Charming hotel in quaint town, convenient to lakes, MXP airport, and Milan
Pros:

After being canceled by a hotel closer to Malpensa airport the day before arrival, I had to scramble to find an alternative. So glad we stayed here! As mentioned in the description and reviews, this is a 15th century building, full of charm and history, not a modern conference hotel. We stayed in the Casanova suite, which is set on 4 separate tiers with stairs connecting - very unique! We enjoyed meeting Paolo, who shared the hotel and family history, and helped us arrange car service to MXP at 5:30AM - quite a feat during Milan Fashion Week. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the hotel and town.

A Club I want to be part of.
Pros:

It is a unique blend of history with a modern twist.
12 rooms, each one of them with a character and unified by a leitmotif: good taste.
Each room gives you space to work, relax, unwind, rest.
The location is far from any traffic and close to Varese Lake. It offers the right level of tranquillity without being too far removed from the rest of the world: Varese is not far and Malpensa Airport is easy within reach.

Bathrooms are all newly renovated with modern fittings, but without losing the "classic" feeling.

Beds are really comfortable and if you are in need of a sound night of sleep, well this is the place.
Bed linen is of the best quality.

Breakfast is intimate and it has a true "family feeling".

It is served to you with a smile, rather than the copious all you can eat buffets offered by large chains. And the welcoming smile at the breakfast room makes up for anything you may be used to, but that you really don't need.

Toasted bread with jams, croissants, yogurts... And all varieties of coffees .

But with a heart

And this place has a legacy. Family owned for generations it was an intellectual circle where topics like politics, literature, fashion were on the agenda of the intelligenza frequenting the "mai intees" club.

Ah.. I was forgetting .. "Mai Intees" is the local dialect for "never agreeing". And it gives you the idea of the variety of ideologies and beliefs who met there to openly discuss, but never argue

It could be the perfect place to hold a summit...

Not to miss.

Big disappointment
Pros:

The hotel is very run down and in need of a lot of attention. Check-in was chaotic - we literally blocked the road outside the hotel for 5 minutes waiting for someone to open the gate. Breakfast was minimal: a piece of toast each and no fresh bread rolls or croissants - we skipped it entirely the second day. Biggest problem, since we booked this location based on favourable images of the restaurant, was to find on arrival that there was no restaurant. We were told they couldn't get the staff and there was no indication this was a temporary situation. We had to leave the property to find another place for dinner. The description should make it clear there is no longer a restaurant at this location.

A unique hotel
Pros:

We booked three nights at this very different and unique family owned hotel in Azzate, which is very near to Lake Varese. A 15th century family owned and run hotel, set with it's own courtyard and enclosed garden, parking too.

Our room had a high wooden ceiling, lovely old pieces of furniture and the highest quality bed linen, with air conditioning too. The hotel is a cornucopia of interesting and historical items, all set to a back drop of relaxing jazz music.

We decided to eat in the courtyard two nights and were served beautifully cooked Italian food by Paulo (not be missed). A very simple croissant and boiled egg breakfast in the morning.

If you like 'Escape to the Chateau' then you will thoroughly enjoy this experience - if you prefer a corporate bland hotel, then maybe not for you.

Great and unique place
Pros:

Place full of charme ...out of time... we stayed 4 very days 3 nights ...the location is great to visit the lakes and Milan too. Thank you to the very sympathic owner to maintain his house as it is and for his precious cooking. We slept in the Francesca room with terrace view on the peaceful garden. Very pleasant.

A place to write a book
Pros:

For those who want to spend some time in a typical Italian palace from the 15th century and travel back into the glorious old times, the Locanda Dei Mai Intees is the place to be. The hotel and the rooms are superbly furnished, very clean and spacious, and the welcome is as hearty as you can wish. Paolo and his assistant Claudia do everything they can to make you feel home. The kitchen is delicious with simple but refined typical Italian food. No wonder, Paolo learned his art from a great Italian chef. The pasta and especially the Somma Clivo as local red wine is highly recommended. I spend two times a couple of days and nights here on business trips. Next time I stay and write a book.

A really night mare...
Pros:

When I arrived to check in the hotel was close. I tried the contact with hotel by phone but the number in the app was not working. Even the police, that was crossing the place, stopped to see what was happen and the impression of the police about the place was not the best too. I phoned to hotels.com that confirm that was impossible to contact the hotel, but they didn't book another hotel for me. I booked a new hotel (72km of distance - it's the closest for the same type of hotels).

This hotels can't continue to operate. Hotels.com was very unprofessional. I am suing hotels.com for fraud and breach of contract.

Great stay - so helpful
Pros:

This is a very old and beautiful house and family run hotel. The rooms (mine was a suite on three levels) are a modern renovation in-keeping with the style of the house - very different to your "normal" box room one gets in a typical hotel.

Paulo and his mother run the hotel and they were so helpful and easy going. I was there for the UCI World Championships bicycle race and my bike was delivered before I arrived and they looked after it. They made everything so easy as I had a lot of things to do and coming and going early and late.

I didn't eat at the hotel as I was in training for the race but had breakfast which was what I like - basic and simple continental style. If you want a big heavy buffet breakfast you need to go outside.

The cat and dogs were friendly and we have pets also.

