Please read this because it’s an honest truthfull review
Pros:

5/5

We are on our last day of our holiday I took my mother for a quiet relaxing holiday. We have been treated like kings and queens. The staff and people could not have done anymore for us. We tipped the staff because they simply deserved it. Every part of the holiday has been excellent. It has been that good we have booked again to come back in a couple of months hopefully the weather will be better.
But no one and no country we have travelled to welcome you more.
It’s opened my eyes it really has. Every person living here chips in on keeping the country clean and tidy. We felt safe, happy and content. The hotel was clean and spotless,
The food was excellent and all members of the staff from road sweepers to owners go out of their way to make it so.
Thank you Tunisia we love you and all your people. Thank you to all the management and security for making us feel just perfect.

See you in a couple of months.
And thank you again.

Stay away if you thinking of nice winter holiday
Pros:

Although the good location next to to the beach this hotel is nothing else but ghost building during the winter with no atmosphere whatsoever, rooms were clean but so called,, restaurant " not nesesarly, its a canteen accessable from main street and as a 5star venue it has to offer couple of tables of mostly local food some not edible and one plate of sweets nust to put you off the eating there completely, wine at this all inclusive diner served in tumblers, again this hotel advertise as 5 stars, no minibar, no tea, coffee or even kettle in rooms, tv not working, lifts not working, power cut offs all day long, and be prepared to be woken by the drills and hammers as some of the rooms were beeing refurbished, in baur nice barman for our question what is it this container with cloudy water and very oht of date herb doing on the bar answered that the mint for cocktails, that was the cream de la cream and we where off very next day, booked Iberostar hotel to rescue the remining 5 days of our holiday. Nkt recommend in winter at all. Dont ruin your holiday and stay away.

Booked for my partner birhday
Pros:

This holiday was booked for my partners birthday,
First impression very clean, friendly staff at the reception and then got met by amazing bar staff one in particular Mr Wales lol that’s what he called the mr so he got stuck with it as well lol, and chef nothing was to much for them
Main bar
Alcohol was limited on the all inclusive vodka was like paint stripper 🤣 whisky, gin was nice and if you want a cocktail go premium it’s 14TD which works out about £3.57
Also had snacks like peanuts, olives and cheese, and there usually some cakes and other snacks.
Only down for if a non smoker, be aware they smoke at the bar
The double/twin room
We had a twin room two separate beds for a couple not a big deal but for some that might be a problem.
The room was spacious, clean and tidy on arrival they had snacks and bottle water which was a nice touch, beds was comfortable the toilet was separate from the shower and wash basin wasn’t a problem for us.
Balcony was ok, tv had 2 English film channels.
The only down for was bedding was not not cleaned as often but twice we did say not to bother as we only arrived and just needed the essentials like towels and toilet roll (which they was tight on lol) 😂 until you ask the boss of maids and you get a pack of 4 toilet rolls, soap and shampoo clean towels etc 😂 she even done 2 swans out of the towels and added flowers etc nothing too much for her.
Also the room had carpet was not fussed on that as rather tiled as more hygienic.
There was on major issue with the leakage in the toilet which the floor around the toilet was constantly wet and we had to use a spare towel to mop it up and keep it there day after day as we complained about it few times to the reception and nothing was done about it.
Pool area
Did not use the pool are the pool bar so cant really say much about it, the grass/mud by the pool put us off on day one but it was a small pool looked more like a kids pool but plenty of people used it and sunbathed, they also had a snack bar which yet again did not use. Pool table and some arcade games and table tennis.
Day/evening Entertainment
Not got involved in the daytime activities but they had plenty to do like zumba, darts, pool, learn to belly dance etc
Evening entertainment what we saw of it was a DJ playing music, one night a bloke playing a saxophone but was playing allong to the music, another night one was playing the accordion, then out last night there was a singer who was pretty decent to be honest. The animation team seem lovely enough.
Dinning room/food
Dinning room was always clean and tidy, the were 2 in particular waiters one that called me mrs swansea (as of my tattoo) lol 😆 so he was known as Mr Swansea, and Uncle (dont know name lol) he was the one that always worked on the left as you went into the restaurant, he made sure we had seating, bottle of water, and the usual diet cole and sprite we didnt even had to tip him (which we did after a few days as we appreciated the effort and hard work he put into looking after us the whole holiday) also spoke amazing english and he was amazing and worked very had.
Then there was the pasta chef (he tossed that pasta as no one was watching lol 😆 ) he spoke really good English (most staff did) his pasta bolognese was always on point it was banging (best dish in the restaurant)
The breakfast only went 3 times day 1 and the last 2 days
Was really basic not too fussed on breakfast anyway lol 😆
Lunch and dinner was same thing different day kinda thing
Pizza, chips, salad, chicken (was nice), beef stew (quite fatty on times)
Fish, pasta, breads ice cream and cakes etc
Spar and gym:
Gym not used so can't really comment on that
The spar treatment was amazing variety of packages, and reasonable prices also we was allowed to use the salt water pool every day if needed even though that's usually extra charge. Between each treatment you get flavoured infused tea.
The team reassured us every step of the way as they knew i was a bitlow in my self-esteem and image but that dont bother them as they said they don't judge people or even look at you for your size or shape etc

