Location fab, rooms spacious, hot tub was delightful. Restaurant area was nice.
Food was great but menu was limited as there was both dinner and casual (eg club sandwich, burger) on same menu. Therefore eating dinner there twice wouldn’t be too fun. Also so many outside lights all night was a shame as chose location to see northern lights. They appeared but couldn’t see them with naked eye due to all the lights .
It was very spaced out and modern
Nothing!
We stayed at Hotel Grímsborgir for three nights in a superior room. The staff were very friendly, and both the grounds and the accommodation were extremely well maintained. However, we did feel the photos were misleading, as they suggested the room had its own private kitchen and sitting area. In reality, these facilities are shared with other guests in the building. The kitchen also lacked basic items such as cups and plates, which made it largely redundant. Breakfast was a standard hotel offering with something to suit most tastes. Overall, it’s a good location for exploring the sights around Selfoss.
We had a lovely stay at Hotel Grimsborgir. We are a family of 4 (kids are 11 and 8) and we were upgraded on arrival to make sure we had adjoining rooms. The rooms themselves are clean, modern and spacious and underfloor heating throughout meant we were always warm enough. The geothermal hot tub was very comfortable and reception agreed to heat it up earlier in the day on request.
The breakfasts were delicious, as were two evening dinners that we had in the restaurant. The hotel is well located as a base to visit the sights in the Golden Circle and we saw the northern lights while we were staying thanks to a 1am wake up call from reception!
Staff were always cheerful and helpful. My wife unfortunately had an accident while we were out on a glacier during our stay and staff were very helpful with a few requests we had to ask for help with before we left, including providing an early breakfast package to take with us for our early morning flight home.
All in all a very pleasant experience and we would highly recommend.
We enjoyed the location, it’s secluded so you are close to nature. Good place for northern lights. They do wake up calls if there is aurora (only if you wish), also they will inform you during dinner if it’s visible so that you can rush out and marvel at it. There is too much light everywhere in the hotel to watch them properly (there are lights on the rooms’ balconies that cannot be turned off), but there is a dirt path dedicated for aurora spotters, so when it appears, you just walk 5min on that path and darkness surrounds you :)
The hot tubs were one of the main factors why we chose this hotel. I read that there were 28-29 of them. However, many of these belong to specific rooms. The public ones, that can be used by guests who book in cheaper rooms, are two per block (14 rooms). So roughly 1 per 7 rooms. We never met anyone else in the hot tubs and the reason might have been that all of them were unbearably hot (41C). The water seems to come directly from hot springs, hence it is not possible to adjust its temperature.
Ruhig und schön
Der laute Kühlschrank im Zimmer
Good choices for breakfast.
The front desk staff was a little unfriendly. However, one young man went out of his way to help us with a fan to cool the room. The room was too hot. Smokers on the patio below prevented us from using the deck or opening windows some of the time.
The rooms were comfortable with nice amenities (toiletries, robes/slippers.) We loved the hot tubs! Very peaceful setting.
Good continental breakfast, hot tub outside, close to Golden Circle
A bit tight
The staff were amazing, often going above and beyond! Andrijana really stood out, Thank you for ensuring our trip was special!
The room and hot tub was great, clean and held to a high standard, thank you!
Everything was perfect .We had deluxe house which were immaculately clean and comfortable. We ate at the restaurant and the food and coctails were greate ! We had to have a late check-out and it was no problem.I recommend this hotel 100 %
Il miglior hotel del nostro viaggio in Islanda. Tutto perfetto, ottima colazione, letto comodo e un bel ristorante. E’ presente il servizio di sveglia per vedere l’aurora.
Location, hot tub, cozy rooms.
Despite being close to golden circle, Local guides won’t pick up from here unless you book a private tour, which is much more expensive. If you’re willing to self drive it’s perfect and a much cheaper option for sightseeing - check weather reports ahead of time as conditions change fast.
Although the hotel can be reached by transfer from the airport (about 1 hour) I would recommend car hire from the airport as a lot of tours do not pick up from here and a private company charged eye watering fees!
The room was clean with tea making facilities and tv and with its own balcony although the balconies are not separated presumably so that you can reach the hotel tubs located outside. The wood floor outside on the balcony and around the hot tubs was very slippery so take care. Our room had a shower over a bath.
The breakfast was good and well replenished. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The bar area is small and nuts/crisps have to be purchased from reception.
The hotel is situated fairly close to several attractions and the scenery along the routes is quite stunning and different landscapes. I would enjoy going back to Iceland during more daylight times and to another part
