The Most Unique Experience In Italy
Pros:

First of all, this was the most unique experience as we stayed in a "luxury cave" - for real..!!!! You will never know an experience such as this as Matera dates back 9,000 years. Btw, a luxury cave , with all the modern day accoutrements.!!! The breakfast was the best we had in all of our Italian travels.

Cons:

Absolutely nothing. Everything was as unique as impressive..!!!!

The tasting dinner was another unforgettable part of our stay. It was much more than a meal – it was a journey through the flavors and culinary traditions of the region. Every course was beautifully presented, thoughtfully explained, and paired with excellent local wines, making the entire evening feel intimate and truly special.

Exceptionally comfortable for a cave, better than many conventional hotels and feels right at home. The staff is very welcoming and do everything they can to help and make your stay comfortable. I arrived sick and needed to go to the doctor's and they helped arrange a taxi and later helped by calling a pharmacy for me. Very nice people and a beautiful place, definitely worth the money. Other reviews mention the dark in the rooms and uneven flooring, not a problem for me at all but if you're having trouble walking or having other physical challenges, this hotel might not be for you as it requires to climb the stairs even if you get a shuttle from the parking lot. Also, other reviews mentioned hot in rooms, for us in the middle of July it was a pleasant 26 degrees inside, not too cold, not too hot, though maybe hotter than average American would find pleasant.

Good experience but too expensive for what it is.
Pros:

It was really cool being in the cave as an experience. The staff were really nice and it’s an excellent restoration project.

Cons:

As to be expected with a cave, it is quite dark and damp in the rooms. But it is an experience. The biggest issue for me was the value for money. It’s cool to be able to say that we stayed in a cave, but I wouldn’t recommend it to others just because I think it is too expensive for what it is.
