First time visit for afternoon tea birthday treat - absolutely wonderful. Food was excellent, service fantastic. I was surprised with a birthday treat and a big “happy birthday” sang by a piano man. The staff were very attentive, especially Alex. Would love to come pack again
The staff were just wonderful, absolutely fabulous and met every expectation! They even left a card and chocolates in the room as it was our anniversary
In the female toilets in the spa, the vent above the toilet had a lot of mould around it, which was a bit gross. The afternoon tea wasn’t nice, it was also £30 PP which I found quite steep. The cakes given felt more like all inclusive dessert cakes, and the finger sandwiches had dry crusts almost like the bread had gone stale. We also asked for a second pot of tea that never got brought out to us, so for these reasons we found the afternoon tea really disappointing.
Palm Court Manager arranged seating by the water for dinner at short notice, excellent dinner with Ollie our waiter adding delightful service, the temperature of all the different spa facilities, great breakfast sausages,
Room was a little smaller than we hoped and didn't have a great deal of natural light
The superior room was spacious, well-decorated, clean and comfortable. They were well-equipped and we really appreciated the hospitality tray. Staff were also friendly and helpful.
There was nothing not to like.
Let me be clear this is not a review of the hotel, as unfortunately we did not get chance to stay as the hotel cancelled our booking 5 days prior to our stay, as they realised they were fully booked! Can't say how disappointing this, I had booked this as a surprise treat for my husband a number of weeks ago and to be let down at short notice if very poor. So it probably is a lovely hotel but the organisation is not what I would expect.
We were visiting Bangor Races so decided to stay an extra couple of nights and chose this hotel on the basis of reviews. Difficult to park when we arrived but there was a wedding party at the hotel which could have accounted for this. However the hotel is lacking in Blue Badge parking having only three designated spots, with access to one of these often restricted where larger cars are legitimately parked in nearby space in the main car park but are long enough to impinge on access to the far end Blue Badge spot. We observed this to be the case on several occasions during our stay. The reception staff booked us in efficiently and guided us to the lift which is accessed via one of the hotel’s eateries. This appears to be primarily a service lift but it gets the job done. We had a room on the second floor that contained two single bed in the sleeping area and two sofa beds in a separate lounge area with a good sized bathroom incorporating both a bath and walk in shower. Both the sleeping and seating areas had good sized tv’s. The room had adequate clothes hanging space, a coffee machine in addition to the usual kettle, bottles of still and sparkling water plus a wide assortment of quality teas, coffees with some delicious biscuits. The toiletries provided were also very good quality. Generally speaking we find hotel beds uncomfortable with the exception of one in Jersey that changed all mattresses every year. Unfortunately the Grosvenor beds fell into the uncomfortable category and were very squeaky so we would not have wanted a prolonged stay. Given the size of the sleeping area it should very easily accommodate two small double beds without compromising floor space for moving about which would be a plus from my point of view. We ate in both of the hotel’s restaurants. The carvery in the Palm Court was very good but my preference was for the meals taken in Nelson. The menu offered plenty of choice and the four meals we ate there were excellent, beautifully cooked with quality ingredients. Throughout the hotel the majority of the staff, especially Reception who quickly sorted out an issue we had, were very good but are being let down by the housekeeping side of things. the grouting in the bathroom needs attention and the taps on the bath which appear to be loose but should be easily dealt with. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in booking again if we were visiting the area
We had an absolutely wonderful experience with this wedding venue. Every member of staff was incredibly helpful, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. Communication throughout the entire process was excellent, which made everything run so smoothly.
Our day couldn’t have gone any better—it really was perfect. What could have been a stressful time turned into such an easy and enjoyable experience. We’re so grateful to the whole team for making it so special, especially Emma, Sarah, Alistair and Rose.
I would 100% recommend this venue.
Everything! Staff friendliness, hotel facilities including the excellent toiletries, brilliant food, exceptional cleanliness of rooms and the excellent breakfast - particularly the green cleanser! Much better than a lot of other larger hotels!
Hotel.was clean, staff very nice. Breakfast good
More vegan options at breakfast would be good

Got upgraded to a super lovely room.
We've stayed Christmas 2024 at this hotel and were so pleased that we booked again before leaving for Christmas 2025.
We were not over happy to be 'farmed out' into the banqueting suite for Christmas Day lunch and Boxing Day Gala night which required a walk outside in cold/ inclement weather. But, this was more than compensated by the lovely surroundings, nice room and pleasant staff, so we booked again.
I requested a change of main course for the Booking Day Gala night, I thought it not too much to ask as the request was made several weeks beforehand at the point of payment, I offered to pay an additional charge and suggested that we could possibly transfer into the Palm Court Restaurant.
In the end it was agreed that the menu option could be changed and we would remain in the Banqueting Suite.
Several clients moaned about the walk out in the cold. The music was far too load, it was turned down but , 'the 1940/50's Rat Pack' theme is well past its sell by date, my Grannie who was born in 1908 would have enjoyed it, but it was obvious that the younger families those born 1980's and upwards were mystified at what was being played.
The food at this hotel is generally beautifully presented, first course delicious. However, our mains did not arrive and I mentioned the prearranged change, I was told it would be a few minutes wait...I was horrified, humiliated, embarrassed at what was put before us and so were the people sat near to us. The plates had deliberately been 'piled high' with whatever could be heaped onto it.
I was so shocked and, in panic, I attempted to remove the excess to a side plate! Roast beef was hidden under a heap of sausages, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, masses of veg circled the plate - it was deliberately awful!
On reflection I should have just sent it back but I simply panicked but it ruined what was already a rather 'iffy' evening.
The entertainment was so poor that the room was more than half empty as the desserts were ending.
I had photographed the awful plates of food and wrote a review on the hotel's internal platform that night. As we checked out the following morning, Reception had read the report, it would seem that several reception staff members were aware of it, assured me that a manager would contact me. Today it's the 2nd April 2026, nobody has ever bothered to contact me.
So, unfortunately, it's a case of being swept under the carpet?
Most staff seem to work their socks off and are so friendly but there are, obviously, others who have no idea of the effect of their unpleasant actions.
We've lunched at the hotel several times over the past two years but, regrettably, the 26th December 2025 will be the last time that we attend.
I can't express just how deep, how awful that experience was, the plates should never have been allowed to leave the kitchen, so the action was deliberate and we have never recieved an official apology.
Quite dreadful . Never again.
The food and room were excellent and the location is convenient.

Comfort was incredible, rooms were brilliant. Breakfast was a great variety and delicious. Nelson’s bar was great for food and drinks reasonably priced.
