The experience was very nice. We just had a small problem with the hot water, which was immediately fixed on a Sunday. We only think there are two things missing in the house: a toaster for breakfast and a hair dryer. Everything else was amazing, we had a wonderful time in Matera and highly recommend it.

It’s well decorated and clean, the breakfast was nicely in the room. The stuff was kind.
The reception was separated from the room.
The location is amazing right smack in the middle of the historic Stassi region of Matera and the rooms are built into the caves as a result. The breakfast is a large quantity of food that is left on the table and in the fridge. Bread, jams, cereal and cookies on the table. In the fridge, tomatoes, fruit, juice and milk.
Because its the historic district, we had to park in a parking garage that closed by 8p and also needed to pick up the car by 1p the following day because the parking garage closed for Siesta. Also didn't realize that some of the rooms were not near the check-in and had to walk 100 meters (uphill and stairs) to a different location to access the rooms. Its tough for those that are handicap or cannot walk up stairs well.

One can feel the true vibes of Matera city at this property, you literally own a house as a real Materian! Spacious, wood furniture, a nice kitchen, a friendly host, you just need to pack and see this amazing place! There is no parking inside the old town, so plan to park outside. The property is in the heart of the old town. You will probably need one full day to explore it, but definitely stay in Matera.
The bathroom key was missing, but it was not a big deal, we figured out the way of informing each other :D

It was very comfortable for family of 5. There was a small surprise that one space (with one bed) was in some kind of an attic but it was not problematic for us (it was not visible on pictures). Generally great location and easy access. We had to use heating as the appartment was quite big and spacious and November nights was quite chill. Even though we used heating the kitchen was the coldest place. Bathroom very nice and functional, beds comfortable, food for breakfast and coffee provided in the apartment and filled every morning. Room service provided. Helpful and friendly stuff at the reception.

Our stay at the San Giorgio Hotel was a unique cave experience in this very special town. Though small, our cave room (carved out of the rock and once an old chapel) had everything we needed, including a small dining nook. It’s in a perfect central location right in the heart of this ancient picturesque cave town and convenient for bars and restaurants. We walked out directly into the historic hillside sights for which Matera is famous.
The service staff were friendly and efficient, particularly English-speaking Beni who checked us in, helped us carry our luggage and spent time giving us information and answering our questions. Vehicle access to historic Matera is restricted so parking is a challenge in Matera. We prepaid for parking in an off-site garage and also for the shuttle to take us (with bags) to the hotel. It worked perfectly. We recommend everyone make this arrangement beforehand.
Lovely cave hotel. . Great supply of breakfast food etc . Staff were very helpful and informative. Overall a really nice stay . Location great.
