Holiday Inn Express - Columbus - Dublin by IHG

For the love of God, book somewhere else ! We chose this hotel because of all the great reviews. We travel a lot and are not picky people, sleep easily and not easily bothered AND we rely heavily on other reviewers before booking as it always served us well. I feel It would be unjust if I didn’t do the same ! Unfortunately, we are not having the same experience here. I’m trying to save everyone else from the same experience . As we are still here at the hotel …I’m writing this review.

First the pros: easy fast friendly check in, hot water and fairly decent room with microwave and fridge, coffee in common area was nice and fresh.

Cons: the walls are super duper thin. You can hear every door slam and footsteps above us (I don’t blame the guests) as we believe the walls and ceilings here are just built very paper thin, OMG, sounded like someone was running and walking back and forth all night above our heads. if you are a light sleeper ..good luck! We are not but yikes I feel for others. We just pushed through it and turned tv up to help drown out the pounding noises. Also when we First stepped into our room after check in , we could not figure out what the heck was the smell in the room ?? We thought.. maybe it’s just smells musty because the AC needs to clear out the room as many hotels need that initial crank up however, the smell continually stayed whe we left and came back . as much as we wanted to ignore , It would not leave the room our entire stay..it smelled like wet dirty socks!

Sadly, We’ve NEVER complained about a single room smell in ANY hotel in the many years of traveling numerous places ..that should tell you something. And to top it off, the 2nd night of our stay here tonight around 9 pm …the fire alarm went off in the entire building! so we all scrambled outside in our pajamas to the hallways as we wondered what the heck was going on! The entire hall way was filled with guests for a few minutes as we all contemplated whether to head to the stairwell and as we decided to proceed downstairs, the alarm STOPPED RINGNG ! No explanation and no announcement from anyone in the hotel . We figured that every person and their mama will be calling down to find out what had happened and if the alarm threat was over to only be greeted by a very rude front desk lady (as if we were wasting her time) with no apology , no explanation ! I basically had to ask her if the threat of the alarm was over like pulling teeth .. when she rudely replied, “ yea” Unbelievable ! Lordy, we have one more night here and it can’t come quick enough !! since we’ve already prepaid for our stay… we will just endure it ..it’s just what it is …don’t want to deal with the hassle of moving rooms or hotels at this point but SAVE YOURSELF the headache and trouble AND BOOK ELSEWHERE!

Breakfast each morning was delicious, location was close to family and frieends

Property was very nice and welcoming

The location was convenient to gas stations and shopping. I traveled to Columbus to have my retirement planning at SERS in downtown and hike to the local waterfalls. I made a weekend of it to go to the Columbus zoo the following day. This location was a nice fit in between all of that. The staff was friendly and helpful when I asked for recommendations of area stores and restaurants. I also like that coffee and tea were available around the clock.

Excellent hot and cold breakfast with large eating space. Make your own pancakes and plenty of non-dairy options. Handicap accessible room on first floor was roomy and modern (even though I'm not handicapped). No screaming kids or doors slamming outside. Friendly guests and front desk staff.

Clean, courteous staff, well kitted out for the price.

It was clean. It was close to our event we came to.