In todays world everything is so standardised, uninteresting and does not stand-out. Locanda Mai-Intees is a unique style of hotel run by a family that made me feel very welcome and my trip easy.

This place definitely deserves better owners
Pros:

We selected this hotel as the last stopover on our way back from Nice to Germany to pamper ourselves one last time before our vacation ends. The building is just lovely - it's really like staying in a castle of medieval times. Our room had a high ceiling, large wooden bed and other interior which looked like it has been build hundreds of years ago (and probably was). Fortunately the bathroom was more modern although I'v never seen shower appliances like this before. They looked like taken out of Nemo's Nautilus and thus didn't work properly (which, however, was not a big problem). They have a wonderful lounge area and inner patio all with flowers and old furniture and a smell of antiqueness around it. It could have been a great place to stay - if it weren't for the current owners...

This place definitely deserves better. We got the impression that the current owners (apparantly family-owned) are not really interested in running a hotel. Upon arrival they were more or less suprised that guests showed up although we booked via Booking. We seemed to be the only guests on a Friday night in high season! The welcoming was cool and distant and we were asked if we're planning to stay out late tonight since someone would have to stay awake for us to return. The only other girl working there seems to be afraid of foreigners and looked very unpleased and sometimes bored. Breakfast is a joke consisting of a cup of coffee, toasted pieces of baguette (from the previous day) and some packed jam. I don't know how they got their 4 star rating but to us this isn't comprehensible. Apparently the son of the family is a good chef who serves pricey dishes in a restaurant section of the hotel. However, the entire athmosphere was so strange that we decided to find a pizza place nearby.

Italian charm
Pros:

saw five hotels this summer and this was by far my favorite.

The moment i arrived and was greeted by the owner Paolo and heard sweet jazz tunes playing in the background i knew i was gonna like this place.
Do not expect a perfectly managed and groomed place,it's got more of an old world family run charm.

Room was large and had that same old world charm, like time stood still. But things like the new bathroom and aircon give you all the modernity you need.

The only one who speaks English is Paolo, his staff and lovely mother do not.
Again something i personally liked. His mother explained our options for dinner in Italian and we managed to get everything sorted perfectly.

favorite moment was sitting in the garden with a cold drink and Paolo picking Courgette flowers from his garden en frying them for us[best thing i ate all summer]

Very much recommended if you like old world Italian charm ,we arrived here coming from a 5 star Hilton in Rome, and it felt like a breath of fresh air.

I will certainly try to return for a few days.

history repeating
Pros:

This place is old and beautiful, and its worth to sit in the reception and just look around.
The rooms are from another era, however the bathrooms are modern and comfortable. The corridors are cool and chilly, the rooms however are nice and warm during the winter.
The breakfast area is cosy and good, and so is the cappuccino, toast and fruits.
When coming with a car, be careful: The entry is quite narrow.j

Amazing historical building in a quiet and beutiful location.
Pros:

The hotel is in a very old building, family-run, with peculiar furniture. It is a fortune that there still are people dedicating their time to keep such historical heritage. It must have its costs. Very quiet, spaciuos comfortable cosy rooms. Our was on three levels. The location is nice too, with a beautiful view reaching from the Varese lake to the Monte Rosa in the background. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the veranda, in front of a fire. The food was good and so was the wine, which the owner recommended to us. While the price for the night was OK, the food was not cheap though. Probably we paid for the nice atmosphere in the veranda... OK, understandable. While the breakfast was fine for us (italians happy with a coffee and bread with jam and butter), I can imagine that the quantity and choice we had might not satisfy many. I think in that case one should just ask for more. All in all a very nice experience.

The Night Before Malpensa and the Flight Home
Pros:

This hotel/B&B feels like staying at your grandmothers - both good and bad. The room we had was sizable with a patio. The furniture was on the worn side but might classify as antiques to some of you. The room was clean but not spotless.
The hotel has a restaurant that was expensive and we did not try it as we were not set on a big meal. We did sample some of its food by the bar and thought that for the quality it was overpriced. The cat that wouldn't stop pestering us might be charming to some but was bothersome. I would not return if I can find a better alternative for when I fly out of Milan.

Travel back 500 years.
Pros:

This medieval hotel will bring you back in time. It is a little quirky, but the experience is worth it. The owners and woman at the front desk were friendly and answered all our requests. The beds were comfortable. We even received an excellent private dinner, even though the restaurant was closed. Breakfast was simple, but I wasn't expecting anything more, juice, cappuccino, bread and yogurt. Overall a good experience..

Rooms are ok
Pros:

It's a good place to sleep, nice rooms with old style. Near a hotel it is a beautiful view on a lake and mountains. But for a meal you need to go out side - for a breakfast you can get only a cafe and old bread....

Beautiful property
Pros:

We booked the larger suite. Old building expertly restored. Charming Middle Ages ambiance. The front desk were nice and friendly. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 only because breakfast was deeply disappointing. So you better go for breakfast outside.

Unexpected oasis of old world charm near to Lake
Pros:

This old locanda apparently used to be a small village, though sadly most of the inhabitants have left. The rooms remain large and lofty, the restaurant provides a good repast, and there is a sense of having drifted in to a parallel universe that time forgot. If you are relaxed and in no hurry, this is quite a special experience, distinctly different from the machine organisation of the modern hotel.