The grand bizzar is walking distance go out the back entrance and turn right and its small walk to it not that cheap if carry on walking you come to more shops and they seemed to be cheaper and hassle free

Last minute trip
Pros:

Rooms need a refresh everything is a little tired but comfortable. Did have a leak in toilet everytime room above flushed we would have a puddle of dirty toilet water coming out of the hatch above our toilet reported many times nothing was ever done so left towel to soak it up that was changed everyday by cleaner. No kettle in room so need to wait until 8am for bar to open if want a coffee. Smoking is aloud in bar and lobby incase you don’t like smoking. Room cleaning was very basic just replacing towels, sometimes adding toilet paper 1 roll every few days and fixing the bed. Food pretty much the same every meal so plan for a couple of meals out. The organisation in the restaurant is poor, grilled meat was often hard, most hot dishes were served lukewarm. The waiter that looked after us worked very hard nothing was ever 2 much soon he saw us he would send someone to go get us our drinks remembered from the first time and always found and set us up a table. Good location Approx 30 min walk to harbour (center) but 5 min from waterpark etc.
At the beach bar, beer is charged shameful for an “all-inclusive”.
Public toilets in the hotel were dirty, without towels or toilet paper almost every day, locks in ladies never worked.
Spa was great for the money spent.

Badly Misrepresented
Pros:

I wasn’t going to review this holiday, but recent reviews( which I have kept up to date with have prompted me to
On arrival the hotel looks very inviting . We asked if we could pay our tourist tax £67, but were told we could only pay in cash!
Alarm bells should have rung.
We paid in cash and asked for a receipt , but were told ‘ it was on the system, no receipt necessary’!
The room was ok, toilet was leaking, no coffee or tea facilities .
Toilet was allegedly fixed, but continued leaking for the whole ten days.
The real positive here is the staff who were always smiling and helpful( well most of them)
First morning at breakfast was like rugby scrum as there was a conference taking place .
There were 2 , 2 slice toasters for the entire restaurant and one didn’t even work!
It was complete chaos and the restaurant manager didn’t seem interested.

The pool, don’t be deceived by the lush green grass surrounding the pool area it was just dust, dirt , broken plastic cutlery and cigarette ends. We did show pictures to the management team who said it would be cleared up, bear in mind you had to walk through this mess to get in the pool!
Not a pleasant experience

The next day we were informed that there was a wedding for 300 plus guests happening!
They all arrived at the same time in the restaurant and there was little consideration for guests. People were piling their plates and not eating most of the food! Again like a rugby scrum.

When we went in for dinner in the evening the queues came out of the doors
We were quite upset , but a manager took us to there a la carte restaurant,

The next morning was total chaos as all the guests again arrived at thesame time.
This was one of 2 weddings and 3 conferences that we were not informed about.
The food was below average, I informed them that I didn’t eat fish and was given an omelette!.
Somewhere along the line there was cross contamination of fish, and shellfish as I had an allergic reaction!

A few days into the holiday all the poolside furniture was stacked up and the bar facilities removed, as well as the beach parasols and beach bar!

It was downhill from there
Building works on the main road, traffic noise and the constant rumble of the furniture from pool being moved.

Not a pleasant or relaxing experience.
The receptionist staff were completely uninterested, but miraculously took a card payment for the late check out charge!

This is only the tip of the iceberg of all the things that happened.
The hotel nowhere near a 5 star, we did write to our holiday company who said that the rating was fair!but did not acknowledge the shortcomings!
We are well travelled and this was by far the worst holiday experience ever.
Please look at the reviews before you book, there is a general theme!

