Pros:

When I first checked in, I was in a room that had a couple issues, notably the AC, wifi and hot water. The owner was able to switch my room the next day to one which had a sea side view and no issues, was greatly appreciated. The area was very walkable to many restaurants and the beach (with a number of stairs and a hill for anyone with accessibility issues)
Super welcoming place with great access to everything I needed!

A short walk from Agia Pelagia beach, and 20mins from Ligaria.
These cosy apartments offer excellent accommodation with everything you would expect for the price.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, and thr rooms are large and clean, our balcony was lovely.
Would very much recommend to a friend.

Great location, Great team, Excellent value
Pros:

This is an excellent location and the team are very very helpful, they could not do enough for us while we were there. If you look at this location and are unsure, book it. its superb value and the site is only 7 minutes from the beach but far enough away to be quite in the evening. It has everything you need, clean rooms, air conditioning, fridge, coffee machine, kettle, small (basic) kitchen. The only criticism is that the rooms are a little tired and need a refresh with some more comfortable furniture and some choice on the mattresses. These were actually new but a little hard for me.

Pros:

NOT FOR SELF CATERERS
Pros:

The location was really good for access to the beach and restaurants. Upgraded to a ‘sea view’ balcony which could have been better if the view wasn’t obstructed by a palm tree. The apartment was very large with 2 twin beds plus a single (beds were very hard). There is a lot of underused space which could have been taken up to improve the so called kitchenette.
The kitchenette was a complete disappointment, no oven, no grill, no toaster, with only a large and a small ring to use for catering purposes. The kettle was a cheap plastic unit that didn’t switch off when boiled and the handle got very hot so you couldn’t pick it up. We asked for a toaster and got a sandwich maker which sort of worked eventually.
Considering that the room could sleep 3, their were a few omissions in the cupboards, ie only one wine glass.
No ironing board or iron, no safe etc.
We did enjoy our stay but really would have liked to cook bacon and eggs for breakfast, with toast.
Maria and Issabella couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly.

Generally clean hotel
Close to the beach, shops, restaurants
Decent family crowd in other rooms
Great views from balcony

Lovely Little Place. Would definitely go back.
Pros:

Myself and my partner were accommodated here at short notice instead of the Irida Apartments after a major blunder by Love Holidays. Receptionist was friendly and efficient and, understanding our dilemma, also offered us the choice of accommodation in it's sister building, The Maria Apartments which was situated nearer to the centre of the town.We opted for The Scala and were pleased to have as it turned out to be a great little place to stay and we were pleased that they could fit us in at such short notice.
We were put into a large room (106) with a sea and town view, which was big enough for 4 people. The room had all the necessary items if you wanted to make your own food including a hob and a fridge. The air conditioning although not hugely effective was adequate to keep the room relatively cool in 30°C heat outside and it was free of charge unlike some places which charge for it. The shower was very efficient and easy to set the temperature. Balcony was huge and benefitted from the afternoon sun and had a great view of the town below. The beds were some of the most comfortable we'd ever slept in. The pool is a little small when compared to some others but seems to be in the sun all day. Because of the size of the pool we opted to go down to the beach every day which is literally a 3-4 minute walk. This has to be one of the most charming bays in the area and the sea was incredibly clear and warm.
WiFi was included free and worked throughout the hotel and in the room.
Hotel is in a great location and was far enough away from the town to be very quiet at night.
Parking was also available outside the hotel if you decided to hire a car, which we did.
A couple of minor points. If you have mobility problems it can be a bit of a climb up to the Scala from the town. The jacuzzi stopped working on day 4 of our stay and still wasn't working when we left. And there was a dreadful smell of excrement right next to our room. There was a small flower bed next to our door and it looked like some of the local cats (dozens of them) had been using the flower bed as a toilet. The heat made the smell even worse. Maybe could have been cleaned out every few days to cure this. I can't help thinking that the hotel staff must have been aware of the smell as they walked past it.
Maybe towels could have been changed more frequently as opposed to every 3 days.
Other than that a great little place to stay in a great location with many positives.
Great room.
Great Staff.
Great Location.
Free WiFi.
Quiet Location.
Big Balcony.
I'd definitely go back if I visit the area again.

Pros:

We are staying for a week and want to say that if you are thinking of staying here or are fortunate enough to have already booked you're in for a treat. Besides the very high standard of cleanliness, very warm and concerned hospitality it is perfectly positioned in the absolutely delightful village of Agia Pelagia. We give Scala an excellent rating.

A warm home coming !
Pros:

A very warm welcome with a cup of coffee, we had a room with a sea view where we were very happy with. It had two separate beds with very good matrasses, not too hard like in most places in Agia Pelagia. And the airconditioner/heater worked well. Most places also have not got any hot water when the sun does not shine, but here there is an electric supply, so you always can have a warm to hot shower. We had a shower above a bath, so we could take both. Our appartment had a seperate, kitchen livingroom bit. With two pit cooker and a fridge. Our Balcony had lovely sunlight in the evening. What in high season will be very nice, because in day time it will be cooler with a nice wind in the evening to cool off. When ever you need something you only had to ask the friendly staff, they would do everything to make you happy! It is a real holiday feeling surrounded by good friends.

Scala is all about location
Pros:

Scala hotel apartments is all about the location. Choose the rooms facing the sea and the beach promenade.
+++
Location
Nice service from Eleni (even prior to arrival)
Nice balconies (choose third floor rooms for a bit of breeze in the evenings)

- - -
Hard beds
Old fashioned bathroom and kitchenette
No microwave

This is a cute, family run establishment. Using the kitchenette for cooking is worthless, but do use it for making your own breakfast, salad lunch etc.
Close to three smaller markets and quite a few restaurants. The village of Agia Pelagia seems quiet except on Sundays for some reason, when the big hotel at the other side of the bay was simply blasting out music. I was told this was an all inclusive mainly visited by Russians. Restaurants seem quite genuine. There is no breakfast at the hotel.
Pool is very small but still good that they could fit one in (it's cool also since it is deep and not in direct sunlight.

Trevligt för en kortare resa
Pros:

Scala means Steps !
Pros:

We chose the Scala for our third week in Crete to be closer to the airport and having never been to Agia Pelagia before. Hospitality and welcome sums up the stay with Isabelle and Eleni faultless.
We had reservations about the pool as it is small and next to the road but when it's nearing 40 degrees it is cool, quite deep and surprisingly accommodating. Our room had a view across Agia Pelagia and due to the hotels location slightly raised above the town, there is often a cooling breeze. For anyone with dodgy knees, there are 50 steps up having left the beach behind, hence, I suspect the name Scala.
There is a bar in reception but not "fully functioning" as a bar so don't expect a choice of beers, wines and spirits. We did enjoy ouzo Fanta lemons and frappes however.
Close to the beach, supermarkets and 17 K from the airport, we thoroughly enjoed our stay.
