Asterias Village: Another Outstanding Stay in a Perfect Location
Pros:

Loved it so much we came back. This was our second stay at Asterias Village, and it was just as impressive as the first. Set in the hills of Piskopiano, the location is outstanding, with an excellent range of restaurants, bars, and shops within easy reach.

The hotel was exceptionally clean, and the staff were amazing, friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. We felt completely safe in the area, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

Asterias Village went above and beyond by upgrading our room. They remembered our first visit and surprised us with a beautiful balcony room overlooking the pool, which we truly did not expect. The beer was great, the weather was hot, and overall the stay was fantastic.

Highly recommended.

A Week in Crete
Pros:

We spent the last week of October at the Asterias Village in Piskopiano the first day was a spanking 30 degrees of lovely sunshine. The place itself was nicely appointed, it looked a bit worn around the edges, paint damaged on doors, broken tiles in places. The room was ok, apart from the single beds and we were on our honeymoon. The shower blocked at one point and toaster packed up but all were sorted quickly. The pool and sun bathing area were good and the poolside bar/ cafe ok.
Restaurant for breakfast was good, staff were splendid, really polite, helpful and went beyond their duties to be helpful at times.
The two biggest problems were;
The 66 steep, very steep steps up the middle of the complex which you couldn’t really avoid.
Second problem wasn’t the resorts fault it was simply the time of year, a lot if the surrounding restaurants and bars had closed which meant we were a bit limited for choice but as I say that wasn’t the resorts fault.
Overall we enjoyed our stay there and thought the staff helped to make it a great place.

Good but could be better
Pros:

Let's start with the good points. A great pool area, great breakfast, helpful staff, very clean and a good location with plenty of restaurants close by.
(when you'd got your breath back from the hike up the steps).
Not so good points, 62 steps down from the road to reception and obviously the same every time you wanted to go out, so not for the infirm. (although to be fair, they will fetch you suitcases down and take them back up for you when you leave.)
We paid extra for an apt with a sea view and kitchenette, we could only see the sea if we sat on the patio, the room had two small windows, one in the bedroom and one at the front, so it was dark. The bedroom was modern with a flat screen TV but the other room (the lounge) had two more single beds in it plus a small table and three chairs, no sofa and nowhere comfortable to sit. I felt the extra charge for "an apartment " was excessive for what you got. (No toaster, no microvave)
So, after all this, would I go back?
Probably not. Piskopiano is a lovely spot, but with the vast choice of accommodation available in the area, I think there are better places to choose from. Sorry Asterias.

Pleasant
Pros:

Was transferred to Asterias as the other apartments Piskopiano village would close midway through our holiday. Our flight was a late one so arriving at the apartments was around 1.30 am, was shocked at the amount of stairs to go down just to get to reception, at least 50 and quite steep.
Checked in then was shown where our apartment was, omg up a very steep incline. Not good if you have mobility issues, certainly got a cardio workout! Wasn't happy with apartment 120 for various reasons, no sun, couldn't see out the kitchen window, etc etc. got the room changed a couple of days later in the main blocked. So much nicer thanks to the reception staff who made it possible. Outside pool area is really nice, Nikos in the bar, late afternoon & evening is very pleasant and played good music. We would probably go and stay again but would email ahead to request where you would prefer to stay.

Asterias Village resort, Koutouloufari.
Pros:

