Pros:

Апартаменты. Чисто. Жесткие матрасы, это хорошо для меня. На кухне все есть. Все работает. Можно под окном поставить машину. Покупать завтраки лучше в отеле, на месте, дешевле.

Cons:

Gutes Appartement zu einem fairen Preis
Pros:

A great base
Pros:

Our third trip to Mellieha but first at Luna.
We were previously notified of work being carried out to removate the hotel lobby, this was no issue at all. We were also not affected by the roadworks to the front of the hotel (our room was at the rear).
The location is a great base, there's enough convenience shops & restaurants without the need to walk up the hill if you don't fancy it.

We didn't make use of the hotel facilities, but the staff were all lovely. We weren't able to access the Sky Lounge which I assume is due to the time of year. This area was a big upsell for me as somewhere to sit & read with a view, so this was a disappointment & EasyJet did not inform us of this when booking.

The rooms although basic are well equipped for SC. The bed & sofa were very uncomfortable, if you like a hard mattress you won't have an issue. The stove top in both rooms periodically turned itself on & off day & night in both rooms with a frustrating beep.

The highlight for me was the recycling facilities in the rooms, fantastic to see & more hotels should follow suit 🙂

Lovely staff
Pros:

We came out of season and the hotel is undergoing refurbishment. The reception is closed, painting going on everywhere and areas with signs saying do not enter along with room signs that were out of date. But the staff did their best to keep everything going.
We checked in at midnight and it was not too much trouble and we were greeted warmly.
The Self Catering Room had a shower room, then a bedroom/kitchen/living space combined and a small balcony.
The bathroom is in need of an update as there was plaster missing from around the door frame and the water in the shower is very slow to change temperature - although it was a decent size. Nowhere to put your stuff so it needs a shelf.
The kitchen has a 2 ring induction hob, with extractor. The hob was fine but the extractor didn’t really work so had to have the door open as none of the pans had lids and steam went everywhere. Also the fridge did not cool things despite adjusting the settings so needs replacing. There was a mini oven/microwave with no instructions. Everything is for 3 people as the sofa can become an extra bed.
The beds were at the point of just needing replacing as I could feel the springs, but slept well. There is a free safe in the wardrobe and only 1 extra pillow.
The balcony is small and holds 2 chairs.
You can hear your neighbours, so if you are a light sleeper I would not recommend.
Note there are no washing machines in the apartments, but reception will arrange an external company to wash your clothes for you
The outside pool was closed in February naturally, but do go up there as the views are amazing! We could see a closed bar and sunbeds all ready for use in the summer as well.
There is an indoor heated pool. But it is small - just 1.1 metre deep, a sectioned off area for babies and an internal push the button type jacuzzi. The terrace was closed but had big glass doors that open in the summer. Unfortunately the bottom of these were covered in a thick green mould.
There is a mini reception in a side door and a corridor turned into a lobby were people sit for drinks and entertainment. I was impressed they still do this out of season.
We had one meal there a gluten free pizza and a ham and mozzarella salad with 2 diet cokes and it came to E37 which is expensive but average for this area. The salad was great but the pizza was awful, the base tasted like burnt cake. Also, there was a birthday party going on and children were running around wildly. But the staff told them off and eventually sectioned off that area of the restaurant to keep them away from diners which was good to see such a proactive approach.
The bar sells cans of Stowford and cans of Hedgehog as the dry cider offering (there were sweet ciders too).
There is a gym on the lower ground floor that you need to sign in/out for. And also a really good well stocked supermarket underneath the building that sold everything from postcards to bigilla.
The hotel is at the bottom of a big hill and the village is at the top, so if you have mobility issues then this isn’t the place for you. However, at the bottom of the street is the sea with a little museum, and a (very expensive) bar, restaurant, shop and gelateria.
The staff though are all so sweet and polite, nothing is too much trouble for them which was lovely.
Would I come here again? I suppose if it were super cheap or when the refurbishment is finished, then sure.

