Hotel El Marqués By GEH Suites

We booked this hotel some months ago when it was run by "Faranda" a trusted brand in Cartagena. The hotel changed hands late last year and reviews started to deteriorate. Dysfunctional with no clear management or leadership of staff. Staff try hard but they are hindered by lack of support or money??. Breakfast a lottery - on various days - no coffee beans for a fresh coffee - no orange juice - no bread for toast... We arrived on our first day to be told we were not staying in the hotel that night due to building work - they put us into another hotel very close by and it was OK but just odd and a pain re. packing and unpacking.
Plenty other choices in the Historic area - choose one of them.

This hotel is not what it used to be and is a total disaster now. We just had our wedding there this past weekend after planning it for more than a year. If it wasn’t for our amazing wedding planner, Eliana Fernandez, and her excellent team, I don’t know what we would have done. When we first signed up for our wedding to be at El Marques, it was a beautiful hotel with Happy Wine Restaurant, a wine cellar to dine in, and a bar where guests could purchase drinks. None of those things are there anymore and we could not believe our eyes when we saw the condition of the hotel when we arrived for our wedding. The ownership and management are terrible and as far as we are concerned, they stole money from us. We paid for services that were not delivered as advertised. We paid for individual glasses of water (because the hotel required it) for each of our guests at the wedding. Later we discovered that we were massively ripped off for this expense because they used water in huge containers that was much cheaper than what we paid for. The maids did a good job cleaning the rooms and some of the staff provided good customer service, especially Yeivis, Yuris, and Carlos. However, other areas of the hotel were damaged and in poor condition, or not accessible at all. There was mold in the rooms because there isn’t proper ventilation. We rented the whole hotel for the wedding and we can honestly say that every room had a musty smell because of the mold. Some doors didn’t fully close, some of the AC units didn’t work properly, etc. Many requests went unanswered. The phone system was broken so you couldn’t call the front desk. Management of the hotel was particularly difficult to work with leading up to the wedding. They did not respond reasonably to our requests and were discourteous to us and our wedding planner. The previous manager, John, was much more helpful and courteous when we first toured the hotel and chose it for our wedding, but sadly, he is no longer there. I think the current ownership and management only care about money and not taking care of their customers or staff. Finally, when we were leaving today, they asked us to pay even more money for things we were totally unaware of after the massive amount we already paid to rent the whole hotel for our wedding. How ridiculous is that? This place is awful and I would never recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful colonial hotel. The staff was amazing, caring always for our safety. They went out of there way to make our stay enjoyable. Rooms clean, food breakfast etc delicious. I would stay there next time.

From the moment we stepped into the lobby at the hotel we knew we had made a great choice. The hotel is perfect in every way, the staff are patient and very helpful. The breakfast was tasty and enjoyable in the sunny courtyard. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone and can’t wait to come back for another holiday.

The experience so far at El Marques Faranda Boutique is been exceptional. I have traveled to many different countries and places and I never felt more welcome and attended like I have here, our receptionist Dylan have taking it to another level of attentiveness, taking care of every single one of our needs and indicating where and what to do. Always checking every detail to make us comfortable and making sure that our experience here was unforgettable.
We were also taken care by Omar and Juan at Happy Wine within the hotel and them too were amazing at making sure that we were happy with our service and they sure made us feel at home. I recommend anyone looking for a boutique experience to book their travels with El Marques. I have never felt more at home, all my wants and needs in this travel experience were achieved. Super happy with the exceptional service and attentiveness to every detail. 100 % recommended, one place I will definitely be coming back.

Hotel Marqués Boutique exceeded our expectations! The staff went above and beyond—special thanks to Wilson for his kindness, Dillan for helping with reservations and great restaurant tips, and Bryan for a warm check-in. Breakfast was fresh with plenty of variety, and the team even prepared an early meal before our tour. Cozy, safe, and full of charm—highly recommend!

Bryan made check-in smooth and welcoming, and the early breakfast team kindly prepared a meal before our tour.

Breakfasts were fresh, varied, and delicious. The hotel itself is cozy and charming, with lovely common areas where we enjoyed relaxing and feeling completely safe.

I found the hotel to be beautiful and at the best location of the city. Rooms were perfectly clean and kept cool and aromatic. As a non Spanish speaking woman with no prior experience of travelling to S. America, I had multiple questions and required advice. The staff generously allowed me to reach out to them with my many questions and patiently addressed them all. Particularly Dylan was more than kind and cordial. So was Valerie. Thank yiu guys. I honestly, could have been happier to have chosen this hotel.

Everything was perfect. The hotel is in a strategic location to visit all the main attractions of the city, both during the day and at night. The property itself is delightful, with a charming colonial style that lets you fully immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of Cartagena. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with impeccable cleanliness. The services are excellent as well: the international breakfast was well-prepared and delicious. A special thanks to the staff, who welcomed and supported us throughout our stay with dedication and an impeccable attitude.

We just arrived from the most memorable vacation in Cartagena! Out stay at the Marquez was excellent in every way from the minute we arrived, until the second we departed. Dylan, Willson, Juan and the whole staff made us feel like Royalty…The facility is not only beautiful as most places in the old city, but what made the stay so special are the people who work there. They helped us plan our stay, activities , tours dinners and transportation every day. Not to mention their delicious breakfast! We would totally use Marquez in our next trip to Cartagena!

We had a wonderful time here with our two kids. The staff were incredibly helpful, offering great suggestions and helping us plan activities outside the hotel. A special thanks to Dylan, who went above and beyond to make our stay truly exceptional.

The hotel is in a great location just steps from great restaurants, shopping, and sightseeing. It looks like they took a beautiful old mansion and turned into an intimate boutique hotel with two courtyards and balconies. The room was luxurious and spacious with a nice mattress and soft sheets. The multi-lingual staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very nice hotel. Cool and clean rooms. Lovely restaurant. Lots of diffent wines. Nice little square. Pitty the common areas, sitting, are not airconditioned, but they sure look nice. Pool is also nice on the very warm and hot days. Location is really perfect. Right in the middle of the old town. Lots of nice roof top bars right around the corner

Wonderful and responsive staff. I felt at home within minutes. There is live music at night in the restaurant from 7pm until 11pm or so. It can be hard to sleep while they are playing but this is a town to stay up late.

I fully recommend hotel el marques in the best portion of Cartagena’s historic area. Hotel was beautiful and the service was even better, Dylon made our stay flawless always anticipating our needs, but everyone in the hotel was amazingly kind. There are great places for shopping and eating near this hotel

Very good service and attention. Even some personalized requests were satisfied. Excellent location in the middle of the old town. Good noise insulation. Concierge service very helpful and attentive. Quality of the food was good. Fresh and tasty fruits.
As opportunities, be more generous and attentive regarding complimentary in-room bottled water, coffee and tea. Wi-Fi very dificient

Absolutely, breath taking property. Staff is so friendly an kind. They really go above & beyond to meet your all wishes. This was our second time staying at this property. One of the best location and street this place resides at. They serve 3 different type of breakfast with beautiful courtyard that overlooks mango tree, winery and beautiful pool. All of the rooms at this hotel are nice and airy. Beddings are very comfortable. Bathrooms are nicely cleaned and kept in mint conditions. Tv comes with Amazon and netflix so it was nice touch to relax after a long walks in the old town streets. We will always be there forever repeat guest.
