Breakfasts and service very good. Very good selection of breakfast food. Bed extremely comfortable.
The perfumed jar of scented sticks in my room gave me slightly allergic reaction, made me cough and irritated nose. I moved them first to the bathroom but still had problems so I put them outside my room door. I would prefer no scented material present.
Decor. Cleanliness.
Nothing to dislike.
All staff were exceptionally polite, attentive and friendly. Check-in was smooth and the receptionist showed us to our rooms and provided fresh milk for tea. The entire hotel had been extensively renovated recently so everywhere felt fresh and spotlessly clean. There was a good selection of drinks in the bar including unusual craft and keg beers and samples were happily provided. The menu offered plenty of choice and was a pleasant change from the standard fayre found in most pubs and hotels these days. Breakfast was impressive with locally sourced food cooked to order and a range of pastries, fruit and yoghurt on each table.
The decor is a little unusual and might not be to everyone's taste although I found it added to the character of the place.
Very dog friendly. £20 fee but we got a dog bed, blanket, bowls and treats plus sausage for breakfast. Lovely room plus underfloor heating
All good. I was charged an additional £10 for the room rate on top of meals and dog fee. Never had that before when paying in full in booking. Com
It suited our stay in Great Broughton
Staff were placere placet, (that was pushing my old latin classes)
Thank you Keith, Caroline and everyone, you made our funeral-trip bearable.
Lovely place. Spotlessly clean great food and happy helpful staff. Thank you
We visited the café for brunch and had to ask for our order to be taken after waiting for some time. When the drinks eventually arrived, they were cold. From the taste of the tea, it was obvious it hadn’t been made with hot water. Although the staff replaced the drinks, we were told the coffee couldn’t be made any hotter due to the machine, yet the replacement arrived hot, which made that explanation questionable.
The food was equally disappointing. My husband’s smashed avocado was mediocre at best, and my bacon sandwich was very poor. The bacon was hard and clearly either reheated or severely overcooked. While the drinks were removed from the bill, this did little to make up for the overall experience. I expressed my disappointment on leaving, and we will not be returning. Very poor.
The staff here were amazing. Really friendly and helpful. Giving us a lift up to start our coast to coast walk was really appreciated. The food in the restaurant was also the best we had during our 2 week walk.
Recently renovated hotel with very nice rooms and decent pub food in the evening. Also a great breakfast offering.

Almost everything
The bath tap didn’t deliver very hot water so it felt a bit cool from the start.
Everything spotless
Everything new after a refurbishment
