Super breakfast, nice relaxing hot tub.
Comfortable and well-maintained hotel that is centrally located for visiting the Golden Circle. Excellent breakfast with plenty of options for vegetarians. Spacious rooms. Each small group of rooms is in a separate building with its own hot tub, so it’s very easy to use the hot tub in the evening. Staff were friendly and responsive to requests.
This was a very nice stay. The rooms were spacious, clean, modern, bright, and comfortable. The breakfast was unusually fresh and tasty; the same each day but a good variety. It was a large-ish hotel but never felt crowded. We were spaced out in various small buildings. There was ample parking and beautiful natural surroundings. We never had to wait for a table at meals. Our small building had 8 rooms and two hot tubs. The blackout curtains were minimally adequate to block out the midnight sun, but we still benefitted from the eyeshades we brought. This is a minor complaint, but we wish they automatically provided extra towels for the hot tub- each day we had to ask them to provide some. The location was about 15 minutes from the town of Selfoss where there were many dining options (we highly recommend the Old Dairy food hall!).
The bedroom was exceptional. Really beautifully done, and meticulously clean.
The restaurant was quite spartan. It could have had a nice view, but the cars were all parked in front of the windows. The room lacked character. Charging high prices for bare tables and paper serviettes.
The bedroom view was also a bit odd. “Mountain view” was actually about 5 metres to the bushes opposite. Had we been on top floor it would have been great.
La dimensione della camera.
Accoglienza priva di cortesia e rigida su orari di checkin e ristorante. Posizione isolata. Camera De Luxe ma lenzuola letto grossolane ed assenza caffettiera con capsule in stanza.
Clean, convenient to sights, very good breakfast options
No fire pits
The rooms looked brand new and were spotless and comfortable. We arrived late after a long day, so did not get to eat in the restaurant except for breakfast, but the food and selection on the breakfast buffet were very good. We also had just come from Laugaras Lagoon so didn't use the very convenient hot tub. It's a convenient location for visiting this part of the Golden Circle and reasonably priced. I would definitely go back!
PROS: Scenic location convenient to Selfoss and exploring the south coast. Our deluxe room was large and clean. Each building has a handful of rooms leading up to an inside common area and outdoor hot tub(s) shared by the occupants of that lodge. I could see this set up making your trip better or worse depending on the other guests in your building. Our stay was quiet. The buffet breakfast at the hotel was good.
CONS: We share the view of other reviewers that our room was too warm with no way to effectively control that. We did not sleep well here as a result. The bed and pillows were also on the firm side.
If you arrive in an EV, know that the hotel charges 3000 ISK (about $25) "per charge." This is not only high for a level 2 charger in Iceland but it’s unbefitting a hotel at this price point. (Many hotels in Iceland offer complimentary charging for their guests, including at least three other accommodations I can think of in the vicinity.)
Finally (and most importantly), although the hotel has a reputation as a luxury hotel, you get the distinct impression from the minute you walk in that the workers here are unhappy and can’t be bothered. It's a palpable level of misery (not sure if the issue is the staff or the management but it instantly takes the whole place down a few notches). Very few people smile or engage the guests in any way. (The exception was one friendlier guy at breakfast.)
We had just stayed at Hotel Rangá for two nights, we left with happy hearts after the exceptionell service with a smile and outstanding food. Next stop 2 nights at Grimsborgir. This was a completely different experience. From the moment we entered the reception until leaving we were met with coldness, stone faced staff and completely lack of interest to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. It was a weird feeling and it just hit home how a friendly smile will go a long way to make guests feel welcome and wanted. Grimsborgir staff was unfortunately the only people we met who showed no interest to make our stay memorable. It was memorable but not in the way it should be. So sorry to write this negative comment but meeting so many upbeat, proud of your country people we were sailing through it all loving every minute until Grimsborgir.
L'hotel se trouve dans un très beau cadre.Nous avons pu prendre un bain nordique devant le pavillon et c'était top. Super petit déjeuner.
C'était le meilleur hotel de notre road trip.
