This was our third time at Mae Sa valley. It is such a special place. We travel extensively and I consider this to be one of the most beautiful spots in the world. It had not changed a bit in 5 years, maybe perhaps the gardens got more beautiful.
The setting: The gardens here are looked after so well. There are several gardeners at work the whole time. The view is breath-taking and stunning with a fast flowing river at the bottom. The manageress, Ai, is very good at her job, speaks amazing English (which is not a given in Thailand) and is very intuitive.
Last time we stayed in one of the cheaper rooms up the top which had the advantage of an amazing view over the whole valley. The rooms are a bit basic but you get what you pay for. We upgraded to what they call a suite this time and it was amazing. I cannot describe the attention to detail (murals on the walls, door handles in animal shapes etc.) I discovered something new every time I looked. Next time we will go for the suite suite! These rooms are closer to the river which is nice but the river is loud. It is quite well insulated in the bedroom so you don't hear it.
The area: There is surprisingly a lot in the way of tourist attractions here (botanic gardens with canopy walks, insect farm, elephant farm) but not much in the way of restaurants. Bring snacks.
Of course, this is not for everyone. If you are mobility impaired this will not work for you as too many steps. As you are in nature there are a lot of insects and it is humid and you get a damp smell from the river. Also, breakfast is very basic (but the view makes up for it!) All said, this place is special and has to be seen.
When you arrive to the resort, you discover a beautiful garden which go down to the river
The gardens are very well maintained.
But the rooms are very average! Average but clean. The bathroom is very clean but very modest...
I discover on the morning that there is no bedsheet to protect the duvet (see the photo)... I slept in the same duvet than the previous customer because I doubt that they wash the duvet every day
Attention search the ride Bungalow. Delux is not deluxe
Agréable séjour en amoureux de 2 jours en montagne. Beau paysage.
My family and I booked a couple of rooms here, some were in the standard non-air con rooms and some were the deluxe and family air-con rooms. The standard rooms up at the top were all horrible. They were musty and moldy (I had to throw out the shower curtain as it was covered in mold!!). The lower rooms with air-con were much better. Please choose wisely. Water pressure for the rooms were also very low and the heater stopped halfway during a shower. Not very convenient to town but close to the elephant park. The garden was very pretty. Nice place to relax, just not in the rooms.
It is located just an hour drive from the Chiang mai airport. Friendly staff that are availlable to help you at any time. A waterfall crosses the picturesque garden. It is just a few minutes from the botanic garden which it is a must see. You also have two very good options for eating. What I liked the most was the astonishing view when waking up and the sound of waterfall when falling asleep.
Very quiet hotel, in the nature, a place to stay many days with really nice people for service. But they need to make some repairs, the aeration in shower without protection !!! (Electric cables and fan)
A compound of local styled huts amongst the hills. Good atmosphere. It is a perfect place to escape from city life. The hot water doesn't work quite well. The heat keeps off and on. The service is perfect. The view is stunning.
The "wow" factor when walking into the resort is unbeatable. As the name implies, you are in a valley surrounded by lush greenery (immaculately kept), beautiful flowers and stunning wildlife. The prices are crazily low for what you get. We found our hut very rustic and it fit so well to the surroundings. The feeling when you wake up of being so close to nature, the sounds of nature, is so amazing. The manageress, Ai, spoke the best English I have ever heard in Thailand and greeted us every time we came back (i.e. coming to the car), gave us the best service possible. Really memorable.
We stayed here with a family of four. Great service from all the staff. Good selection of options for breakfast. The huts are located with a beautiful view. Rooms are nice and clean. Swimming pool and gardens look immaculately kept. Definitely recommend to all.
I booked 3 bed rooms villa for 6 people of my family. Each bedroom have its own bathroom. It's very convenience. There's big window in master bedroom, you will have the best garden and waterfall view from this room.
This resort is located on the hill so there're lots of steps. Not recommend for who have legs problem or little kids.
