hidden Garden restaurant 10 min walk from hotel

Brilliant Value for Money
Pros:

Where do I even start! Myself and my partner moved hotel on the first day of our holiday and when we arrived at Iris late in the evening, the owner (George I think his name is) was very helpful and took his time getting to know us, which made us feel comfortable straight away.

The rooms are well kept and spacious, and the pool area is lovely, just the right size and always clean with enough sunbeds for everyone. We only booked for breakfast and the selection of food was okay, nothing special. Location wise it is perfect for travelling to all parts of Rhodes, there are bus stops right outside the hotel.

The highlight for us was definitely the customer service from everyone working there, always made us feel welcome and took their time with our needs. George met us every time by our first names which was a nice touch :)

Overall cannot complain at all with this hotel, excellent value for money and would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to stay here.

Excellent value - everything we wanted from a family sunshine holiday
Pros:

We stayed at the Iris (so named because the Hotel is covered in Iris flowers) in Afantou, Rhodes for 2 weeks in August 2019 with our children aged 6 & 12. I used Trip Advisor to help make the decision which is why I've decided to leave this review.

Note - be careful that the reviews you are reading apply to the actual place you're looking at - I found a number of reviews which seemed to be about The Iris but were actually for a place in Kos (not Rhodes).

First things first - we booked with Onthebeach.com - it was less than £2500 for the 4 of us including flights from Leeds/Bradford airport. With fears over the exchange rate I was quite budget conscious and also made sure to book half board so nearly all our food was included. Onthebeach offered airport/Hotel transfers for £125 but I took a taxi from the airport and it had a fixed price of €37. Return was a bit more at €42 so a good saving compared with £125.

I've emphasised the budget aspects so far - we tend to explore quite a lot on holiday and in 2017 & 18 visited South Africa, Finland, Malta and the North of Scotland. We don't accept low standards but understand that you get what you pay for. What we wanted on this occasion was 2 weeks of sunshine and we barely saw a cloud the whole time we were in Rhodes.

Air Conditioning was extra (€60/week). In the first room the air conditioning unit failed straight away so we were moved to another room where the A/C worked perfectly for the whole holiday. A/C is essential in my view so you should budget to pay the extra. I can understand why it is chargeable as Brits tend to leave it on all the time and it will obviously consume quite a lot of electricity - we tried to remember to turn it off when we left the room in the day but kept it on at night. The room itself had a double bed and a pair of bunks as well as a shower room and working fridge. As described in other reviews it was fairly basic but I didn't go on holiday to spend my time in the bedroom and i always slept ok.

The pool was great, clean and a decent size - you could always get a sunbed and there is a play area for younger kids. There is a selection of inflatables available which everybody shares.

Food in the form of breakfast and evening meal buffets was absolutely fine - all edible, fresh fruit & vegetables available and pretty much as you'd expect on holiday. Snacks & pizzas were available at lunchtime also. Dining was all al fresco at the edge of the pool.

The bar was well stocked - highlights were pints of local lager served in a frozen glass (€3) and half litre carafes of dry white wine from Rhodes at €5. Spirits were a bit more pricey with cocktails or vodka/orange etc at €7.

Staff were very friendly including Dmitri behind the bar and George the owner and his wife who were very helpful and generous.

We hired a car on a couple of occasions - this was €55/day when booked at reception. Although we booked a FIAT Panda we were given an older FIAT Punto which was absolutely fine. We travelled one day around the south of the island including the historic city of Lindos which is a must see. We finished off on the West of the island and watched the sunset. The other day we hired a car we went to the north of the island and visited Rhodes town which was also a great way to spend half the day. We then visited Kalimbia beach (a little to the South of Afantou) which is really picturesque and has a couple of good restaurants. This can also be reached by bus or by taxi (which we used on another day - but return worked out at around €30 so not much less than hiring a car).