Obversations are based on our stay in a superior sea view room on the top floor (road entrance) in October 2025 :
LOCATION ; Coach transfer from the airport took approx 25 minutes although we were first drop off. The hotel position is excellent, situated in between Koutouloufari and Piskopiano, tavernas and supermarkets within 20 metres of the entrance, walk 20 minutes and you are in Hersonissos old town which is a charming little square and well worth a short walk. A 20 minute downhill walk from Koutouloufari and you are in the main stretch of Hersonissos with the port and everything else associated with a busy resort. The hotel provides a free return 8 seater shuttle bus into Hersonissos every day at 11am, 3pm and 6pm which is a very nice thought yet I cant help but wonder if it would be better served running every 2 hours from 10am until 8pm with maybe a small €1-2 per person fee so it becomes less costly for the hotel and more usable for the guests. I hope the management can consider and maybe trial this idea. The shuttle bus was in need of an internal clean and some internal maintenance, a taxi one way is €10.
ROOM : Ours was smart and modern, lovely view, seperate shower room and bathroom, good drainage and no flooding or puddling in the shower room and the water pressure was consistent, condiments supplied were also good quality. The shower cubicle could do with a shelf because there is no where to put your stuff except for the floor, I hope the management take note. The room in general also lacked wall hooks, storage was good but there were no drawers. A free fridge, free A/C and free safe were provided. BBC world news on the TV, a kettle and pod coffee machine is in the room with complimentary teas and coffees upon arrival but these are not replenished during your stay.
The balcony was an adequate size for 2 people with a table and 2 chairs and a wall mounted clothes airer, the dividing wall between next door was only 1 metre high and offered no privacy, this could be easily fixed and I hope the management take note.
POOL AREA : Very smart with enough sun loungers during our stay in October but I wonder how this compares in high season, the sun loungers are good with many mattrass style and some in totally shaded areas too, pool bar pricing and daytime food options were very good although the vegetarian options were very limited, not every vegetarian wants salad every day ! I hope the management take note.
The pool bar dining area also doubles up as the breakfast room and it is on the small side so I wonder what this would be like in high season, outdoor dining is limited compared to indoors. Buffet breakfast choices are excellent with continental and hot food options and everything was replenished constantly.
A lot of reviews have mentioned the on site masseuse, our experience was that he was expensive and a little pushy around the pool touting for business, we said no twice and then he actually woke up my partner on her sun lounger to ask yet again if she would like a massage whilst I was not present and she was a little uncomfortable by this approach.
We went to the beach in Stalis and had a massage there for half the price of the hotel. The beach in Stalis is lovely, pure sand a gentle 25 metre slope into the sea and you are still only chest deep, no pebbles or rocks and lots of beachside bars etc, a good day out, about 15-25 minutes on the local bus depending on the traffic for €2 per person each way or €15 in a taxi
GENERAL : WIFI is good and consistent in all areas of the hotel, rooms are cleaned every day and towels and sheets changed every other day, tourist tax is €10 per room per night payable upon arrival, pool towels are available for a €10 refundable deposit, lots of reading books in the reception if required, all staff are friendly and the hotel is very clean, 60 steps from the road entrance down to the reception and pool but you can also walk down a little side road if the steps are a problem but with either option you have to come back up ! Leave your luggage at the top of the steps when you arrive and someone will take them to your room. Overall this is a very good hotel in an excellent spot, we never went into Hersonissos in the evening because there is more than enough choice on your doorstep, it isnt a rowdy location and there are no macdonalds or karaoke bars or quiz nights etc thank goodness, it is very traditional greek and we would certainly recommend it.

Great holiday at Asterias Village
Pros:

Just back from the Asterias Village Resort. Located between two nice villages. On a hill giving a lovely view but lots of steps within the complex alternatively there is a walkable slope but not recommended for those with mobility issues. Received upgraded room on arrival, hotel has free transport down to Hersonissos - nice touch. Very clean, and rooms serviced every day. Nice pool, although slippery and lots of sun beds. TV channels in English very limited with only news channels no entertainment channels. Good choice at breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful.
Complex contains highly recommended Nautilus Spa with Michael providing excellent therapeutic/relaxing massages, resolving long term muscle strains expertly and with great care.
Area has lots of lovely tavernas and restaurants. Great holiday, would recommend.

Great place to stay.
Pros:

Great place to stay and relax.
Really nice pool area in a lovely setting.
Special thanks goes to Michael in the Nautilus Spa, for a really good massage to my back.
And also to Nikos in the bar, who's local knowledge is invaluable when deciding to eat at the many excellent Tavernas locally. The only downside is the slope, up and down to get to the well appointed apartments.

Room 27
Pros:

We had a lovely stay at the Asterias and would recommend it to anyone except those with restrictive mobility issues (being slightly unfit shouldn't affect your stay though) due to the stairs. Decor-wise, I would say the room was average rather than basic; for what we paid, I certainly wasn't expecting the same standard as a boutique hotel but I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the bedroom, living area (two extra beds and a dining table with chairs), and especially the sea view terrace. The bed was firm and comfortable. The kitchenette was decently equipped with a microwave, hob, coffee machine, fridge, freezer, toaster and the usual tableware. The communal areas are lovely. I loved the pool area as the layout was certainly more creative than your bog standard rectangular pool with a load of rickety sunbeds squashed around it. The sunbeds, canopies and beanbags gave the pool area a contemporary, stylish look. We only ate at the pool bar on the last day - we had a hamburger and chicken burger, both of which were tasty and a good price. The bathroom was compact thus leading to a lack of a sufficiently enclosed shower, but I've been going to various Greek destinations for over 30 years and the fact that the temperature was consistent with adjustable water pressure compensated for this fact. The rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels/bed linen. Air con is included in your stay. The shuttle bus to Hersonissos is another great perk, especially if you don't want to battle the hill in high temperatures. The location is great, koutouloufari to one side, Piskopiano to the other. All in all, a lovely complex with great staff. Would definitely stay again.

