Great location. Love that the park is right there and Botanic Gardens - lovely to walk around the endless paths around the park.
The hotel is located just across the road from Hagley Park North. It’s a rather tranquil spot and the guests can benefit from the well-tended garden at the back. It takes about 15 minutes leisurely walk to get to the centre of the city, less to the botanical gardens.
The reception was an informal desk on the right side of the spacious lobby. Check-in was very friendly and efficient. On the left was a bar and further down, the restaurant.
Our Premium Executive Room was of good size, with large bed, plenty of seating and huge wardrobe containing the safety box. There were tea and coffee-making facilities.
WiFi signal was good. Good selection of TV channels.
Bathroom was of decent size with a walk-in shower and great water pressure.
Bathrobes and good-quality slippers were provided.
Dining room had quality menu although we decided to stick with the bar offerings.
Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and the gift of a teddy bear was a lovely touch.
An extremely nice hotel with excellent staff. We only had one night but enjoyed a wonderful meal in the restaurant and loved the turndown surprise!
First class hotel with excellent restaurant. Staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. Lots of little extra touches made our stay feel very special
Hotel was in a good walkable location and the room was fine with a nice size bathroom and shower, however our room was next to an adjoining room and you could literally hear EVERY SINGLE WORD coming from the people in the room next to us, even with ear plugs, as we were trying to sleep. Also, we could not get the mini split to put out heat. Service at the hotel was excellent but they need to make those walls thicker for sound proofing. It’s not what you would expect from a luxury hotel and represented a poor value for us.
A very well located hotel near the park and the Arts Centre. Very comfortable and spacious rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent restaurant!
Location is perfect, walking distance to botanical gardens, great restaurants and services. The hotel atmosphere and decor is very nice, welcome drinks on arrival and to go breakfast provided for those with early departures. The staff are very welcoming. Free laundry after 2.5 weeks of campervanning was a nice perk, and the gym has everything you could need! The king size bed was actually 2 twins pushed together, so the hump in the middle doesn’t make for the best nights sleep but if we were in a room with a different bed I wouldn’t have any complaints at all. Still highly recommend the George do your Christchurch stay.
Excellent stay - upgraded our room to the Park Suite which was well worth the money. This is our second visit and again everything was first class - Location, Service and Staff.
This is an amazing boutique hotel.
Perfectly located a short walk (or handy tram ride) from the centre and on the edge of the park for tranquility.
The rooms are a decent size and have everything you could want and are spotlessly clean. The turn down and housekeeping team are excellent and we loved the gift of the George Bear - a real momento from our stay.
The concierge team are brilliantly helpful and very humourous.
If I could improve one thing it would be to get bigger driers int he free to use laundry - but that really is nit picking!
Our room was a beautiful suite but at the price charged I thought it was showing some wear. The bed was huge, the mattress and linens very nice.
I was surprised on the charge slip they asked for a tip which is not standard in New Zealand.
Breakfast buffet was average and was exactly the same 2 days in a row.
Loction was fine, parking was tight.
Pleasant one night stay before getting Tranzalpine train
Apart from fire alarm at 3am, nothing serious found
Complimentary breakfast given
Chic modern smart hotel. Immaculate well appointed rooms. Good food in the onsite restaurant. Charming helpful staff.
A great hotel overall but special mention must go to Matt on Reception who helped us out with a couple of things. Excellent customer service!
As soon as we walked into The George Hotel we were greeted by a very friendly staff. Without exception all the staff is very accommodating and want your experience at The George to be the best. Our room was large with comfortable beds, plenty of closet space, a nice bathroom with heated floors and warm towel racks. The food was topnotch. Each morning we ate breakfast in the dining room. At night we would choose between the main dining room and the tapas tables in the bar. One we arrived and settled in our room, we ventured to the nearby Willow Bank Wildlife Reserve. The next morning we traveled to Akaroa for a nature cruise, as well as, a visit to the Giant's House. The location of the hotel allows for easy access to nearby activities. It's also a short drive to the airport. We would highly recommend The George Hotel for a great Christchurch visit.
I expected more from this hotel for the price. Pros: great location across from a park, free self-service laundry, wonderful staff, nice
balcony. Cons: tired/dated building, tiny rooms (we stayed in at least 7 NZ hotels on this trip and this was the smallest of all), glass bathroom door which offers no privacy. We did love Christchurch.
Absolute pleasure to stay in this hotel, great staff + room, they did an evening turn down, left a chocolate + a teddy bear to take home.
Fabulous bed + facilities.
Directly opposite Hagley park which is free + a joy.
If i could give this hotel 11 stars i would.
Another great experience.
The George has it all: staff service, location, and quality room accommodations. We were very pleased with our recent stay. Staff went above and beyond to help us out w some issues due to lost luggage.
Fantasic hotel. I'm of a fan of 99% of SLH's and this one is right up there. Warmly greeted when we got there. Room was cozy and spacious. I love a place that provides FREE washers and driers for clothes. The food was fantastic.
We had a lovely room on the 5th floor and it was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and very efficient. Overall a great stay.
The George again didn't disappoint - fantastic service, amazing food and stunning rooms with lovey gardens and so close to the centre of the City. 10/10 - keep it up team!!!
