A few months ago, during our visit to Cairo, Egypt, we had the opportunity to stay at this hotel. Although Egypt is a country rich in history and heritage, our stay at this hotel made us realize that honesty and professionalism in the hotel industry here can be extremely low.
The hotel’s location was very far from the airport, the city center, and tourist areas. Due to heavy traffic, it would take nearly half a day just to reach the hotel or get out of it.
While the lobby area looked somewhat attractive, the rooms and facilities were no better than an animal shed. The room had a foul smell, was very cramped, and even the bathroom tap was broken and unusable. Despite informing the hotel staff and our booking agent with photos and videos, no action was taken. Our stay in Cairo felt more like a punishment than a trip.
The hotel staff seemed to have no basic understanding of hospitality. Everything was as disorganized as the city itself. It felt less like a hotel meant for serving tourists and more like a place set up to openly exploit and cheat them.
When such operators, who can’t even provide basic services and hospitality, are allowed to function freely, it reflects poorly on the local administration as well. It seems many hotels operate with the mindset that tourists come only once and won’t return, so they can be exploited as much as possible.
Honesty and ethics seem to have completely disappeared here. Even if the government and administration fail to take action against such exploitative businesses, there is a belief that justice will eventually prevail.
The breakfast provided by the hotel was extremely basic, with very limited variety and poor quality. From any perspective, it is difficult to justify calling this place a hotel.
For tourists visiting for the first time, it is very difficult to avoid such organized scams. No matter how cautious one is, when fraud is systematic and possibly supported by weak administration, thousands of tourists like us fall victim every day.
If there were proper monitoring and accountability from the government and local authorities, such open exploitation would not be encouraged.

This is a good hotel. The food is excellent. But you will not sleep if you take a Junior Suite. The internet does not work in parts of the hotel.
Great hotel.great service.great staff.decent location.good facilities and amenities.good hotel.great people.nice place
Looks good, air con set to boil, no pyramid view, half board food awful. Location looks like a war zone.
The hotel was excellent and all the staff were great & very helpfull
We didn't take long time for check in
I really appreciate their service
I had an excellent stay at Barceló Hotel. The staff were friendly, rooms spotless, food delicious, and facilities outstanding. Perfect location with beautiful views. Highly recommended for comfort and service.
We stayed here twice as part of a tour group and the visits varied quite a bit. The first room was not as good as the second one. It had an awful view over a car park and the shower was terrible.
We tried the Italian restaurant and the restaurant on the 12th floor- neither were good. We actually sent our food back ( something I’ve never done before) on the 12th floor.
The staff all need hospitality training. When at the restaurant upstairs there was nobody greeting guests and i saw four people leave. One young guy was rushing around doing everything.
In the bar you had to find someone to serve you both downstairs and by the pool.
The second room was much better, a superior king maybe .
The lighting needs improvement in the rooms .
The hotel isn’t in a good location, there’s not much in walking distance.
Very nice hotel. Staff were helpful & polite. Great restaurant, great food. Everything was reasonably priced. Our driver Muhammed who took us to the pyramids & the museum & Nile, was a real star, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend hotel.

In general we enjoyed so much.
We enjoyed our stay at the Barceló Cairo Pyramids. We added 3 nights here after a 2 week trip, which included a week on the Nile and Hurghada. The hotel doesn't have a shuttle service but I was able to book my transfer from the airport using a local travel company based in the hotel and was also advised that this company could organise trips for us. A brilliant young man Ahmed Sami was our driver for the whole time we were in Cairo. He also accompanied us around the Giza pyramids so that we wouldn't get lost. On our 1st night, we went to Rooftop 7000 for dinner, I would thoroughly recommend this trip, go at dusk, to see the sun setting behind the pyramids, and amazing food and views. The following day we went to the Grand Egyptian Museum followed by the Giza pyramids and the Sphinx and on our last day we went to Saladin's Citadel, the Museum of Civilisation and Old Cairo. On both day tours, we had Ahmed for the whole day, and we could have gone shopping and/or out for a meal, but we were too tired.
There are distant views of the pyramids from the upper floors of this hotel. There was a good buffet breakfast with all the usual international foods as well as some local fayre. We ate at Nefertari and Sphinx restaurants on a couple of evenings when we were too tired to go out again. Both were good.
The road in front of the hotel is currently cordoned off for works related to a new metro line in Cairo. This will be a great addition to this hotel. In the meantime it did not detract from our stay
