Unique setting, perfectly located to discover Sassi
Very little, was all good.
Perfect. The best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Rooms amazing, staff polite and professional, view from room stunning. Great food and wine. Can’t recommend highly enough.

The property was in a spectacular location.
Our room got a bit hot and the room was billed with a ‘patio’ which made it sound like a private patio not a shared one round the corner.

The location is excellent, right in the heart of Matera and perfect for exploring the city. The staff is outstanding—very attentive, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed.
The breakfast was delicious, with a great variety of fresh and high-quality products. The view is simply breathtaking and makes the experience even more special.
Everything was spotless and very well maintained. We stayed in Room 44, and it was absolutely beautiful—spacious, comfortable, and full of charm.
I highly recommend Sant'Angelo Matera and would definitely stay here again!
We wanted to stay in a Cave room. It was a great room, but it also got very hot. The bathroom too was hot and stuffy. The staff did respond to our request for a fan. I think perhaps a fan in the bathroom would be an improvement. We had great dinner on the terrace in the restaurant. Our waiter Antonio was terrific at his job, welcoming, suggested dishes and lots of fun. Thank you
The breakfast was a bit underwhelming and at times chaotic.
A slightly high price for a room with a view that wasn't as panoramic as described (the room was a little set back).
Not to mention the ongoing construction (our visit in may 2026) on the church opposite (not Sant'Angello's fault) : A crane spoils part of the magic view, and the construction work generates noise and smokes.
But also :
- The drilling work near the restaurant during breakfast time;
- A bathroom with lingering odors the first day and a wobbly shower tray;
- We had to go inside to claim for a coffee on the terrace for breakfast, otherwise no one offers.
These are minor details, admittedly, but ones that would warrant higher standards for a night costing nearly €600.
On the other hand, the room was very spacious, pleasantly decorated, in a sober and moderne style including a very large alcove bed.

I went to Matera not knowing what to expect. What I took away, will forever stay with me.
The atmosphere has an unabridged spirit and connection to a far distant yet current day. The hotel was remarkable and the staff, always prepared to assist in making a memorable visit for their patrons. The room that I stayed in, built from the cave dwellings, was gorgeous.
I will return there. The people are true treasure. Kind, attentive, aware and appreciative of their home and history, I found my time there a special journey. I recommend anyone to stay and experience the area for their own renewal and growth.
We had a wonderful stay at Sant Angelo in Matera! True luxury in a unique cave hotel. Martina, Flavia, Nicole, and Umberto were wonderful hosts! They were very accommodating and welcoming, answering all of our questions with patience and care. The breakfast was excellent as well. We loved our stay and would highly recommend to others.

The staff, the ability to txt front desk and have every question answered instantly and professionally, my room was gorgeous! Staff were extremely welcoming! They pay close attention to detail.