Mahari hotel states it’s a 5 star
Pros:

I would love to say good things about food plenty of choice but what lets it down is temperature of the food.
Rice, fish dishes even soup were below what in uk is safe standard temperature for safe eating.
I had enough today had to ask for the soup to be heated up.
Im stuck to either what are I would be safe foods at this hotel
I stayed in Tunisia before used other places and hotels in Tunisia . The Staff here are so helpful and pleasant can’t fault them.
Room cleaners amazing doing fantastic job. Waiter’s excellent and receptionist pleasant.
The spa I can say has been amazing too treatments wonderful
The hotel biggest let down is catering not in the food quality but the actual temperature which food is kept at. There is heat plates but I can say honestly not at a setting to keep food at correct safe temperatures for food regulations minimum.
Come on Mahari sort this

NEVER CHOOSE THIS HOTEL
Pros:

Booked this hotel for 7 nights and 8 days for a family holiday .
On arrival we informed the reception that we are all vegetarian and we have a special child who only eats plain boiled rice , the restaurant was closed by the time we reached so we were offered room service . We informed the reception again that we are vegetarian , 10 minutes after checking in the room we received a cold dinner in our room with a meat platter .
Bedding in the room was filthy and very poor state , Duvet covers were ripped off, mini fridge area was absolutely disgusting, couple of light bulbs in the room were not working. Phone provided in the room was out of service . No slippers provided, No WIFI service ( I am sure these are all basic things which needs to be done right at every hotel and you are claiming your hotel to be a five star) , when informed at reception we were told that everything will be fixed next day .
Next day we never received any plain rice for our special child who for lunch , after complaining again on reception , we were given rice floating in hot water during dinner. No slippers given even after several reminders . When we went to use the pool there were no towels left for us to use at 4.30pm .
My friend’s wife fell sick after having lunch and she has been vomiting all evening .

We wanted to address this to the hotel manager but we were being told that he is not available , then we asked for a duty manager , he was not available either . This is not a kind of hospitality we expected in Tunisia, we were under impression that hospitality in this country is very good and ppl are very welcoming .

We checking out on 5th Jan and would like to give the opportunity to the hotel management to make it right and turn things around . We normally don’t complain and are here to enjoy our family break .

If someone from the management can speak to us and resolve the matter that will be much appreciated.

Good and bad
Pros:

We went to this hotel for a Christmas break. The hotel was lovely, the service was excellent, very clean, staff excellent. The food was great.
But when 300 or more students arrived for a seminar the hotel restaurant turned in a nightmare, all I would say it was like feeding time at the zoo, also other nationals would pile there tables with food and leave so much, can honestly say it was the worst restaurant we have been to in all our travels, also as it was winter only one bar was open but it was constantly gate crashed by children , it would have been better if a small drinking station had been set up at accommodate them.

Worst holiday experience
Pros:

Worst holiday experience – not even close to a 5-star hotel

We stayed at this hotel during the Christmas holidays, and it was the worst holiday experience we have ever had. This hotel does not deserve one star, let alone five.

Hygiene: We saw a large cockroach inside a food serving dish. When reported, a staff member calmly crushed it with his fingers. Almost every day we found cockroaches in the bathroom or toilet. We also saw a rat in the corridor on the fourth floor.

Food: Food quality was very poor. Leftovers from dinner were reheated and served again for lunch or reused as different dishes (for example, meat stew turned into pasta with minced meat). For a so-called five-star hotel, only oranges (and occasionally mandarins) were served as fruit.

Staff: Kitchen staff were unfriendly, though some waiters were polite. One waiter, Ashraf, was very kind, professional, and provided excellent service.

Rooms: Our room was not renovated. The carpet was extremely dirty and black, with small insects flying in the room and on the bed sheets. Housekeeping was only done upon request and limited to making the bed and changing towels; bed sheets were not changed daily.

Kids Club: Advertised as a kids club, but in reality it was just a small room with music for about one hour per day so children could dance — not a real kids club.

Overall, this hotel fails basic hygiene standards and is not suitable for families. I would not recommend it.

Truly awful place
Pros:

Avoid this hotel like the plague. It is run down, shabby and frankly dirty with no regular vacuuming of the bedrooms. Hotel management are rude, aggressive and confrontational at any suggestion that standards aren't being met. The hotel's own website claims that rooms have " individually controlled air conditioning" which simply isn't true. My room was too hot and stuffy, but only hot air can be obtained through the system, not cold air. When I raised this, the acting manager, Shabwah, was argumentative and unhelpful. No reputable tour agency should be including listings for this venue in its packages.

