This hotel may have been small as advertised but it was anything but small in its charm and service. It lacked absolutely nothing in beautiful attention to detail and top notch service. The grounds and facility were clean and beautifully represented the culture of Chiang Mai. A true test of their excellent service was in the uniqueness of my situation. Unfortunately, I had fallen in Bangkok on my first day in Thailand and was confined to a wheelchair while at the Aruntara. The genuine concern and attention I received was incredible and really, beyond the scope of their job requirements. The staff ensured my comfort by finding a suitable room and helping me navigate getting around the hotel. My circumstance demonstrated how far they went to help me have the best stay in a difficult situation. They arranged for a safe, clear path when the ambulance took me to appointments, helped unpack and put together my wheelchair and adjusted accommodations for our unexpected longer stay. I spent a lot of time in the restaurant as I wasn't able to do any sightseeing. The staff there was respectful and attentive during the hours I spent there. If they were being tested on how to deal with a customer with unique needs, they passed with flying colours! In all, the facility is beautiful and the staff is friendly, welcoming and very accommodating to ensure you will enjoy your time there. Thank you for putting a smile on my face every day during a challenging time for me with my health challenges.
Room was excellent and the view was amazing - the Ping river flows right by and you just sit there watching it. We got the Junior Elephant room and the balcony of this room overlooks a lawn and garden and river is just beyond that. Thank you also for providing the mosquito repellent cream. The service is excellent be it the front desk or the room service or the spa. However one suggestion is to have more coffee machines at breakfast - I saw a customer getting mad at the employees for no fault of theirs. There were only two employees and only one coffee machine which was very slow and could only be operated by the employees. So please have one or two coffee machines which the customers can use on their own! Also it would be great if charging outlets were next the bed!
Lovely 3 night stay with our 6 and 9 year olds. Very friendly and welcoming staff, really delicious food (especially dinner). Hotel was absolutely beautiful and a joy to stay in. Rooms were nice and spacious and well presented. Would definitely recommend.
What a most delightful stay. The location is quiet and peaceful and the facilities excellent. We had a room with balcony and view of the river - the sunrise was great. The staff here were warm, congenial and always seeking to be helpful. On a return visit I would choose the Aruntara again.
A lovely hotel just outside of the old town, which you can reach by taxi quite cheaply & home by red taxi which you flag down. Remember to barter prices even for cabs.
Back to the hotel. It is situated next to the river and is a quiet location. Breakfast is served for 4 1/2 hours with a good choice of foods. Some cooked fresh on your request. The reception staff have been excellent. They helped bring luggage in for us on arrival and have arranged taxis for us and made sure we are getting in the taxi we ordered! An added bonus is afternoon tea, a complimentary mix of little treats to keep you going. Water is plentiful and the mini bar in the room have prices similar to local bars. Room are cleaned daily & are comfortable. Slightly worn in places hence a 4 rather than 5 but generally really happy in our stay here.
Lovely hotel by the Ping river. Just out of town but very easy to get in by taxi. Lovely and quiet and peaceful. Clean linen and comfortable beds. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Great food. Has a spa, gym and pool. Can definitely recommend.
This is a hotel with lots of old-world charm. Service is impeccable. But there are all sorts of steps throughout the property that were not pleasurable for someone with a bad knee facing upcoming surgery. The breakfast buffet was good but the restaurant's offerings for dinner were much better. The pool area is small but provides wonderful outdoor scenery on a canal. The hotel offers complimentary snacks and fresh fruits most afternoons.
The hotel was so peaceful and chilled. Great base for exploring local area and markets. Staff super helpful and food great. Clean and zen like! Beautiful grounds which back onto the River Ping. Would recommend. Novelty having the bath overlooking the bedroom.
Aruntara is a quiet haven wherein we retreated to when we were in Chiang Mai.
My husband and I have been to Chiang Mai before and before we decided to stay within the old city but Dec. 2024, we decided to be away from the noise and be by the riverside and we found Aruntara perfect to what we needed.
-Our deluxe room was very spacious and immaculate.
-Breakfast was on point with very good selection.