Not recommended during refurbishment
Pros:

This is the second time we stayed at the Luna. The first time we loved it and promised ourselves a return visit. The bar area was spacious, the reception area was huge and the service from all staff was amazing. A great peaceful holiday.
Sadly on our return visit we found the hotel going through a refurbishment - workmen on site most of the day, the restaurant doubling up as a staff canteen, private birthday party and the temporary reception area is small, meaning if more than 4 people were waiting for service it was chaos.

Outside the hotel - which was nothing to do with the hotel - the road was being dug up. This meant the road was completely blocked off to traffic. It was only a 10min walk to get a bus but transfers couldn’t pick up at the location. We were told by the hotel receptionist a shuttle bus is in use from 5pm. Pulling luggage through grit, mud and holes is not an easy task. The workmen began working early morning so the noise from outside and the hotel put a bit of a dampener on our stay. We only used the hotel to sleep in.

This hotel will be lovely when it’s complete but I wouldn’t recommend a stay while workmen are on site

Excellent 3 week winter break
Pros:

Hotel is only rated 3 star but is higher from my experience. The hotel facilities are very good and staff are excellent. Big shout out to Sinead who went the extra mile for everyone, always smiling and providing great ideas for places to visit. Hotel is having some refurbishment but we were rarely disturbed. Housekeeping kept the hotel spotless at all times. Food was always warm and we were upgraded to an executive studio which had great facilities and a lovely view. Bar facilities and staff again excellent, Julie from reception moved our room as there was an issue with no hassle at all. Hotel can’t be blamed for the current roadworks which were a nightmare to be honest but after 3 weeks they are nearly finished by the hotel at least. Our time here has flown by and we will definitely return, Malta is an incredible place with amazing transport facilities. Thank you Joanne from Barrhead Travel Newcastle under Lyme and obviously to everyone at the Luna Hotel.

Lovely Place to Stay
Pros:

A warm and welcoming hotel complex offering decent WiFi, adequately sized rooms (I stayed in the basic double studio), and a functional kitchenette.

As a base for work it was good, offering facilities such as an indoor pool, gym, restaurant and bar.

All of the hotel staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful. The location was good, offering a quiet hideaway although they were in the process of digging up the road but that's life and small things like that are not a problem.

The bed was perhaps a little hard and the pillows take a little getting used to but I slept ok so again no complaints.

The kitchen was equipped with what you need to prepare basic meals. There is a two ring hob, a small oven with grill, sufficient pots and pans, a fridge with a small freezer section and a free cleaning kit. I was able to prepare several decent meals so quite happy, although I felt that a microwave would have been helpful.

The location of the hotel is at the bottom of a steep hill so this might be an issue for anyone with mobility issues but otherwise the main town is about a 15 minute walk away. There you can find a range of shops, bars and cafes.

The bus stop is currently out of order outside of the hotel due to the road works but a small walk down past the Starbucks gets you to a stop that takes you anywhere around the island including Valetta for €2 single in the Winter (€2.50 in the summer).

Overall, this was a very positive and productive break and I would definitely recommend the hotel. I'm considering returning myself very soon.

A Genuine review
Pros:

