A great Hotel in a wonderful location next to Hagley Park. it was convenient to the centre of Christchurch. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.
The breakfast was very good as was the meal we had in the restaurant in the evening.
The cheese scones at the bar were excellent.
We enjoyed The George quite a bit and would return. Rooms are very stylish and comfortable, although a little smaller than we were expecting given the photos online. Service was terrific. Parking was astonishingly easy for a city hotel. The onsite, free laundry was very much appreciated. My husband said breakfast was good, but I didn't want to spend so much because I am not a big breakfast eater. There is nowhere very close by to just get a coffee. I wish there had been an option for a small breakfast at the hotel.
An amazing night out. Staff attentive, menu small but perfect variety. Meals were all presented beautifully and tasted very good. The handmade ravioli perfect as to the lamb.
We ordered sides … but not really needed. Seasonal vegetables a hit. The salad probably too oily in its dressing - but a hit cos of the roasted walnuts! Amazing crunch!
Puddings beautiful and not a let down!
But using my arcane system of grading??? The clincher was the really well maintained toilets with spare rolls artfully arranged in each stall. An attention to detail that speaks volumes about the staff and the standard set.
Very well done!
We found our stay to be perfect in every way.
Location is opposite the Botanical Gardens (great place to walk), near CBD, shopping and many good restaurant choices.
Hotel is modern and comfortable, room we stayed in was a Park Suite (good size, plenty of natural light, excellent bathroom, excellent storage space and comfortable lounge area)
Breakfast was very good with multiple choices and good friendly service.
Laundry area was excellent and free, 2 washers/3 dryers.
Turndown service was appreciated and the addition of “George the bear” kept us smiling, throughout our stay.
Restaurant was very good and dishes also available in lounge (great tastes)
Everything about this hotel is quality and best of all are the people that work there, they make your stay special.
The George will be our 1st choice when we next return to Christchurch, see you soon.
This is very nice hotel in Christchurch - rooms were spacious and well equipped. Very luxurious overall. Staff very friendly - we arrived early and our room was ready - they had umbrellas for us as it was raining that day - near a Tram stop - but really within walking distance of most of the things we were interested in. Breakfast was very nice - quick ride to the airport - overall highly recommended.
The biggest and best asset at the George are the staff, from the moment you walk in the door they go out of their way to ensure you are treated special and they personally want you to have the best time possible, so refreshing to be treated as a valuable customer. The George is a home away from home. I always am made to feel like I am one of their family. Brilliant every stay is memorable,
Everything was exceptional and wonderful! The staff were very excellent and attentive. The food at the restaurant was most delicious! The location was perfect for the plans I had for the days I stayed. It is also in walking distance to the Botanical Garden, which was wonderful, as this way I was able to still go there even though I arrived pretty late at the hotel.
Great hotel! Great food! Guest laundry machines for complimentary use! Only a half glass shower wall, creating water flow on floor. Small bathroom counter space. Otherwise very comfortable room! And free teddy bear & chocolate each night!
The George is a wonderful place to stay in Christchurch, ideally located just minutes from the city center and the Botanical Gardens.
Our room was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully appointed, offering a relaxing place to unwind after a day of exploring.
The highlight of our stay was the restaurant. Both the service and the food were exceptional—each dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, making for a truly memorable dining experience.
One small touch that stood out was the turn-down service on our first evening, when housekeeping left a charming teddy bear in our room—a simple but delightful detail that made the stay feel especially warm and personal.
The George is an elegant boutique hotel that delivers both comfort and quality. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Christchurch.
I stayed at the George after three weeks of continuous excursions rarely sleeping in the same bed twice. I chose this for proximity to Hagley park/Botanical Gardens and you should as well. The location is superb, the staff was very friendly (OK most people in New Zealand seem to fit this bill) and very accommodating. The bed was the best I slept in the whole trip.
We spent 3 nights here in mid March. Free parking was great and easy. The location is excellent for walking in the park, the botanic garden, boats on the Avon and a 15 min walk to most dining and shopping.
The room was very comfortable and we used the washing machine one morning. Free to use and powder available.
We ate dinner one night in the bar and drinks and snacks one afternoon. The quality was really good and the service was also top notch.
Definitely a great spot in Christchurch. It was fun to see the city on the rebound.
Great location. Love that the park is right there and Botanic Gardens - lovely to walk around the endless paths around the park.
The hotel is located just across the road from Hagley Park North. It’s a rather tranquil spot and the guests can benefit from the well-tended garden at the back. It takes about 15 minutes leisurely walk to get to the centre of the city, less to the botanical gardens.
The reception was an informal desk on the right side of the spacious lobby. Check-in was very friendly and efficient. On the left was a bar and further down, the restaurant.
Our Premium Executive Room was of good size, with large bed, plenty of seating and huge wardrobe containing the safety box. There were tea and coffee-making facilities.
WiFi signal was good. Good selection of TV channels.
Bathroom was of decent size with a walk-in shower and great water pressure.
Bathrobes and good-quality slippers were provided.
Dining room had quality menu although we decided to stick with the bar offerings.
Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and the gift of a teddy bear was a lovely touch.
An extremely nice hotel with excellent staff. We only had one night but enjoyed a wonderful meal in the restaurant and loved the turndown surprise!
First class hotel with excellent restaurant. Staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. Lots of little extra touches made our stay feel very special
Hotel was in a good walkable location and the room was fine with a nice size bathroom and shower, however our room was next to an adjoining room and you could literally hear EVERY SINGLE WORD coming from the people in the room next to us, even with ear plugs, as we were trying to sleep. Also, we could not get the mini split to put out heat. Service at the hotel was excellent but they need to make those walls thicker for sound proofing. It’s not what you would expect from a luxury hotel and represented a poor value for us.
A very well located hotel near the park and the Arts Centre. Very comfortable and spacious rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent restaurant!
Location is perfect, walking distance to botanical gardens, great restaurants and services. The hotel atmosphere and decor is very nice, welcome drinks on arrival and to go breakfast provided for those with early departures. The staff are very welcoming. Free laundry after 2.5 weeks of campervanning was a nice perk, and the gym has everything you could need! The king size bed was actually 2 twins pushed together, so the hump in the middle doesn’t make for the best nights sleep but if we were in a room with a different bed I wouldn’t have any complaints at all. Still highly recommend the George do your Christchurch stay.
Excellent stay - upgraded our room to the Park Suite which was well worth the money. This is our second visit and again everything was first class - Location, Service and Staff.
This is an amazing boutique hotel.
Perfectly located a short walk (or handy tram ride) from the centre and on the edge of the park for tranquility.
The rooms are a decent size and have everything you could want and are spotlessly clean. The turn down and housekeeping team are excellent and we loved the gift of the George Bear - a real momento from our stay.
The concierge team are brilliantly helpful and very humourous.
If I could improve one thing it would be to get bigger driers int he free to use laundry - but that really is nit picking!
