Good experience but too expensive for what it is.
Pros:

It was really cool being in the cave as an experience. The staff were really nice and it’s an excellent restoration project.

Cons:

As to be expected with a cave, it is quite dark and damp in the rooms. But it is an experience. The biggest issue for me was the value for money. It’s cool to be able to say that we stayed in a cave, but I wouldn’t recommend it to others just because I think it is too expensive for what it is.

Pros:

Great location, rich history and you get to sleep in a cave! Nice breakfast spread enjoyed outside overlooking canyon - beautiful view. A unique experience for sure!

Cons:

The cave was a bit musty but this is probably to be expected. That said it was good for a night but I probably wouldn’t want to stay there for much more time.

Matera Masterpiece
Pros:

We slept in caves! That's the first thing we tell people when they ask about our trip to Puglia. The rooms were so unique and beautifully outfitted. It's a real experience that we will remember always. It was also obvious that the history is so important here. The renovations have been painstakingly done to reflect how people lived in the past but definitely to a luxurious standard. Matera is a very special place, and this hotel adds to the experience. And, the breakfast was amazing; many tables of exquisite foods of all kinds. We wished we could have tried it all. We will remember this experience forever.

Heaven on the Hillside
Pros:

The cave experience was spectacular. Once you get past the quirkiness, the millions of steps and the candles, this place is unbelievable and well worth the time and money.
Excellent location in Old Matera, super friendly staff, insanely good breakfast and the most comfortable beds ever!

A truly unique stay in a fascinating town
Pros:

This was a unique and very fun property, perfectly located in one of the cave neighborhoods. The staff was wonderfully helpful. The room was well equipped, comfortable, and splendidly strange.

Cons:

The room was, appropriately, rather dark, and I sometimes struggled to locate items in my suitcase. But really, more lighting would have broken the mood.