Fantastic find.
Pros:

I first visited piskpino Crete 35 years ago for my honeymoon, so we wanted to go back on our 35th anniversary. The little village has changed so much, and yet still retains its charm and relaxed atmosphere. Lovely restaurant and taverns, Patrikos and Evines also the guys at the Irish bar . Great places for food and drink. The Asterias village hotel and apartments is a gem of a find, lovely staff great pool area and location is fantastic. However if you have any mobility issues, maybe not a great pick because of the steps that lead you to the main areas. We stayed in number 33 which was tastefully decorated with all that you need for comfort, also the internet service is great and free. Clean and friendly. You can also enjoy a massage from Michael who is very good . I definitely would recommend this accommodation and area also great safe place for solo travellers. I genuinely can't say enough how nice this place is . Top 5 day break. I will be back next year ..

Perfect Greek getaway
Pros:

Resort had 60 steps from the road to the reception. So bear that in mind when booking. It was worth the climbs because the resort itself was fabulous. Large clean relaxing pool area. Spotless breakfast and evening meal restaurants. Staff were helpful and efficient, nothing was a problem. Rooms were adequate and regularly cleaned. All in all,a perfect relaxing holiday.

Challenging stairs!
Pros:

We stayed at the Asterias for 2 nights, returning on Monday 15th September. We were dropped off outside the Hotel but had to walk down apx 60 steps to get to the Hotel Reception, anyone with mobility issues should not consider this Hotel as there are no lifts. The Reception was clean, bright and welcoming and although the rooms were basic they were perfectly adequate and clean. The shower head needed to be pointed towards the window wall to avoid flooding the bathroom but on the positive side the pressure was good. Breakfast was adequate, the fruit was sliced but not chopped and the eggs were disappointing but the yoghurt was exceptional. All of the staff were happy and helpful especially Nikos on the pool bar. The only toilets for use by the pool, bar and restaurant are in Reception which is n issue at peak times as there is only one Gents and one Ladies. Overall the village is pretty with plenty of bars and lovely restaurants, just mind those stairs!

Lovely holiday but not 4 star
Pros:

The hotel was recommended to us as we wanted to stay in Koutouloufari. We arrived late in the evening and the staff were waiting for us and were lovely. All the staff were lovely. The pool area was lovely too always clean and we could always get a bed.
It was our room I was a little disappointed with. We stayed in room 26, sea view is gorgeous and overlooking the pool area. But for a 4 star hotel I thought it wasn't maintained as it should be. There was a leak under the kitchen sink with a colander there to catch the drips, the wall was rotting so the smell was unpleasant. The bathroom was tatty. The woodwork around the door was also rotting and there was black mould in the corner behind the door. I believe there are rooms that have been upgraded not sure if they are more expensive. For what we paid for a room only basis I think we paid too much. Not a 4 star in my opinion.

Decent hotel but room for improvements
Pros:

My husband and I stayed here for 11 nights. Overall we had a pleasant stay, its a decent hotel but has areas to improve to earn its 4 star rating. The good bits:
Staff- all very friendly and helpful
Location- really good location in between the two villages
Michael's massages at Nautilus Spa (although he could do with a proper treatment room vs the open tent by the main stairs)
Pool area- very clean, lots of loungers (if you visit in September when the kids leave)
Dinner- Good options and most dishes were nice.
Drinks reasonably priced.

The bad bits:
The toilets in reception were not as clean as they should have been- bins with toilet tissue overflowing alot of the time.
Outdated dysfunctional bathrooms- like others have said, there is no shower door so the entire bathroom floods and you need towels to mop it up or its very slippery.
Pool music- repetitive playlists and very loud..not relaxing..
The slope going into the pool is dangerous as the tiles are extremely slippery- I saw so many people nearly fall over/fall over
The breakfast was OK but the same each day- would benefit from an omelette station and better quality fruit juice.

The back of the hotel looking out to sea is an eye sore- dumped piles of rubble/bricks and wasted space..could do with a tidy up.

