tja only positive point is the location
it was the most expensive in our Peru trip and no the best one ...
Great hotel, great staff, ideal location relative to Machu Picchu and great dining. A special thanks to David at the front desk, who was exceptionally helpful with a variety of requests and favors. Highly recommend.
Richard met us right at the train station and made us feel safe and welcome. He was extremely polite and professional while immediately taking care of luggage and belongings. We were walked to the hotel, which truly impressed us with its charm, decor and excellent staff. From the moment we walked in, we experienced true luxury and beauty. The environment feels authentic and incredibly comfortable. Richard and the hotel staff, combined with the beauty and sophistication of the rooms and hallways will make us repeat guests!
We had a wonderful experience from start to finish at the Sumaq Hotel. We had an overnight stay after trekking up to Machu Picchu. Frank gave us first rate service, ensuring that all aspects of our stay was exceptional. We will definitely return to the Sumaq Hotel the next time we visit Machu Picchu.
Luis M. in the dining room provided wonderful dinner service that was welcoming and friendly. He suggested digestive tea for our wobbly stomachs. Front desk was also very welcoming and efficient. The hotel meets you at the Train Station with your baggage, so you do not have to go back to the hotel to pick up your things after Macchu Picchu. Excellent service.
The staff here is incredible. My wife and I arrived after a visit to Machu Picchu and were met with hot towels and a special drink. Evelyn was such a sweet person and took care of everything we could possibly need… before we even knew that we needed it.
When it came time for dinner, I couldn’t make up my mind. That’s when I met Jose Antonio. Jose explained how chimichurri was used in the burgers they made. I never had chimichurri in my life. There were so many delicious options for me to choose from, but Jose Antonio’s description couldn’t leave my mind, so I went with the burger. I promise you I’m not exaggerating when I say that it was one of the best burgers I’ve had in my 47 years on this planet. I couldn’t wait to tell him how amazing his recommendation was. He was very happy to hear how much of an impression it left on me.
It’s so cool how a simple chat with someone will become a lifelong memory.
So, to Evelyn and Jose Antonio, thanks for making our stay a truly memorable one.
And thank you to everyone else on the staff. This place feels like a home away from home.
SUMAQ Hotel was an exceptional part of our Peru journey and the perfect place to experience Machu Picchu.
From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt luxurious and refined while still celebrating Peruvian culture and design. The finishes, décor, and overall atmosphere struck the perfect balance between high-end comfort and a true sense of place.
The rooms were beautiful, and we especially appreciated the thoughtful details throughout our stay. The bath amenities were excellent, the shower was wonderful after long days of exploring, and touches like the pillow mist and foot lotion made the experience feel extra special and memorable.
The restaurant was another standout. Not only was the setting beautiful, but several of our dinners here were among the best meals we enjoyed during our entire trip to Peru. The food, presentation, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding.
The location could not have been more convenient for visiting Machu Picchu, making it easy to focus on the experience rather than logistics.
What truly elevated our stay, however, was the service. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and attentive. We were especially impressed when the hotel coordinated the delivery of our luggage directly to the Hiram Bingham train, allowing us to fully enjoy our final morning without worrying about our bags. It was a small detail that made a big difference and perfectly reflects the level of hospitality at SUMAQ.
If you’re visiting Machu Picchu and looking for a hotel that combines luxury, exceptional service, beautiful dining, and an authentic Peruvian feel, SUMAQ is an outstanding choice.
Highly recommended.
Over the top service, friendly staff, no language barrier issue, food is outstanding.
Only went to the restaurant, but the hotel looks great. The food was the up there with the best we had in Peru. It was all in with our package which normally means average BUT this was top notch. Clean, good selection, Good service. Would strongly recommend. Easy to walk to.
Very central, high quality hotel. All the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Couldn’t have asked for better service. Restaurant was lovely. Thank you David and all the team
Great hotel! Wonderful location. Restaurant food delicious. Hotel staff very helpful. Shout out to Thalia and Frank for their assistance!
The tasting menu was amazing and the service by Johann and his team were even better!
Our stay at this luxury hotel in Machu Picchu was truly exceptional from beginning to end. A special thank you to Enrique, whose support and attention to detail made our experience seamless and unforgettable. He went above and beyond to assist us with obtaining our Machu Picchu tickets, ensuring everything was arranged perfectly and without stress. Throughout our stay, Enrique catered to our every need with warmth, professionalism, and genuine care, making us feel welcomed and valued at every moment.
The culinary experience was equally outstanding. Every meal was beautifully prepared, showcasing fresh ingredients, incredible flavors, and thoughtful presentation. We would especially like to commend the chef and the entire culinary team for their excellent hospitality and dedication to creating memorable dining experiences. Their passion and commitment to guest satisfaction were evident in every dish. Combined with the hotel's stunning setting and impeccable service, this was a truly remarkable stay that we will cherish for years to come.
Fantastic hotel. We were fortunate enough to face the beautiful and powerful Urubamba river, sheltered by an impressive cliff. One of the best included breakfast I ever saw. The dinner was also excellent. The hotel was perfect in all regards, and we were warmly welcomed with a nice little drink. Wonderful, two-days stay.
Simply excellent! Food was well present, flavor amazing!
This is a beautiful hotel in Aguas Calientes. The food and service were great. They were also kind enough to take our luggage from the train station and hold it at the hotel so that we were able to continue on to Machu Picchu when we first arrived. (I don't know if this is routinely available or not.) Our garden view room was spacious. I would mention that it was right next to the rail line so during day hours it was noticeable, but it didn't run at night and didn't affect our sleep or overall experience.
Had the pleasure of staying in the Sumaq in Machu Picchu on our recent trip to Peru. We made the decision to spend a night in Aguas Calientes so we could go to Machu Picchu twice and had a great stay in the Sumaq. They were very accommodating and friendly. Upon our arrival on the train they took our bags so we could go straight to the Citadel and when we left the next day they met us at the train with our bags so we did not need to carry them around all day. During the say we had a wonderful dinner and breakfast the net morning. Their restaurant staff were very attentive and gave us great recommendations.
The room was very well appointed with a view out to the river and included coffee and water. I would highly recommend staying at Sumaq if you are staying the night in Aquas Calientes.
Amazing hotel run line it’s in Manhattan NY but in a beautifully remote location. Frank and Shirley were fantastic
I had the chance to stay with friends at Sumaq on my second trip to Machu Picchu, and it was a highlight. Dinner was one of the best I had in Peru (and that's saying a lot considering the delicious food throughout Peru), and the service at the hotel was warm and thoughtful. Don't miss out!
