ACenter Birotel

Отель представляет собой несколько квартир в обычном жилом доме на расстоянии от центра 40-60 минут пешком. Мы жили в квартире состоящей из трех номеров и общего холло с диваном и мини кухней, а та же огромной открытой веранды. В наш приезд во всей квартире мы прживали одни, что было очень удобно. Для компании, особенно молодежной, из 6 человек этот выриант размещения может быть идеальным.

Stayed in this hotel in September 2008 for a three days.

First impression was extremely pleasant. The management was very friendly and guest-oriented. They guided me to my apartment and showed me how to use the appliances as well as jaccuzzi in bathroom. The staff was, all the time during our stay, very helpful and full of willingness to made our stay as much pleasant as it could be. Thanks them again!
Stayed in an apartment Alexandria, which is on the top floor of their building, with nice and lovely intimate balcony with a mountain view.
The apartment was wide, sunny and have very warm atmosphere. During September the chimney is not usable, but nice to see. In a living room we found a DVD home theater system with several DVDs. The lightning in apartment was made in several ways, for any mood.
The cleaning was made every day, like changing the towels, cleaning the whole apartment as well as the nice balcony, where we used to be whole days, almost. In apartment we found candles that was prepared (and we used them) for the balcony. Nice, very nice.
The bathroom was equipped with jaccuzzi with no chance to take shower on your foot, but this was a very new experience for us.
The sleeping in a bedroom was marvelous. Extra good beds, quiet and peaceful environment.

My boyfriend and I travelled to Serbia primarily for the EXIT festival, and stayed in Belgrade for two days either side of our 7 nights in Novi Sad, where the festival is held.

Novi Sad was a beautiful little town, and we ate in a particularly good restaurant named The Amsterdam (fair prices, great service and wonderful food), and drank in a lovely bar called Cuba Libra most often - excellent cocktails!

We arrived at the ACenter apartments the day before the festival began, and first impressions were good - having selected the most expensive apartment (130 Euro per night). The management took both our passports - more on this later.

There was a balcony (overlooked - NOT private as communicated in advance of booking) and a jacuzzi (which didn't work properly), two single beds pushed together (NOT a queen size bed as communicated in advance of booking). The mini bar was very expensive, so we moved all the drinks into an empty cupboard (there was supermarket across the road where very cheap booze could be bought). There were two mini bottles of red wine on a tray, which we assumed were complimentary - however we were charged almost 20 Euro for these when we left a week later. The main door to the apartment (apartment Paris) was shared with the neighbouring apartment Vienna (which was occupied for part of our stay), but to my complete shock the patio style glass door leading up to Apartment Paris didn't lock, as the locking mechanism was bent out of shape having been forced, and obviously had not been repaired. Of course we enquired as to why this was the case but this was part of a long list of enquiries that staff could not answer, with even management not knowing rudimentary spoken English.

Our passports were taken from us when we arrived - and we needed them back to get our festival tickets. The management of Acentre WOULD NOT RETURN OUR DOCUMENTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. We were issued little cards and were promised that this would suffice as ID to the Exit ticket desk and would comply with Serbian law (photo ID to be carried at all times). This of course turned out not to be the case - and in order to get our passports back (after a protracted conversation/argument that went on and on) we had to hand over all our debit and credit cards. This management policy of retaining any essential travel documents was not communicated to us at any time, and having to do without either bank cards or passports was very inconvenient, not to mention when they had our passports we risked arrest by the police, as foreigners withour photographic ID (we were not stopped by the Novi Sad police at all thank goodness).

Via email I was advised that the Acenter building was 10 minutes walk from the campsite near Novi Sad university -- the actual duration of the walk was 30 minutes, and Serbian heat made that sort of distance an impossible journey! The laundry service was slow, and some clothing was not returned to me. Despite having cleaning/housekeeping staff on all day the rooms could only be cleaned in the morning from 10am-12am (any reader familiar with the Exit festival will know that festivities carry on right through to 8am!), despite management's promise via email that rooms could be cleaned daily at any time specified by the guest. As a result the apartment was only cleaned once during our week long stay.

When we checked out we were honestly made to feel like second - even third class citizens. The check out process took 20 minutes - the staff made us wait while they checked over the whole room to see if anything from the minibar had been consumed, and to check the apartment for anything missing (towels, bathrobes etc). I promise you that we were both asked to open our suitcases - we refused of course - but come on, if you can pay 130 Euro per night of accomodation, why would you nick a towel?!

For the most expensive apartment, and considering the duration of our stay, I suppose I expected better treatment. At the very least civil staff and a smooth check out wouod have been nice. My suggestion to any traveller seeking Exit accomodation would be to avoid Acenter Birotel and instead check the festival messageboards/forums, as local people rent out their properties to festival goers. And roll on Exit 2009!
