My wife and I just had an unforgettable stay at the adults only,Sunset Resort Rarotonga, and we can't recommend it enough. From the moment we were picked up from the airport, we were greeted with warm "Kia Orana" smile, beautiful flower lei that smelt amazing and at the hotel the reception staff were welcoming & the exceptional hospitality that continued throughout our entire vacation.
The Location: The Sunset Resort
is situated on Rarotonga's western ‘sunset’ coast, and located at Ara Tapu,
Arorangi Rarotonga, absolute beachfront on a stunning blue lagoon. Set amidst majestic palm trees and lush tropical gardens. Watching the beautiful sunset lying in a hammock sipping a cocktail was hard to take but someone's got to do it.
The Room: We stayed in a pool view Villa, looking out on the pool & lush tropical gardens. The room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully furnished a modern island aesthetic. We loved the thoughtful touches like a well-equipped kitchenette, air conditioning and a private porch with loungers. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful sleep every night.
Service & Amenities: The staff truly made this a five-star experience. They were attentive, friendly, and always went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed the poolside bar called 'bird cage' that served up delicious cocktails & the on-site restaurant 'Anchorage' and bar served up delicious food & drinks. We had the continental breakfast included which was fresh. Two pools to choose from & blue lagoon to cool off in. The grounds are immaculately maintained, adding to the serene atmosphere.
Overall: If you are seeking a luxurious, and truly relaxing escape, this is the place. It delivered on every promise and exceeded all our expectations. We can't wait to return to this little slice of heaven! Meitaki ma'ata (thank you very much) to the entire team for a wonderful stay.
Outstanding absolutely Outstanding 💯 The facilities are immaculate .. grounds are well maintained. Location is paradise and the staff are like a family. I couldn't recommend this beautiful resort highly enough and have booked again for next year.
This was our 4th visit to the Sunset Resort and it’s still the amazing resort we remember from our last visit in 2013. The staff were amazing as they made sure everything was going right and if we needed anything…check-in was quick and easy and we were escorted down to our fantastic room. Next morning we went up to the Anchorage restaurant for morning breakfast with the other guests. Great way to start our day. The resort has 2 pools, and an amazing beach with plenty of loungers and even hammocks in the trees where you have no choice but to relax. We went into town and obtained our drivers licences in order to rent scooters which are the best way to go around the Island. Lots of great restaurants and shops but even better, amazing people and scenery. The food at the Anchorage Restaurant was fantastic and our servers were so hospitable and friendly. Always had smiles and a warm greeting and service for their clients. All of the guests were so friendly and it was great chatting with everyone. happy hour was at the Birdcage bar and they served some very good drinks. We look forward to visiting again in the future but until then, thank you for such an amazing visit.
Our 3rd stay at Sunset once again we had a lovely stay.
My husband and good friend stayed here last week, it was 12 years since we last visited. The resort is so calming and relaxing on the waters edge, Swimming in the sea was lovely as you could see exactly what your feet were standing on, which I love. Two amazing swimming pools but one is for the less mobile of us and a joy to get in and out of. Our rooms were just as comfy as home and ooooodles of towels which is great when you have 4 people in on apartment. Bathroom was a wet room and a walled seat to sit on (I'm scared of showers on the wall) which really suited me. Easy access into Averua and bus stop right outside the resort. The food was quite nice but plenty of restaurants within walking distance to vary your meals. Very friendly helpful staff. It was our friends first visit to Raro and she adored it and would come straight back to this resort when returning. We wont leave it 12 years to return ourselves. It is a wonderful resort for disabled travellers and there are no children allowed under 15.
Wow, wow, wow - Our beach front accommodation was perfect, peaceful, very clean & was well stocked with everything we needed. Breathtaking sun sets, whale watching, black pearl demonstration, relaxing in the hammocks, strolling along the beach, swim in one of the two pools or just sitting relaxing watching the waves crash over into the lagoon - the list goes on. We used the restaurant a number of times for breakfast & dinner - the staff are so friendly & accommodating, the food was excellent. Live music topped off a couple of the nights (one being a barbecue night). Staff at reception were also very friendly & helpful with organizing a night out for a cultural experience & any local info needed. Highly recommend Sunset Resort for its location, especially if you can get the beachfront accommodation.
This is the place you want to stay when you come to Rarotonga! Not only is the private beach incredibly beautiful but so is the entire resort. The rooms are impeccably clean every morning. The food and drinks are amazing, even better they’re more than happy for you to take them to the beach and sit in the hammocks. Don’t even get me started on the front desk staff. The front of house team are incredibly kind, welcoming, supportive, the list could go on. The cleaners, the chefs, the waiters, the reception team, the gardeners…..there is not one fault in any of these people. The place is kept so pristine!