We stayed at the Luna for a month in a studio room on the 5th floor, with a view of the church. Please be aware that the complex is at the bottom of a very long, very steep hill. First the positive points
The staff at this hotel are lovely. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone from the cleaners to the maintenance man had a smile and a hello, when they passed you.The rooms are a decent size and cleaned to a high standard. There are plenty of plugs and a decent mirror. The beds are comfortable and there is an extra pillow and duvets in the wardrobe. The safe was free and easy to use as was the air conditioning/heating. There was plenty of hot water in the bathroom and the shower had decent pressure. The hairdryer worked well. Towels and bed linen were changed regularly. If you put your food bin outside you room late at night or early in the morning, it was emptied by the time you got up in the morning. The pool was a lovely temperature and there were sunloungers for you to relax after a swim. With the bar right next door it was nice to enjoy a coffee or a drink on the lounger. We used to have a nightcap in the restaurant area most evenings, while watching the news on the big tv. The reception area at the moment is bright and airy and the live entertainment on a Friday and Saturday was of high quality. The supermarket staff were helpful, the shelves were well stocked and you could also buy the Tallinja travel card there. Although the reception area was having a refurb it didn't intrude on our holiday at all.
Now the negatives
For some reason we were given an interconnecting room and we could literally hear every movement/conversation/shower/snoring from the adjoining room. I did complain at reception but was told there was no other room available. This rather spoiled the holiday and the people in the adjoioning room felt the same. The Sc facilities are quite poor. Just a set of 3 cups/glasses/plates/bowls/spoons etc and 2 saucepans with no lids. The hob is difficult to understand. You only turn one ring on and they both come on and keep knocking themselves on and off. The curtains are not blackout and the balcony light seems to be controlled centrally. The balcony itself is tiny. You can just about fit two chairs there. There is no table. The tv only has 1 English channel -the news. We took a firestick with us, but the tv was so old there was no port to connect it. To see the tv you had to be in bed. There was a sofa in the room but you couldn't watch the tv from there. There is nowhere in the bathroom to hang a towel or a dressing gown and nowhere to put your toiletries , so they have to go on the floor. The water from our bathroom sink was incredibly slow in draining. You couldn't have a wash after cleaning your teeth, you had to wait ages for the water to drain away. Three times I told the receptionist this, yet at the end of the month, the problem was still there.
As others have mentioned, if your room is at the front of the hotel then the noise from the machinery is horrendous from 6am until 5 pm, so no chance of a lie in or siesta. Clearly this isn't the hotel's fault, but it should be noted. There is no noise at the back of the hotel

Luna still good
Pros:

We were at the Luna in 2025 and enjoyed it enough to return again Jan/Feb 2026. Everything about the hotel is the same as last time. The rooms are clean & comfortable. The self catering facilities remain as they were, more than adequate for a self catering style holiday. If you like a firm mattress, you are in luck. Wi-Fi is faultless in the rooms, Premier league games in the lobby and the cleaners keep the place spotless. The elevators go up and down - what more do you want?
Yes, there is some building improvements going on in the old lobby area but you have to accept a hotel must improve and upgrade and the best time to do this is low season. We are all quick to complain when a hotel begins to ‘look tired’. The builders at the Luna didn’t disturb me or wake me too early and even though there is a bit of dust the domestic team are doing a great job to keep the place tidy.
Unfortunately, it’s not all good news but no blame should be attributed to the Luna.
There is major, and I mean major road works, right outside the hotel front door. There are 5x track machines as well as numerous lorry’s, trucks, vans and concrete mixers as well as a team of workmen. I understand the work needs done but do they have to start the pneumatic road hammers at 0600 GMT? More bad news, this isn’t going to end anytime soon. The buses (which are very good) have been re-routed “until further notice”. Oh dear.
When we booked there was no information about major civil engineering works. Luna have already stated they didn’t have all the information about the road works. I suspect that someone in the Malta road maintenance dept will be sacked - sooner the better.
Not to worry, when you arrive in July it will all be finished, maybe, possibly…

Disabled, take heed.
Pros:

Disabled or mobility problems? WARNING! The road outside the hotel is completely closed, you cannot get to door!!! I had assistance from airport. Wheelchair to transfer desk, then wheelchair to coach, where I was helped on board by driver. Nothing said. When coach stopped, was helped oss, and THEN told hotel was about 5 mins walk! Yes, up a long steep hill!!!!. It took me an agonising HOUR to get up to the hotel. So don’t be caught out. INSIST your transfer is by minibus, or taxi, that can get you to the top of the hill. Then just a short walk down to hotel. Also be aware that the hotel is doing a major refurbishment, so half of it is closed off! No outside spaces, no roof access and no lounge areas. Open is the dining room, with small bar, closes 9.30 - 10 pm and one sitting area in lobby corridor with some tired, shabby and torn seats. The indoor pool is still open, and is lovely!
All the staff are lovely, none of this is their fault, they have been so helpful. Our room is smashing, with fridge and little kitchen, spotlessly clean. Food really good, menu changed every day and lovely, good choices.
To combat no buses, there is a local shuttle bus from round corner, up to village and main road to catch main local buses.
So, as I said, DONT BE CAUGHT OUT LIKE I WAS!!!!!