Nice place to stay
Pros:

We had a lovely holiday and did a enjoy our stay at this hotel, but there are a few things that could do with improving, starting with the shower which does not have a door to fully enclose it and it flooded the bathroom every single time we used it! The rooms were clean but very outdated and could do with a refurb. The hotel is in a good location if you enjoy walking to different areas near by and is also quiet in the evenings. The pool area was our favourite thing about the hotel, it was clean and had enough sun-beds that we didn’t struggle to get one at any time (but this might of been dependent on the time of year we went). Food at pool bar was decent and drinks were okay price. If you don’t like stairs or have mobility issues do not book this place, you will struggle. All staff were nice that we spoke to. I do think the rating of a 4* is slightly generous due the condition of the rooms but other than that, thanks for a wonderful stay!

A relaxing break
Pros:

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Asterias Village and had a lovely time. The pool area is fantastic with the comfiest sunbeds and beanbags. If you wanted to get a prime spot round the pool you did have to be up fairly early to put your towels out though. The pool isn’t massive and as it was school holidays it did get fairly busy in the pool, as we got to the end of our holiday a lot of kids were going home so it did get much quieter. The breakfast was good and there was always something for my fussy daughter. The pool bar/restaurant was also really good with a good menu and reasonable prices.
We were in room 103 which was fairly close to the pool so was handy for nipping back if you needed to. It wasn’t a refurbished room and was very basic but was clean although we did have an issue with ants in the main bedroom. I found the beds ok to sleep on but my husband didn’t sleep great as he said the mattress was too soft.
The bathroom was the main issue as the shower head was tiny but sprayed everywhere so you couldn’t help but get the whole bathroom soaked and the tiles were slippy. They only have one small shower screen which divided the shower and toilet. We had to use extra towels every night on the floor to mop up the water. The water was very temperamental too, it was either luke warm or boiling hot. There was a fridge in the room plus a kettle and coffee machine with mugs but no washing up facilities so you’d have to use the sink in the bathroom. I know a Greek 4* is different to a uk 4* but I’d say these rooms would only be a 2/3*
I’d hope in future they could refurbish all the rooms so they’re at the same standard as the rest of the hotel. It wouldn’t put me off coming back to Asterias as we loved the pool area but I’d definitely pay for an upgraded room if we were to book again. I also loved that there were quite a few cats round the hotel and I did end up feeding a couple that would pass our room.
Overall we had great holiday and loved the villages and all the restaurant choices. Asterias is in the perfect location for venturing between them.

Fantastic location!
Pros:

We really enjoyed our holiday at Asterias Village. The pool area was really clean and modern, with a variety of sun loungers which were plentiful. The staff were great and helpful. Breakfast was nice with lots of choice, but popular items such as fresh fruit ran out quickly and took a while to be replenished. We had a one bed apartment with a sea view. The sea view was fabulous and my place to escape and relax with a coffee or a beer. The apartment could have done with a revamp. The shower flooded the bathroom like a wet room, although it wasn’t supposed to be a wet room, which made it unusable for an hour or so afterwards due to a soaking wet floor and slippery. Additionally, one of the plug sockets was coming away from the wall which I should have booked out, but after reception informed me they do not have 24/7 maintenance available one evening when the air con was leaking, I decided to ignore the issue and reported it on check out instead. Overall, a lovely place to stay in a great location. A couple of issues with the apartment wouldn’t put me off booking Asterias Village for my next holiday.

Great hotel in a lovely location.
Pros:

This is our third year coming to Crete and staying at Asterias village. It is in a fabulous location, with plenty of tavernas on the door step.
The staff at Asterias are really friendly and welcoming and are happy to help. It was my birthday and they surprised me with a bottle of wine in the room. We had some issues with the electrics in the room and they were able to sort it out very quickly.
We were in a room at the top with great views ( we didn’t mind the steps).
The whole hotel and pool area was spotless clean and room was cleaned daily to very high standards. There were plenty of sun loungers to go around.
We will miss Nikos the barman who makes you feel very welcome.
Big thanks also to Nathan the Jet2 Rep who was a genuinely nice guy, very friendly and helpful with booking trips and tips and places to visit with our rental car.
We look forward to coming back again and would definitely book Asterias village again.

Beautiful location & perfect accommodation
Pros:

Overall, I’m happy we stayed here. The location was ideal-so many tavernas on the doorstep & an easy walk into town.
Our room had everything we needed & a beautiful view.
A few tiny niggles-the receptionist telling us off for carrying our suitcases down 60 steps as he’d have to help us get them back up (no idea we could leave them at the top), the no inflatables in the pool rule bothered me. Is it a proper holiday without a lilo? And the pool man told my children off for jumping in (despite ignoring other older people doing it).
I’d probably look for a slightly friendlier vibe but would love to go back to this area again.
