Castello di Spaltenna- Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Castello di Spaltenna may rank as the best overall lodging experience of my life. Perched on a hill in Chianti, you pass a towering line of Italian Cypress on final approach to the one-time monastery. The Front desk snaps to attention. A warm welcome to introduce us to the gorgeous, quiet property and then we climbed stone steps to room nine. From room nine, we enjoyed a birds eye view of the perfectly manicured lawns, sparking pool, grapevines and olive trees. A feeing of gratitude and tranquility overcame us. We took three dinners and a lunch in the trattoria on site. The Breakfast included in our stay was sprawling, diverse, and healthy choices dotted the offerings. “Capoucino the asked each morning”? Yes! Moto Grazie. The spa has decent offerings and our massages exceeded expectations. We walked down the hill to Gaiole for a simple lunch and beer. In under an hour you can be in Sienna and not much further is San Giminano. Our departure this morning was bittersweet. If you stay here, I hope you feel as we did

An incredible stay for anyone who wants to disconnect in pure luxury. Pure beauty and a very detailed luxury hotel.

This hotel is wonderful with beautiful views from the terrace! The only complaint is the number of stairs you have to take if staying on upper floors (no elevator) - my husband has a bad back so that’s a consideration. Also, wish they would accommodate all the guests in the gourmet restaurant as we couldn’t get a reservation during our 2-day stay! Book ahead of time!

Of all the beautiful places we stayed on our Italy trip, this was, hands down our favorite. From the moment we pulled up, we were met by staff to take our luggage and drive us to the reception area for check in.
We were greeted by a friendly staff members, given a tour of the property and information we might need for our stay.
The property is breathtakingly stunning.
Our room was absolutely beautiful and the perfect blend of luxury and rustic, Tuscan charm. The dinner we had at one of their restaurants was incredible and the staff attentive in the best way possible- while allowing us the time to savor the delicious meal, converse and just take in all the beautiful atmosphere.
We booked time together at their Spa, which we enjoyed, and my husband had a relaxing sports massage.
The breakfast in the morning had the greatest variety, attentive staff and quality choices that we have ever experienced.
We can’t recommend Castelló di Spaltenna enough, truly a magical place, nestled in the heart of the Chianti region.

An utterly enchanting escape nestled within the Tuscan hills, Castello di Spaltenna perfectly blends centuries-old charm with modern elegance. The spa and both indoor and outdoor pools are wonderfully indulgent, complemented by serene views across vineyards and olive groves. The Michelin-starred restaurant, Il Pievano, delivers exceptional cuisine under romantic candlelight, while attentive and warm-hearted service adds to every moment.

Each room feels genuinely Tuscan—stone walls, beamed ceilings, cozy fireplaces—all paired with contemporary comforts. Mornings on the breakfast terrace offer breathtaking panoramas that awaken the senses, and the immaculate grounds invite long, relaxing strolls. A magical, unforgettable retreat—we can’t wait to return.

The jacuzzi at the spa was inoperable at the time of our visit. And I certainly needed cleaning. Also, the staff was unusually loud in spite of the fact that there is a specifically written rule stating to keep your voice amplitude down, a whisper. The staff across the entire property was kind and pleasant, however they seemed to lack the type of training a facility such as this would require. Over all the property itself, and its views are stunning. Very quiet and peaceful. But even though the staff were nice, the quality of the service was sub-par. Even though there was a Michelin restaurant on-site, one would expect the quality of the food at the other dining areas to have been at least above average. This was not the case. Breakfast had what tasted like powered eggs, waffles and pancakes were served cold, but the rest of the offerings were acceptable. Every plate we had for dinner was served late and cold. Given the price, it should have been a more complete experience, not one with as many pluses as minuses.

This was the most authentic place I have ever seen really takes back but all the amenities by far the best place to stay in Tuscany IT Fantastic staff 5star

Beautiful hotal located in such a paradise location amazing view very good food. The staff was very nice. The service was amazing. I definitely recommend the place. It’s a beautiful relaxing, gorgeous.

This is truly my favorite place in the world—peaceful, beautiful, and filled with the kindest staff. I’m so glad we found it. I didn’t want to leave and joked with my family that I might just run away and stay forever. The location and scenery are absolutely stunning. We enjoyed fantastic meals during our stay—even though the Michelin-starred restaurant wasn’t open, the other dining options were exceptional.

We stayed here as a family of six, including our two 3-year-olds, and it was by far our favorite place during our time in Italy! The kids absolutely loved swimming in the pools and running around the beautiful property. It felt peaceful, safe, and perfect.

The breakfast was lovely each morning—fresh, delicious, and a relaxing way to start the day. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and taken care of, which made the experience even more special.

We only wish we had stayed longer! We would absolutely come back and highly recommend it to anyone traveling with little ones (or without!).

Beautiful location. Restaurants are first class, but book to avoid disappointment. Hotel building is stunning and the gardens and pool never disappoint.

The property is in a beautiful spot of Tuscany. Not much around it, u need to drive 15 min to find restaurants. However the view is scenic, rooms are clean.
Staff needs to smile, specially the restaurant and bar. The food that the hotel is just ok, the staff not friendly, they counted 12 euros for one scoop of ice cream and when we double checked they said it was correct!
For a 5 star hotel they need to work on the food (we didn’t try their Michelin restaurant), their breakfast bar, their bar and staff!

This is one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. The service was first rate. The views were spectacular. We loved the proximity to the charming little town of Gaiole. Just an absolutely wonderful romantic stay for our honeymoon!. We plan to return next year.

This hotel, spa and vineyard is incredible. The grounds are stunning and the views of Tuscany - simply beautiful. The food is amazing and delicious. The staff - remarkable and so kind. I would definitely recommend if coming to Tuscany and want to visit the Chianti region, this is where to stay and dine. I will be back. Amazing.

Unbelievable hotel. The grounds are beautiful and amenities are some of the best around. The breakfast is the best we’ve ever had at any hotel. The spa access was also a very nice added touch. Cleaning service and staff were outstanding, the best we’ve ever received. Would 100% come back and recommend.

Great spot. Terrace restaurant decent but food was served cold and undercooked. Bar pours a little light.
