I had a wonderful stay at Shangri-La Guangzhou and was truly touched by the attentiveness of the staff across all departments. The front desk, breakfast staff, concierge, and housekeeping teams were all warm, patient, and proactive, always communicating with kindness and genuine care.
Returning to Shangri-La Guangzhou after three months, everything here still feels so warm, just like coming back to a home I never left. This familiar and heartfelt experience made my stay full of happiness. Since the booking stage, Ryan has provided professional and enthusiastic assistance as always—such a great experience! During my stay, I was extremely satisfied with Wing and Weylie's service and care. There was also a gentleman at the lounge, sorry I can't remember his name, but his English is excellent, and his service was very appropriate and thorough, professional yet humble. With this letter, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and heartfelt praise to all the staff of the hotel.
Shangri-La Guangzhou is a masterclass in leadership-led hospitality.
What distinguishes this hotel is not only its elegance or location, but the clarity of vision behind it. There is a rare sense of alignment here — between management, team, and guest experience — that can only come from thoughtful leadership and a deeply rooted service culture.
The consistency of warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail across every touchpoint speaks volumes. You feel it immediately: this is a place where people are valued, empowered, and proud of what they do — and that feeling reaches the guest effortlessly.
Over time, Shangri-La Guangzhou becomes more than a destination. It becomes a second home, built on trust, care, and human connection.
This is hospitality done with intelligence, heart, and quiet confidence.
I had a small but surprising issue during my recent stay. I’ve stayed at this hotel multiple times over the years — including during the COVID period — and never had any problems. My last stay was about two years ago, and everything had always been fine, which made this experience even more unexpected.
On my first night this time, I took a nap on the bed and later woke up with itchy eyes. By the next morning, my eyes were completely red and bloodshot. I’m sensitive to dust mites, and the reaction felt similar to when pillowcases or pillows haven’t been cleaned for a while.
I reported it the next morning and asked for fresh pillows. When I came back later that day, a fruit plate had been delivered, and the pillows were replaced that night. After that, I had no more issues — which means the hotel does have perfectly clean pillows; I guess I was just unlucky enough to get the one that wasn’t.
To be honest, if this had happened at a $15 guesthouse near the airport, I would have shrugged it off. But experiencing it at a Shangri-La was surprising enough that I’m leaving a two-star review, even though the situation was eventually resolved.
Ms Beryl Jiao was the best. She embodied the spirit of genuine hospitality: always happy to help, approachable & accomodating, patient & clear with her instructions, and generous with her time. At the end of every Canton Fair day, we looked forward to her seeing us off on our night adventure & coming home to update her how we faired. We learned so much from her. Everytime we went out, she made sure we knew the different modes of getting around the hotel & that we were confident enough to explore them. Her depth of experience was obvious because she always anticipates how we could avoid making mistakes with our commute.
Congrats to the whole Shangri-la Guangzhou team who exudes the same joy & pursuit of excellence in their service. There were plenty of staff spread in different parts of the lobby to assist. Everyone was eager and available to connect with their customers even despite this busy time. Their warmth and sincerity can be felt - they were always ready to assist without being intrusive.
Special mention to Ms Sita Chen who assisted us with the room bookings for our team for phase 3 of the fair. She was kind and meticulous to detail and very responsive to my many many queries.
It was a great first time experience at phase 1 and looking forward to coming back for the last phase of the fair.
Room Cleaning staff is friendly and kind ,however , front desk check in staff were not professional .
My whole stay at Shangri-LA in Guanghzou has been great: the rooms, the facilities, the breakfast and restauration options. But above all, the staff was incredibly helpful. At the desk, Uka helped me out with an app issue I had. She was professional, friendly and most of all very patient, it has been a pleasure!
My comments above specifically pertain to the buffet. If considered isolated, I would rate it terrible. The hotel was great, the room was average, and the amenities seemed adequate. However, I found the food at the buffet disappointing for a five-star establishment. The selection was poor, all the meats were served cold, the salads looked old, and the staff appeared unprepared for the standards expected at such a venue.
Even though only 3-4 tables were occupied, we repeatedly asked someone to clear our plates. Additionally, there was often no one at the various stations to serve food. The only standout aspect was the very attentive manager.
