Super cool location. The cave rooms were different and breakfast was very complete with many options. Unique place to stay and will definitely make lasting memories

Right in the heart of the historical city of Matera you will find Cavoso Hotel. We stayed in one of the cave rooms which was much more airy and larger than I expected. The room had everything we needed for a very pleasant stay. The hotel gives you a choice of breakfast in your room or the dining area. We tried both and enjoyed the variety. The view from the hotel is simply stunning with an incredible view of one of the famous stone churches on the hill. All the staff at Hotel Caveoso were helpful and had wonderful tips for dining and touring options. Everything we wanted to see in Matera was within walking distance from the hotel. Overall a wonderful stay.

We made the wrong decision how to get to the property as the instructions about “no steps” is confusing in the English translation. The bed is extremely firm, but I personally liked it, while it was too hard for my wife. Staff who checked us in deserves five stars! Pleasant, efficient, professional, and gave an awesome recommendation for dinner! When leaving, an event was happening in the city with many streets closed in pouring rain. It made it extremely difficult to get back to our car. We had to drag our bags uphill to the parking garage. Kind of soured our experience with this property.

Great quiet location back a street from action. Lovely little hotel, very friendly helpful staff. If you are arriving by car get the hotel to prebook parking with Damascus parking. The shuttle to the hotel is worth every penny.
We stayed in room 3. My only complaint would be regarding the bath. It is tired and needs to be refreshed. There is a mold issue around the tub that needs to be addressed. Also the silver on the mirror has worn off in places.

Located in the Sassi, excellent location.

Aside from the hotel being very nice and comfortable and in a great location, unfortunately we experienced an emergency medical situation that drastically hindered my mobility. They quickly relocated us to a ground floor room as I could not traverse the stairs to our original 2nd floor room, mgmt helped my wife with the luggage while is was in ER and arranged cab service for us from hospital, to pharmacy and back to hotel. They went above and beyond in all regards. A special thanks to Denise who made things much easier for my wife while I was receiving treatment. If in Matera again I will definitely look to book.

Excellent stay- very friendly & professional staff in a beautiful area. Only caveat is getting to the hotel- tough to find a taxi nearby or the small van that services the “Sassi” area.

Hotel.com did not disclose that parking is 10 minute ride away, that it costs up to Euro55. Also not disclosed that there were 30 uneven, steep steps to get to our room and there is no assistance with the luggage. The parking info came one day before arrival on an email from the hotel - at a point where cancellation was not possible.
On the positive side, the included breakfast was great.

Caveoso Hotel is in a brilliant location for exploring the fascinating city of Matera. You’re right in the heart of the Sassi Caveoso, so everything is within walking distance.

The staff were generally friendly, with the younger team members being the most helpful.

If you book a cave room, be prepared for the full cave experience, both the charm and the quirks that come with it. We stayed in a family cave room, which had great atmosphere and decent Wi-Fi. It’s very dark at night (which we liked) and a bit humid, though there was a dehumidifier running throughout our stay — it may have helped and also provided some white noise while sleeping.

The room was cleaned, but there’s always a fine layer of “cave dust” from the walls — part of the experience, we assume. The air conditioning and bathroom could use an update, but they were functional.

Breakfast is simple but satisfactory and can be taken in the reception area, outside courtyards, or in your room.

All in all, it’s more B&B than hotel, but a good base for a few nights in Matera if you're happy with something a bit rustic and authentic.

Wonderful room in a cave. Simple, but beautiful, and made you feel part of the history. Location was right off the main strip near the Santa Maria Church. Breakfast was varied and good. Many restaurants to choose from. Staff was attentive and helpful. Price was a bit high, but worth it. Nice stay.

Un peu déçu dans l ensemble..
Difficile d accès tout en bas des sassi.
Aucune prestation pour nous récupérer ou nous amener au parking payant.
La climatisation tres mauvaise et tres bruyante. Et ne fonctionnait pas dans la salle d eau où il faisait extrêmement chaud et humide. Petit déjeuner a commander la veille..Difficile de savoir de quoi on aura envie!
Du coup pour le prix..bof!

Amazing experience. Must be lived!

The hotel is in a quiet location, yet close to restaurants, tourist attractions, and recreational areas. There's a fair amount of stairs to walk, so it's recommended to pack light.

The room was very clean and exactly what we wanted as it felt. We were staying in one of the caves in great location to wonder of an admire the city.

Such a fun and unique hotel. Around the lower main area and walkable to many historic sites. Not too far from the main strip of Matera
