We had a great time at solaria this June. The team were super welcoming, the food was varied and the entertainment team did a great job at keeping everyone busy. Would definitely recommend the hotel to any couple wanting a relaxing experience.

We arrived very late to the hotel (after midnight)
We were checked in by a very helpful staff member and taken to our beautiful sea view room.

The entertainment staff were very friendly and engaging with all members of my family. Great activities. The hotel was great. Clean with good food choice.

We are generally very easily pleased, low maintenance guests & we don’t ask for much when on holiday.
We have our own business in the hospitality sector so understand how tough it can be. However I have to give a very honest review of this hotel.
It is not a true 5 star hotel, perhaps it is by Tunisian standards but not by others.

The Positives
The cleanliness was very good, housekeeping did a great job & the majority of staff who were very friendly & helpful.
I had a full body massage in the spa which was really good.
The foam party in the pool was great fun.

The Negatives
The hotel is rather run down. It needs some work, including the pool area flooring & pool wall surround (covered in certain areas underwater with what looks like black mould but not sure if it is) & the rooms which are a little tired.

Around the pool we felt hassled every day by people wanting to sell you henna tattoos, excursions, hair braids, take part in activities, photographer, it can be a little tiresome when you are trying to relax. It must have been at least 10+ times per day. I appreciate people need to earn a living but it was too much.
Don’t get me started when leaving the hotel & how much hassle you get. This review is only related to the hotel.

The slide should be on from 10-12 but on two mornings we had to ask for it to be switched on, eventually it was at 10:35. Only a small thing but it’s not difficult to make sure these things happen when they should.

Food was ok, snack bar very limited options.
The restaurant has a pasta station which to be fair was tasty however I watched the chef cook prawns & spaghetti in it for someone else & then proceeded to cook my daughters plain tomato
pasta in it without so much as a wipe of the pan, my daughter doesn’t have a seafood allergy but many people do. It’s just poor hygiene practice.
As many others have mentioned there aren’t enough tongs/serving spoons so everything is being cross contaminated. I feel for anyone that does have an allergy visiting this hotel.

We tried to book the Italian restaurant on a few occasions but it was always full, you also had to locate a head waiter in order to try & book which was a little inconvenient. We tried to book one-two days in advance but was told they could only do Monday evening which was 4 days later & we were no longer going to be there.

Drink choice & quality are quite poor.
The alcoholic drinks are so strong that it spoils the taste of them, you can barely taste any mixer. I asked for Baileys one night which is an extra cost but they didn’t have any despite it being on the menu.

The beach is ok but lots of litter on it, which is a shame as it’s private to the hotel so someone should be cleaning it, it doesn’t create a good impression.

The room was fine, a little dated. When we arrived our safe was still locked from previous guests so we had to get maintenance to come & reset it so we could use it.
The hairdryer in the bathroom was very poor, old & not powerful at all. Took forever to dry my hair. Had I known I would have taken my own.

I am truly surprised at how many 5 star reviews this hotel has to be honest. It does make you question if they are all genuine.
It pains me to write a negative review but there were just too many things that I couldn’t turn a blind eye too.

Overall we made the most of our holiday as the weather was stunning but we certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel or visit again.

As a disabled traveller location was very good... central to Medina and marina...plenty of shops and places to eat and drink. You can join in activities around pool or u can find more relaxing areas to sit..from day one we were made welcome by staff.... Picasso the henna man was a great help he was so kind and genuine...he help myself and my husband in many ways. The animation team were about...but the one that stands out the most was Aladdin he always brightened our day...full of energy and a laugh...also the boys selling trips were helpful...we went on a trip and had assistance from staff. When we got to hotel asked about iron...when we got to room we had iron and a ironing bored...didn't need to keep asking(unusual)...girls on reception very helpful. Been to many hotels in Tunisia over the years and can honestly say this is the best for location..food ...staff etc...thanx solaria