Clean and fresh room with city views & orchids! Buffet breakfast was a treat and an experience not to be missed. Restaurants foods was fresh and delicious! (Pricy food compared to any other outside restaurants. Amenities are excellent as is the swimming pool/s.
Long time didn't write the travel review in TripAdvisor (one of my favourite travel websites), as supporting our country's travel industry, I decided getting around more our country rather than foreign countries, so this time travelled in Guangzhou+ Conghua for relaxing and hot spring for 8 days, last 2 nights stayed in Guangzhou Shangri-la from 13-9 to 15-9, room no. 2305, which I hadn't been to before as the brand is falling away in terms of service and facilities, this hotel hasn't been an exception as I had a terrible experience, so luckily just stayed 2 nights to the end...
Pors: Thank you to the lobby manager, James, for the arrangement and for the birthday cake for my wife, which made us feel delighted.
The pool has a resort atmosphere which apart three areas of the pool also well-arranged.
The view of the room is fantastic, although the decorations are relatively outdated, but the maintenance is decent.
Cons: The hairdryer is ineffective and outdated, requiring continuous button presses for airflow, which is really inconvenient for those with long hair.
In addition, we checked out at the lobby encountered a very terrible experience. When we left our luggages in the lobby after checked- out, I drove my car to the hotel entrance from basement car park for took our luggages, one of the doorman, the surname called Jiang(江), men, wore glasses, asked me get forward of my car around 30 meters with no reason, I then asked why as there was no car and no other people at the moment execpt us also I didn't bother anyone else(The managerial staff should check the CCTV as it is the proof) , he said nothing and just kept asking for that, does it make sense??? I have right to park my car at the entrance as we are guests of the hotel right???Are we not guests? Do Hong Kongers not need to pay for a stay??? Not welcome for Hong Kongers??? Or so jealous of Hong Kongers!!! This so-called "staff" is absolutely disgusting and not worth being a Shangri-la staff, really low-quality, as the saying goes, "A piece of rat faeces spoiled the whole pot of congee", this guy really is... It's unimaginable why Shangri-la have such a low-quality employee like this, which absolutely drags down this hotel brand, also unfair to other high-quality staff...I have almost stayed in all Shangri-la in Southeast Asia, and I have never liked it before. I think the management should sort it out to maintain the reputation of your hotel.
Slightly old architect building but other than that its an amzing stay
Just a one night short trip and it was always a delight to be at the Shangri-la, the home away from home feeling never disappoint, amazed at the value for money factor, if heading this way from Hong Kong, it would be your best choice. Always book the Horizon Club rooms to enjoy brief business meetings in the lounge.
Shangri La’s staff gave us complementary fruits, and snacks. The swimming pool is gigantic, with the outdoor area perfect for a good stroll.
This was the third Shangri-La hotel we've stayed at in the past six months, and — as expected — it was amazing!
Our room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully prepared. We selected our preferred pillows via the Shangri-La app before arrival, and they were ready and waiting for us — such a thoughtful touch. From our window, we enjoyed a fantastic view of the river and the city skyline.
The fitness center and spa were top-notch and had everything we needed. I couldn’t resist treating myself to another aroma massage at CHI, The Spa — just heavenly.
One of the highlights for our family was the outdoor swimming pool. There was a fun foam soap party the evening we arrived, and the inflatable water slide was a huge hit with the kids! Just a heads-up: swimming caps are required, so bring your own or plan to get one there.
Breakfast was generous and full of variety. It's one of those moments where you tell yourself, "Just one bun..." but they all look so delicious that you end up having two — or more! 😄
We traveled by taxi, so I can’t comment on public transportation, but it felt like a very central location.
And finally — a big plus in mainland China — the Wi-Fi worked great and even allowed access to YouTube, which made my son especially happy since he didn’t have to rely on my travel mobile internet or use a VPN!
Highly recommended. Thank you, Shangri-La Guangzhou, for another memorable stay!
Very good hotel but chaos at time of check in and breakfast since they don't setup rope to queue up. Better to learn from others like Westin at front desk

Great hotel for trade show attendance . Right across from the hotel is pazhou exhibition hall
The service was impeccable. Hotel was a little outdated but it was still a great hotel. Would stay here again just for the service!