Another day we took the cruise to Turkey which meant an early start (with Taxi pick-up from the Hotel) and I was able to watch the sunrise (something I very rarely do). This cruise was a bit hurried as the journey was 3 hours each way and we only had 3 hours actually in Turkey (Fethiye). A lot of people had only really gone for the cheap shopping so it was ok for them. We visited ancient tombs and an abandoned Greek village and also crammed in lunch (which was very good). On the way back we could see flying fish and we were told that other people had also seen Dolphins.

We ate out a good few times on Rhodes as well - my youngest son is a sea food fanatic and very much enjoyed roasted octopus, prawns/shrimps and fish. There is a very good sea food restaurant called 'Shark' on the beach about a mile from the Hotel.

The village of Afantou is quite close to the Hotel (10 minutes walk) and has a range of useful shops, a Post Office, bars & restaurants. There is a bar showing Sky Sports. The Skyline bar is also highly recommended with lovely food and great views.

Lastly the beach at Afantou is very long and very nice, it's 20-30 minutes walk and the sun was very hot but you can have a dip when you get there and there's also a beach bar. The sea does shelve away quite sharply so I wasn't overly keen on spending time there with my youngest who has only recently learned to swim. However - he spent so much time in the pool that he came back a much better swimmer than he went. There is a Supermarket half way between the Hotel and the beach.

Overall - if you want a sunny holiday as we did this is perfectly adequate in every way and George in particular made us feel very welcome. If you want a 'resort' type holiday with entertainment, karaoke, aqua-robics etc there are plenty in the Kalimbia beach area but you will easily end up spending 3 times as much - for me it wouldn't be worth it. We would quite happily stay at The Iris again if we decide sunshine is our priority.

Highly recommended
Pros:

I can't recommend enough this hotel!
The rooms are lovely (the balcony with the sea view is a great bonus), the staff is very professional as well as the owner who helped us rent a scooter and gave us advice on how to move around and where to go.
The hotel can be easily reached with public transport (there is a bus station right in front of it) and given its very convenient position you can easily reach both Rodos and Lindos as well as many great beaches. Overall we had a great experience and we would definitely return.

Fantastic budget hotel
Pros:

Only 4 weeks to go until we go back to the Iris in sunny Rhodes! We've been coming here every year for the last 20 years now and the owners and staff are just like family to us. George and Isobel run a fantastic hotel where nothing is a problem. The rooms are clean and spacious with great views out to sea, the gardens are lovely, and there's a fantastic swimming pool. We usually do B&B and there's plenty to choose from for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, it's only a 10 minute walk into the village where there are plenty of restaurants and bars. Can't wait to be back soon - yamas!

Excellent budget hotel
Pros:

We booked to stay B and B at Iris for 10 days. We paid the money for the air con as it was too hot to sleep without.
The room is perfectly adequate- clean, sheets and towels were changed and bathroom was clean. Storage was a squeeze but I’m not on holiday for wardrobes!
The pool is fabulous- no sun bed wars! No terrible evening entertainment, just lots of quiet and relaxation. Breakfast was very repetitive but ok. The hot choices were very unappealing so I avoided ! Bar prices were reasonable. Afandou village has some lovely restaurants and we sampled many.
We loved the beach h- deserted and water was crystal clear. BeAch shoes needed. Easy to get around. Island has lots to offer.
Perfect budget hotel- it was spotless and area is perfect if you want a quiet, really Greek break.

Always Wonderful
Pros:

Well, we have just returned from our sixth consecutive stay at the Hotel Iris, which probably gives you a good idea of how much we enjoy our time here, The hotel Iris offers so much for such a great price, the hotel is run by a lovely Greek family and there loyal staff, they all work tirelessly to maintain every area to make it such a clean and smart environment, they take pride in every aspect of customer care and happiness and this really shows, we stay bed and breakfast, and occasionally have lunch too, there is a great choice of well presented food available, the pool is really lovely, with a kids area too, there are always plenty of sun loungers, the hotel is at the top of a hill which means fantastic sea views and welcoming breeze, the beach is a 20 minute downhill walk away, Afandou village a 10 minute downhill walk away, a bus stop just outside the hotel too, air conditioning and wifi are available for an additional charge, this seems to upset some, but not us at all, if you appreciate a well run well maintained cleaner than clean hotel with wonderful staff in a great location then you will not be disappointed, we have very high standards in these areas and are very satisfied, thanks for such a great stay, see you next year

