Very helpful, friendly staff in the lobby!
Pros:

My wife and I just finished our 7 day stay at the Marmara. The service staff deserve a solid 4 star rating and that would bring my grade up to 3.5 stars......but this hotel does not rate 4 stars. They rate themselves a 3 star and that is fair - a solid 3 stars, imo.

The water in this region of St. Petersburg for some reason has a bad smell - when you turn the taps on you smell it right away. When walking to the subway we could also smell the same smell in a few places - and one does not smell that in the centre of the city. My wife has heard people comment on the radio in Moscow that regions of St. Petersburg have bad water. This is not the fault of the hotel.......there is water available for drinking in the hallways - hot or cold, so no lack of drinking water at all.

In booking the room it was stated plainly that there was air conditioning in this class of room - there was no air conditioner, fortunately it was not overly hot while we were there, but we had to have the window open which let in some flying pests but not too many mosquitoes. There was a plug in fan in the room that we did not use - I don't think this counts as an air conditioner..............

Carpeting in the room was quite worn out.......still alright and clean - and the cleaners do a great job cleaning every day.

Breakfast was alright - coffee, tea, apples, oranges, breads and pastries, porridge (thou cold sometimes if you don't get it when it's first served), meats and cheese, yogurt, etc. So not a bad breakfast but much of it that should be served hot is not even warm. But certainly enough that there is ample to eat........

It takes about an hour to get into the center of town on your own (closest metro to Hermitage) about 20 minute walk to the subway and then about 40 minutes with one change in trains. Very easy to navigate the subway system

Pool is quite small but nice - we used the sauna one evening (you have to pay for the sauna, not the pool). Very friendly, helpful staff in the lobby.

Small cozy hotel in silent place
Pros:

Good small hotel. Not expensive and quite comfortable. We stayed there 3 nights: me, my wife and teenager daughter in De Luxe. Breakfast - good but nothing special. Staff - very friendly. Great 200- years old park is in 50 meters. Taxi from/ to he City Center - 15 minutes - Cheap. Except the Park - nothing is in walking distance to see.

EXCELLANT CHOICE FOR YOUR STAY . . .
Pros:

Overall, I give two thumbs-up during my 1 week stay at this Hotel. The Marmara Hotel is located on the out-skirts of Saint Petersburg, City Center is located within waking distance should this interest you. Across the street from the Marmara Hotel, is a nice big park with many trees and few ponds if you care to walk; many local residence utilize this area daily (including myself). I happened to book a suite which was very nice & spacious place with clean rooms, comfortable bed & furniture. Unfortunately, I could not understand what was being said on the TV but there were two flat-screen TV's; one in each room. The Bathroom, Sitting Room and Bedroom were cleaned daily. Hotel also provided to guest daily breakfast which had many different choices of foods or you had opportunity to purchase lunch/dinner in same cafe located on floor zero. If you have a question about the Hotel, just send an email to the Hotel staff and a response will be returned in a timely manner. The Hotel staff were friendly and courteous, should you like a ride to & from LED Airport; just request this in an email to Yana . . . cost is reasonable @ 1200 Rubles each direction.
The only Con I had during my stay was the shower, intermittent cold-water mixed in with the Hot-water; perhaps this is due to my suite being located on the 4th floor.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL FOR BOTH COMFORT AND COST.
