Harbour Square Hotel

We were staying at the harbour house hotel so we could attend my so sons wedding . The hotel is ideal situated right in the heart of hermanus with everything on the door . The views from the pool and look out terrace are fantastic .
There is very good underground parking
The rooms are very large and the sea view rooms are fantastic but you need to be on the second or third floor .
The breakfast was very good also and all the Staff were very friendly and accommodating .
My only issue is that my partner was recovering from a broken leg and the hotel is not very disability friendly . Although there is direct access to the lift from the parking area . If you go from reception you have to go up 8 steps then down 7 steps to get to the lift .
The bathroom is very good but again not got if you have walking problems the showers are very slippery and there is no hand rail in them they also need anti slip mats this could easily be rectified .

We love this waterfront hotel in so many ways. The staff are wonderful, the views spectacular and the breakfast good. The bedroom was well appointed and the bed extremely comfortable. The linens are wonderful and sofa, sea view balcony with table and chairs absolutely perfect.

The reason for the imperfect score is the lack of accessibility. There is a lift from the excellent underground car park to the bedrooms BUT to get to reception from the bedrooms you either have to be able to manage two flights of stairs plus a very awkward bottom stair OR be wheeled up the very steep car park ramp.

Unfortunately, the lift was broken for more than 24 hours during our stay, a disaster for a wheelchair user.

Then there’s the bathroom: The flooring is marble and lethally slippery even for an able bodied person. I don’t know how I didn’t fall over. The shower isn’t a walk in shower and is corner opening - the worst for someone with limited mobility. There is nothing to hold onto! No rails, nothing, and a very slippery floor.

I’m surprised that the owner’s haven’t understood the level of risk they’re carrying with these bathrooms. A bathroom injury would be very expensive to resolve.

I would cautiously recommend this hotel but not to anybody with even the slightest mobility issue.

Great stay at this hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The apartment was well appointed, clean and comfortable; the location was excellent and the breakfast very tasty.

I turned up at the hotel with high expectations and was left with shattered dreams.
We were given a room and it was above the hotel car park and right on the front main road with a balcony that was within touching distance of the parked cars off the main road. The view was basically of the main high street at floor level of the road. Bearing in mind the hotel has spectacular views and lovely rooms in this part and the other parts of the hotel.
When we were put in the room we asked if we could change and basically after a lot of wasted time (2 hours) no we couldn’t move. I explained it was our 43 rd wedding anniversary but it fell on deaf ears.
There are 3 rooms together at this level of the hotel.
We woke up in the morning to the sound of the dustbin men it’s the closest I have ever been to the dustbin collection
The breakfast was nice the waiters and staff at breakfast nice to.
Make sure you get a towel for the pool when you enter because I couldn’t get one in the morning.
The pool was nice and the scenery spectacular
You may think my review is harsh but if you are spending a lot of money on a once in a life time holiday and end up in this room I promise you, you wouldn’t stay in This room if you could book another hotel
So what I would say to this hotel , is do the decent thing and advertise these rooms for what they are
So make sure that you don’t fall into my trap and end up very dissatisfied and disappointed

The location is outstanding with breathtaking views, two ladies at reception were fabulous, helpful and always had a smile.

Good location. We were in the annex above the underground car park so had to walk to the main part for drink food etc. Room was ok, bed could have been a little more comfortable. Lovely terrace.
Plenty of choice at breakfast. Jams and marmalade etc bit rustic and quite bitter. One small criticism is the expectation of tipping. Tip box in the room, reference to it at breakfast etc. I believe if the service is good, which it was, then people will tip without the need for reminding.

Really easy booking and super comfortable room with excellent service. Really helpful staff and very good breakfast. Do visit!

Booked a stay via Trailfinders in UK as part of our two week holiday in South Africa. The quality of service, accommodation, food, facilities and location were excellent in every way.

Should we visit South Africa again and wished to stay in her Hermanus we would definitely choose this hotel again.

The second time we have stayed here. Very central and great view of the bay. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the afternoon tea and scones was a nice touch.

A nice Place to stay because its very central located, near to important places in Hermanus. The Romantic Rooms are very nice and near to the poolarea.

Great location on the waterfront. Friendly and efficient staff. Stayed for 3 nights as part of a golf tour. Only slight issue was the lack of air con. The fan provided was too noisy for us to use at night.

We stayed in the Harbour Square rooms for just one night. It wasn’t clear that you need to check in at the Harbour House hotel across the road. A passer by pointed us in the right direction.
Our room was quite small but extremely clean and comfy. Secure underground parking is provided. The breakfast was excellent. We were also provided with a complimentary drink on arrival plus tea and scones. Excellent touches that make a real difference. All the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is superbly positioned in the heart of the town overlooking the sea.

We were welcomed with a very friendly receptionist who checked us in. Booked a trip for us. Our room was gorgeous and comfiest bed and bathrobes. Beautiful view. Welcome drink. Afternoon tea and scones. Loved it. Thank you.

Lovely location, room, service and breakfast. Close to amenities. Altogether an excellent experience.

With a great location looking out over the ocean, the hotel is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Hermanus. The quality of the rooms and service is very good and all areas are either easily accessible by walking or a short drive. Highly recommended.

We had a really bad service compared to other hotels in SA. the bathroom need some maintenance it’s not up to date. Breakfast was okay. But staff was unfriendly

We had a wonderful stay and best of all I was able to take my little Yorkie.
Delicious breakfast and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Wonderful position overlooking the Old Harbour. Especially lying at the pool and gazing out at the sea.

Great location, couldn't be better really. Breakfasts were decent fare, if not spectacular. Service all round was attentive. Beautiful terrace, garden, and pool overlooking the bay. The room was comfortable and modern, with all the necessaries. The bed was a bit short (but this is only a concern if you're 1.9m +).

Great position for coastal view plus the Garden front pool. Staff very attentive and the food quality was excellent.
Our Room 3 was lovely with a sea view balcony and hot tub. Lack of aircon in the Room effected sleep quality as the Free Standing fan was too noisy to use at night.
The afternoon cream tea was a lovely gesture.