That said, the individual bar staff and waiters were friendly and efficient. Another case of a team being let down by poor senior management and a building that has been neglected over many years.

Dissatisfied overall
Pros:

In a nutshell, the hotel is ok, but falls well short of a 5 star resort.

On arrival, no welcome drink or even where to find anything. Refused to give us a 2nd key even though there's two of us.

1.Food/Breakfast /lunch /dinner

Small space for so many people! Extremely busy in early December. Anything fresh goes really quick and we have to quee for ages. Same goes for the tea and coffee machines. A waiter told us there were over 400 people at breakfast. There were only 2 hot drink machines our whole stay, and one of those was always broke!

My fiance wanted a cup of tea, only to find no tea bags left. When she asked a waiter they just replied saying it's all gone.

The food is ok to be honest, but often cold. And once it's gone they're very slow to replace.

Hygiene is a real issue here too. It's unfair for me to comment on locals touching bread and pizza and putting it back, but i saw chefs cooking food with substandard hygiene. Needless to say, we both got food poisoning!

Lunch was great because it wasnt so busy, and the staff were accommodating because they had the time to do so.

Evening meal however was an unpleasenant expericene every night. Again, mainly because of the buss88yness and general lack of food.

I'm lactose intolerant and there were no milk alternatives

2.Room

The hotel would not give us an extra duvet! Felt like an extra kick in the teeth when we had food poisoning and we're ill for 3 days out of 7.

No conditioner or moisturizer in the room for my fiance. Hotel would not provide.

Room was large enough and cleaning was OK though.

Shower was rubbish. Water slightly dribbled out.

Really loud at night too. Loads of noise from outside. We both struggled to sleep.

3 Cleansiness

I had an issue with the cleanliness of the chefs cooking the food. Picking up pizza with bare hands. Hotel in general is kept very clean however, especially the lobby.
Toilets however were not kept clean. I noticed Water on the floor in the cubicles every time I went to use.
The rooms are clean though no problem with this area. Downside was no wifi in room (even though this was advertised). Also no kettle in room and no mini bar.

To conclude. This is a good 3 star hotel.... not 5....

Please don't be fooled by the photos on the websites the photos are about 30 years old .
Pros:

We booked a 10-day stay at the Mahari Hotel in Tunisia, advertised as a 5-star resort. However, upon arrival, it became immediately apparent that the hotel falls significantly short of that rating. Based on our experience, we would struggle to rate it even as a 2.5-star facility.

Here are the issues we encountered:
• No tea or coffee making facilities were available in the room, which is a basic expectation for a 5-star hotel.
• The telephone in our room did not work, making it impossible to request room service—only to be told later that room service was not available, despite it being listed as a facility on the hotel’s description.
• The air conditioning was broken, leaving the room hot and uncomfortable throughout the stay.
• A piece of plastic was found in the bed after housekeeping had cleaned the room, raising concerns about the overall cleanliness and hygiene.
• A shelf under the television fell off the wall multiple times, posing a safety risk.
• We were moved to a different room, but the new room was no better—air conditioning was still not working, the balcony door handle was hanging off, and the same issue with the shelf occurred again.

Additionally, my husband has a severe milk allergy, which we made clear. However, the hotel staff offered no support or suitable alternatives, and most of the food was either cooked in butter or contained milk powder, making it impossible for him to eat safely.

We also felt very unsafe during our stay in Tunisia, with extremely aggressive sales tactics from vendors both inside and outside the hotel, creating an uncomfortable and intimidating environment.
All issues were brought to the attention of the reception staff

Due to these issues, we were forced to cut our honeymoon short, checking out after just 5 days and arranging our own flight home through another airline at additional expense. We had no choice but to leave, as the conditions were unacceptable and the staff unhelpful in resolving any of our concerns.

This trip was meant to be a celebration of our marriage—an unforgettable and joyful experience. Instead, it has left us both incredibly upset and disheartened. Given the significant difference between what was advertised and the reality of our experience, I am requesting a refund for the 5 unused nights of our stay, and reimbursement for the costs incurred in arranging our early departure.

I am still awaiting a reply from love holidays and a reply from Hotel Mehari