Do not look any further if you’re wanting a relaxing holiday in the Cook Islands!
Great priced option on sunset side of rarotonga. Good included breakfast. Free wifi. Great bar and two swimming pools.
Restaurant is good and they have themed nights.
Adults + teens only so much quieter than other resorts.
Reception staff are very good and welcoming.
Direct beach access.
Close to other resorts and restaurants for other di ing options. Bakery directly across the road.
Only negative would be to have more shade around the main pool.
Have stayed here several times.
Had an amazing time here. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There are two pools to chose from and the beach is right there as well. Rooms are great with air conditioning in the lounge and each bedroom. Onsite restaurant was fantastic with themed nights and live music throughout the week. Would definitely come back to stay again!
Had a great stay friendly staff memorable holiday
We went down to the Aisian night At the restaurant we had a lovely meal Entree bbq chicken wings delicious/ bang bang prawns/ main sweet and sour chicken and Chiefs stir fry. Very tasty great staff friendly compliments to the chiefs
The minute we arrived the friendliness of all staff mad us so welcome. The reception staff, house keeping and the restaurant and bar staff, all were amazing. Centrally located easy bus trip to town.
A bit of snorkeling right off the beach.
Saw whales most afternoons.
Very clean.
Super friendly staff.
Our room had full kitchen facilities.
Very basic breakfast included - can buy a hot one if you want.
Sunset Resort is very clean and staff are helpful. We enjoyed both swimming pools but the lagoon was too rough to swim there. We really liked the Anchorage Restaurant on site. There were excellent choices for vegetarians on the menu and the staff there were amazing. Our room was comfortable but only had a power socket on one side of the bed. In this day and age we found this very unusual. We also enjoyed the beautifully kept gardens. It wasn't too noisy but we could definitely hear the traffic on the main road behind the Resort. All in all a good experience but not a great one. Would probably stay again.
Another fabulous stay with Kevin, Cath and the team. All of the staff were lovely, very helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The staff definitely made our stay the enjoyable experience that it was. Thankfully my mistake with our booking was able to be resolved easily.
Our 2 bedroom room was clean and tidy, well appointed and was a great size for two couples.
The swimming pool areas were beautiful and the area down by the beach was a lovely way to pass a few hours soaking up some sun. The swim in the lagoon was a great place to swim amongst the fish.
The resort is very handy to town and the airport.
A lovely little family run resort with the friendliest and most helpful staff we have come across in Rarotonga. Beautifully kept gardens surround the resort and the rooms were very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The restaurant, The Anchorage, was the best food we had on the island with the most attentive staff.
Right on a beautiful beach with loungers, chairs and hammocks.
An absolutely great and relaxing resort that's well worth a stay.
Thoroughly recommended.
Great place, excellent staff, laid back and friendly. Good location and excellent waterfront
Awesome place to stay. Staff are wonderful. Food, cocktails and rooms are great. Right by the beach with hammocks to watch the whales and swim. Will definately come back here again.
6 couple trip for a 60th birthday.
Lovely adults-only (15yrs +) resort with great facilities and beach access. Very clean and well-appointed rooms, two pools, good restaurant and happy hour bar. On the beach with a beautiful view across the lagoon and amazing sunsets. Watched whales cruising past off-shore and snorkeled in the lagoon. Near to a couple of good restaurants, the local brewery, and a bakery. Bus stops outside and there are scooters for hire as well.
Great service by the friendly team, can’t recommend this place highly enough!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had the most incredible 10-day stay at Sunset Resort – easily one of the best travel experiences we've had! From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely went above and beyond to ensure our comfort throughout our holiday.
The room was spotless and immaculately cleaned daily by the fantastic housekeeping team, and we appreciated the in-room compendium that made settling in effortless. The entire resort is beautifully maintained – the grounds are manicured daily, creating a lush and peaceful atmosphere.
We especially loved The Anchorage Restaurant – the meals were delicious, well-priced, and always served with a smile. The Birdcage Bar became our go-to for happy hour, and the adults-only setting of the resort made it the perfect place to unwind and recharge.
We visited several other resorts during our trip for meals or drinks, and none of them came close to matching the experience we had at Sunset. And of course, the name says it all – the sunsets each evening were absolutely magical.
Huge thanks to Kevin and the entire team for making our stay so memorable. We can't wait to return!
