I highly recommend Hotel Frón.
Pros:

My experience was terrific. I actually had to cancel the booking due to bad weather causing several flight delays (same flight delayed 3 times), but I have stayed at Hotel Frón once before and didn't rate it then, so this review is for both "visits" (i.e. experiences).

The staff was professional, compassionate and went out of their way to prevent me from loss due to the cancellation.

The other time when I actually got to stay at Frón I had no issues, which also is why I chose it again. The breakfast is typical Scandinavian and was served in an adjacent building. I have read other reviews complaining about noise from the surrounding nightlife during the weekends (the location of the hotel is very central in downtown Reykjavík), but when I visited from Monday through Friday, there was no problem with noise, so I am guessing that weekends are very different from workdays.

Cons:

I tried to telephone the property without the calls being answered (got elevator music). However, when I e-mailed them, they responded clearly and understandingly. Brief, timely and to the point, clearly intent on helping me. So my advice is to just send an e-mail if a call fails.

We enjoyed our stay and the convenience of the location.
Pros:

We had asked for a room with a shower and that was granted. The room was comfortably furnished.

Cons:

Our room was in an out building so in order to get to the restaurant we had to go outside. Also, I had checked to be sure that the hotel had an elevator as we are senior travelers. However, we discovered that though an elevator took one to a particular floor, there could be steps within that floor to gain access to various rooms. Fortunately, we did not have an issue with our particular room, however should we travel there again, I would be very specific that needed a room that could be accessed without steps.

Pros:

We ended up with a spacious apartment with plenty of extra room, multiple beds, and a kitchenette. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast was excellent!

Der perfekte Start für eine Islandreuse