-Being by the riverside is absolutely beautiful and relaxing. Quiet which was what we needed.
-Pool is great if you needed it but we were so relaxed and read our books that we really didn't want to do anything else..except for having a beer or gin and tonic.
- Restaurant was good with Thai and Western options. A great go to when we decided to stay in.
What made our stay more memorable was the staff who were warm, friendly and very helpful. We know that we have found a secret paradise in Aruntara hidden in Chiang Mai and we will definitely be staying here again!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
A really quaint boutique hotel on the Ping River in Chiang Mai. There is a oldness that is almost new. This hotel was hit by the big floods but it has been cleaned up. The rooms are interesting. The toilet and shower are in one room, and the sink and tub are in another room.
The Aruntara Riverside was our favourite hotel during our 10 day tour of Thailand. It was an oasis of calm with a real zen factor from the moment you walked through the large wooden doors into the hotel garden. The staff were all wonderful and couldn't do enough to help. The bedrooms (we were in a Deluxe room) were sensational with huge beds and living spaces, and an enormous bathroom and separate shower room. Sitting next to the river for an evening drink and watching the wildlife after a busy day of sightseeing was just wonderful. Good breakfasts in the restaurant and a short taxi ride away (or 20 minute walk) from all of the action in the city centre. Whilst smaller than some of the well known hotel chains in the city, this is a far better choice if you prefer boutique hotels with a much more personalised feel. Thank you for a fantastic stay.
Wonderful stay for 3 nights. This hotel is an oasis of calm in a busy city. The bedrooms are super clean and comfy with air con and a fabulous bathroom. Onsite there is a great pool which my children (13 and 14) loved. The breakfast is buffet style and you can have eggs/pancakes/waffles made for you. We ate at the restaurant onsite one evening and the food is fabulous, the chef is amazing. I recommend the onsite spa for a massage as well. We also enjoyed the cocktails at dinner, expertly mixed - the king island ice tea went down very well ! Friendly and helpful staff.
The most amazing hotel! We stayed in the white elephant suite. I absolutely can not fault this hotel. My partner proposed to me by the river with the help of the amazing porrama (poppy) 10*+ for the hotel and staff we will definitely be back. Thank you all
This hotel looks heavenly in ads but the interior is worn and bathroom fittings moldy. It is kept as clean as is possible but would have needed an update some time ago. On the plus-side: very tranquil garden by a lush stretch of river. Due to a strange layout the pool is situated behind a building wall and so never gets any sun. During our stay I never saw anybody swimming. More could be done with the lovely garden - maybe sun loungers riverside so that people can enjoy the beautiful view? Breakfast is basic, coffee is good. The restaurant, used by few, surprised us with quick and tasty delivery (all dishes prepared to arrive at the same time which is rare for Thailand). You can get Grab delivery from most Chiang Mai restaurants which is also a good option. There is a tiny gym with a treadmill and a crosstrainer.
We booked this thinking we had found a small gem by the river to relax in for a few days. It is not bad but not memorable either. You can do better in Chiang Mai.
Very nice property and room. Close to food and shopping. Staff was helpful at checkin/out and breakfast attendants were kind and attentive. Enjoyed breakfast on the terrace next to the river. Wish we could have stayed longer.
A small & cozy hotel which was located away from the usual crowd. We stayed at The White Elephant Suite at Room 319 and being the best suite, the room was huge. Layout of room was good but needs more lighting especially during the night. Shower was good but water temperature was not consistent.
Friendly servers at restaurant during breakfast.
Variety of food must definitely improve though.
Lovely quiet and comfortable hotel overlooking the river. Enjoyed the breakfasts and appreciated being within walking distance of the old city. Room decor a little dated though, quite dark! Also beds were on a raised platform, posing quite the tripping hazard when staggering around at night to go to the loo! But aside from this, really enjoyed our stay
We
Beautiful place really lovely setting for breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately the bed was too hard (and I like firm beds)
Nice staff. Great for a few days
Comfortable stay with helpful and pleasant staff. A nice view during breakfast next to the river. However, it’s a little far from the centre. A shuttle bus service makes up for this.
