Hotel Estheréa

City centre location, lovely hotel

The location was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did not use any of the breakfast offers. There were close by food services available. Being right next to the canal we were able to do a canal cfruise right in front of the hotel

The hotel is beautiful and whimsical, with lovely finishes and attention to detail. It feels like walking into a scene from “Alice in Wonderland”, and the location is terrific… right on a canal that is surprisingly quiet, with little road or late night noise.

The reason for my 3 stars really has to do with the service. From the get-go, nearly all the staff we encountered and engaged with was kind, but incompetent or indifferent. They lost one of our bags that we had checked in earlier (with our other four suitcases that were located together). Pretty much every time we had a question or request of the multiple front desk staff, there was no definitive answer, it was useless or they took no interest in helping us.

The oddest thing about our experience was how prevalent cleaning supplies and activities were. At both check-in and check-out, housekeeping staff was vacuuming the lobby so guests were stepping over the cords and personnel. Every day (and all hours) we saw the vacuum and cleaning supplies next to the elevator. Of course we understand the housekeeping staff works hard and needs access to their equipment, it was just surprising that it was so visible in a luxury hotel. I had also inquired two weeks prior to check-in about a third bed being added to our room (as we had reserved it). It was confirmed as such and yet it was not made up and I had to flag down a housekeeper to do it upon arrival.

One other small thing - but that was annoying - were the glasses in the complimentary lounge area. The water and cookies were lovely, but for the coffee machine, the glasses got so hot and lacked a handle so I nearly burned my fingers while sipping my drink. I did ask for a takeaway cup but was told the hotel doesn’t allow them. Ok fine, how about a tea cup or mug for hot drinks and glasses for water?! Nothing fancy, just a useful vessel for tea or coffee!

All in all, the hotel itself is beautiful and fun in its decor, but for the aforementioned reasons, we won’t be returning.

We stayed here for 5 nights while traveling and loved every minute! The staff all go above and beyond and assist with any taxi service booking, or restaurant reservations. The breakfast is outstanding. The rooms are very comfortable and offer many different options to meet your needs. The decoration is beautiful and artful. There are always treats laid out in the lobby area for guests. Located close to city center, we would highly recommend, and look forward to a future visit!

A charming canal side hotel. Lovely decor and tasty breakfast. Very nice staff throughout the hotel. We would return if we visit Amsterdam again.