Could not ask more for 3 stars
Pros:

We spent a lovely week at Iris in the middle of September 2018 with my family (a 5 year old and a 3 year old kid).
We arrived around 20 o`clock at the hotel, after we missed 2 times the entrance (I would advise a bigger indicator board with lights). The dinner time it was almost on the end, but the staff was very friendly, they helped us to serve fast our meal.
We had a family room with two single beds put together and a bunk bed. It was basic, but well maintained, spotless clean (the ladies made every day clean). The highlight of the room was definitely the terrace with a great sea view.
Iris hotel is a small, family friendly hotel with lot of nice bougainvillea flowers almost everywhere (totally 50 rooms, and all have sea view). Staff was very friendly, we got a lot of information about the island, where to go, what to see.
The poolside was nice, my kids really liked it. We could find also a children corner too.
We booked all inclusive and it was a good choose for us. The food was not 5*, but You could always choose from 7-8 menus. What I really liked, that they had every time about 5 kinds of salad, and plenty fruits too. The main dishes were mostly traditional greek dishes, but mostly we found them tasty.
As negative point I can say that You have to pay in plus for all the extras. The strangest was to pay for WiFi.
The hotel has a good location, almost half way between Rhodes Town and Lindos. But to explore the island, definitely You need a car for it.
Afandou beach is not the best, I highly recommend Tsambika beach, a long sandy beach, perfect for small children too.
In general we had a great value for our money. Its a great little 3* hotel, we could not ask more. Basic, but clean, nice hotel with friendly staff, and with greek food. If You like to have more, choose a 4-5 star hotel and pay the price for it.

Very Poor
Pros:

The Iris hotel is ,a very basic hotel we went on our honeymoon nothing like the pictures , was clean, food was awful and the owner was very rude , it should be made clear that you have to pay for air conditioning, the hill is not mentioned to get up to the hotel, not good for disabled., it totally ruined our honeymoon,

Very Poor - dont go
Pros:

Amazed at the high level of the reviews for this Hotel, it was shocking.
Rooms
Very Very basic, tatty and out dated, you have to pay extra for air con, as the manager told me you wont be able to go without !!
Food
Again basic, it was okay at best
Pool area
Pool was by far the best part of the holiday, no play ground for kids, sunbeds very saggy
Location
Literally in the middle of know where, small village out back of hotel within 10 minute walk on steep hill, pebble beach 20 minute walk, nothing at beach, dual carriage way in front of hotel.
All Inclusive
Only gassy local beer and horrendous tasting wine and that was stopped at 10:30, limited snacks, ice for kids for 30 mins
Take it from us, don't go.

Holiday
Pros:

Hotel and staff friendly and helpful a pleasant stay all round! The manager is health and safety conscious and looks out for all visitors well being, a genuine guy making sure all guests enjoy their stay with minimal accident injury and basically avoiding anything that may spoil your holiday! Not all guests appreciate this however I do! Nobody wants a bar puddled with pool water....
this hotel is quite elevated and drop offs seem to be at the bottom of the 1:4 incline driveway so it’s a fair uphill struggle with your luggage.. (private taxi for transfers highly recommended) take some good footwear for walking into town of an evening! We stayed bed and breakfast and if you’re wanting a total relaxing holiday without venturing too far then opt for the all inclusive the meals looked fine and varied there was always a good choice at each meal time! The cleanliness is of a high standard and cleaning staff are always hard at work with the rooms.
The pool area is also clean and there are no sun lounger wars early morning, and we found selecting ours for the day at breakfast time perfect and so less hassle compared with other places we have stayed! Generally a totally relaxation holiday and peaceful when small children were taken out for the day 😉
Car hire is available from reception and if you’re more of a sightseeing traveller this hotel is a good base with a car park and worth your visit!
Some did complain about the level of all inclusive, however the price of all inclusive is reasonable for what you get, we have stayed in other all inclusive hotels where everything and anything was included but the price did reflect that service!
A quick route into town is out the back of the hotel the opening can be seen from the pool steps and stairs up to rooms just follow the road bearing right and down hill.
Overall a pleasant stay

