Heaven on the Hillside
Pros:

The cave experience was spectacular. Once you get past the quirkiness, the millions of steps and the candles, this place is unbelievable and well worth the time and money.
Excellent location in Old Matera, super friendly staff, insanely good breakfast and the most comfortable beds ever!

A truly unique stay in a fascinating town
Pros:

This was a unique and very fun property, perfectly located in one of the cave neighborhoods. The staff was wonderfully helpful. The room was well equipped, comfortable, and splendidly strange.

Cons:

The room was, appropriately, rather dark, and I sometimes struggled to locate items in my suitcase. But really, more lighting would have broken the mood.

Vivre l'expérience troglodyte avec le confort moderne
Pros:

Nous avons réservé une grande chambre troglodyte, qui était encore plus belle que ce à quoi je m'attendais. A notre arrivée, les bougies et les luminaires produisaient une lumière douce et romantique ; nous étions tout de suite plongés dans ce bel univers. J'avais vraiment envie de vivre cette expérience de dormir dans une grotte, à l'instar de milliers d'autres humains avant nous, et nous avons adoré. Le personnel est aux petits soins, très aimable et prévenant. Le petit-déjeuner buffet est fantastique, les produits sont de grande qualité et très diversifiés. Il est proposé dans une grotte lui aussi. Les grottes de Sextantio sont situées un peu à l'écart de la zone touristique, mais ce n'est pas un problème quand on aime marcher (et c'est préférable pour visiter Matera, car on se perd vite dans les ruelles !). Le plus : le service de parking et navette proposé, qui permet de ne pas se soucier de cette logistique.

Cons:

Contrairement à ce que j'avais imaginé, nous avons eu un peu trop chaud ; la régulation de la température dans la grotte est contrôlée par l'hôtel et la température n'a pu descendre que d'un degré (21 au lieu de 22 degrés), alors qu'il faisait frais à l'extérieur.

Very good, but not great
Pros:

Matera is beautiful. Cool historic property in great location. Very comfy bed. Incredible views.

Cons:

Service at restaurant extremely slow. Ate my entire breakfast before receiving my coffee both mornings.. Laundry facility was outside our room and workers were noisy at 2 am. Felt the price was high compared to other equivalent luxury properties we stayed at during our time in the Puglia region. Our initial impression was a "wow", but didn't hold up.

1. Limpieza deficiente: La falta de luz provoca que el suelo se quede sin limpiar correctamente.
2. Iluminación impracticable: Falta un sistema de luces funcional para ver bien, más allá de la luz escenográfica.
3. Privacidad nula: La puerta del baño no tiene pestillo y se abre sola constantemente.

Pros:

Our wedding trip to Puglia was unforgettable, and we are so glad we didn’t skip visiting the Sassi di Matera. Staying at Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita made the experience even more special.

The service was impeccable — truly above and beyond in every way. They had everything we needed, and the location was perfect: just steps away from wonderful dining, breathtaking views, and the magic of Matera itself. Spectacular hardly does it justice.

The resort is incredibly unique, blending history, beauty, and comfort in such an unforgettable way. Our visit was far too short, and we only wished we could have stayed longer.