Great place to do nothing
Pros:

This hotel is very basic in every way. First shock upon arrival was when the transfer bus dropped us off at the roadside with a long walk up a steep path to the reception. Elderly folks would be better travelling from the airport by taxi as they drive up to the door.
Meal times are scant in the afternoon so if you arrive between 1:30pm and 7pm you will need to pop into the cash&carry nearby for some snacks as nothing is offered.
Our room was tidy but could have been cleaner. The sink and shower in the wetroom took ages to drain and by the end of our stay were blocked. Plenty of piping hot water on hand any time of the day so showers always refreshing.
Aircon is €10 a day which I was not prepared to pay, and I have 50+ mosquito bites to remind me of my thrift. Even at the tail end of the season the temperature was 30 during the day dropping to 24 at night so be prepared for the additional expense if you want to get any sleep.
The most disappointing element of our stay was the food and drink which are way below expectation compared to any other all inclusive package we had, even in other parts of Greece. The only drinks included are beer, wine and sodas, coffee and tea, and a water dispenser. There are NO spirits in the deal, although the bar is well stocked should you wish to pay up. The wine was awful but made for a delicious spritzer when combined with the lemon and lime soda.
Food was a case of try your luck. Nothing was labelled so a possible allergy disaster zone. Very repetitive selection yet generally something for everyone. I didn't go hungry and you can't go wrong with chips, apart from breakfast when even they are served cold. As already mentioned, there is NO FOOD between 13:30 and 19:00 so this is a great time to go down the hill to the nearby village for some local fare, or pop into the C&C for supplies.
The pourpose of this particular holiday was to relax and do nothing and this hotel provided the perfect means to this aim. Apart from a couple of walks to the beach after breakfast which takes 20 minutes, the rest of the time we managed to enjoy the sweltering heat in the shelter from the breeze at the spotlessly clean pool area despite all the smokers, and the pool itself was also pristine.

Throughout the length of our 7 night stay we noticed that one particular staff member seemed to be on duty the entire time, day and night, and always with a bright smile and a cheeky wink. I questioned this girl about her apparent superhuman stamina and it came to light that she had worked the entire season from early May without a day off, just the odd hour here and there. I was much more impressed with how delightful she was once I learned how extremely hard she worked, and so I would like to thank Anastasia for all her efforts (PM me)

In summary, you get what you pay for with everything in life. Based on this trip, we will be moving our budget up a few points for all subsequent holidays.

Not our cup of tea
Pros:

Where do I begin... Like everyone else not happy paying 60 euros for air con but defo needed it . Lovely view of the sea from our balcony (2nd floor). But room dusty, cobwebs under air con and near floor next to fridge. Only get a towel change once during a weekly stay but I take my own so n big deal until maid takes one of mine from home. They couldn't find it so gave me a brand new one of theirs. Food... Never hot but there was a microwave to warm your food up?? Never known that in a hotel, should be hot enough. Never saw a snack at all, ice cream for under 12s for half an hour during each day, well why can't adults have ice cream! Drinks...rubbish fizzy pop, lager was actually ok but no local spirits like you'd get in a normal AI. Breakfast same every day apart from night befores cake cut up in to pieces. Also one desert only at night with a fruit . The drive up to the hotel was very steep, luckily our taxi took us up but lots dropped off at the bottom and it was a killer getting up the drive.didnt get easier as the week went on! Good walk to the pebbly beach, took about 25 minutes.walk of about 10 minutes to afandou which was a small village with lovely bars and shops. Bus stop at the bottom of the drive to everywhere, we went to lindos, Rhodes town and falaraki by bus. The swimming pool area and drinks area were lovely but smoking annoying while eating.nthink hat should only be allowed round at the front if the hotel , not while others are eating. We wouldn't stay here again , there wasn't enough for us to do.