It's sad to see this place poorly maintained. The remnants of where craft and painting used to be done were left behind. It's a pity. The restaurant seem to have quite a crowd but the food was slightly on the sweet side. But the gardens were well looked after and the landscape was amazing.
Another one night stop on my solo bike tour of the province - the steps were tough after a long day on the bike that finished with a big climb. But the area is very picturesque. Staff speaks good English, is very friendly and professional. Limited menu, but first rate food prepared perfectly to order (they also offer cooking classes), decent room also with nice views, a/c and water pressure good.
We were picked up from our hotel in Chaing Mai and taken to the Mae-Sa Valley resort, where we did a morning of cooking. As we had the 2 kids, this course was for just our family. (The kitchen is small, so I expect the max capacity is about 6 anyway.) The resort is set in the hills in the national park and has wonderful views. The kitchen is a well equipped outdoor kitchen- perfect for the heat and the view!
The class was taken by the Thai cook and there were a lot of people to help (eg. cutting vegetables/spices/herbs for the kids). Everyone was really friendly.
We cooked Pad Thai, green curry, pork fried rice and banana coconut cream...and then ate it! It was great as the kids could put in less chilli for themselves, so we had a meal to suit all of us!
The kids were so excited and loved this trip- it was a fantastic and relaxing way to learn Thai cooking for kids in a great location.
I'm sick of staying at well-equipped hotels in the middle of tourists city so I pick This place. It's about an hour driving to town.
Beautiful landscape on the hill brings lovely peaceful feelings. The weather was a little colder than in city especially at night and early morning. It's close to the Waterfall, Elephant Camp, Botanic Garden...
Just not many things to do at night. It's quite empty so there was no class like pottery or painting opened.
We really, honestly enjoyed our visit and would recommend it to others. The resort is so relaxing and beautiful.
However, it's obvious that it's not what it (appears to be) once was. e.g.,
- lots of massage beds…but no one to give a message
- enticing craft village…but it's closed
- huge fire pit with firewood stacked in it…but when I asked if my family could have a campfire, the lady looked at the wood, looked at me, then said, "No. Cannot."
- beautiful swimming pool…but is seriously the coldest pool I've ever been in, and we're from the North.
We traveled just before the Chinese New Year, so this is peak season which would make you think they'd be at the top of their game, but they weren't. Sad to see many of their "services" not in service.
I give it 4 stars for the immaculate landscaping, gorgeous scenery, nice staff, and clean updated room.
First impressions of this place really good........ Lovely surroundings in a steep garden.
Nice pool, let down by awful poolside furniture - very old and pitted with grime.
We had a standard room with aircon, which was very basic - no chair inside, no fridge or tea/ coffee making facilities. Bear this in mind as nearby there are only a couple of ramshackle Thai places.
We went to the Restaurant in the evening hoping to enjoy our evening there. Luckily we had the foresight to ask the price of a beer to enjoy with our meal, and were shocked to be told 170 baht a bottle !! It's the most we have ever been asked for in all our travels in Thailand. The manageress justified this with the explanation they have to add VAT !
Once you arrive there you are a cornered market, with nowhere decent to eat or drink nearby, and complete lack of facities in the room to enjoy a drink on your own terrace. I suppose this entitles them to think they can charge anything they want.
The last orders in the Restaurant are 7.45 pm, so there is nothing to be done after this time but retire to bed.
We had taken pictures of this lovely place in the day, to return with friends later, but we will not be going back.
Reception is a long, long way from the entrance and accessible only by many steep steps, not a problem for us as , we only had overnight bags.
Thankfully we didn't book longer !
We have stayed at this resort prior to what seems to be new management.
We checked the room rates on their web site and with them noted arrived last Thursday. The low season, standard room rate was quoted on the web site at 800 baht however on arrival we were quoted 1,700 baht because we hadn't booked via the internet.I said to the girl OK I will sit in the car and send you an email is that ok? no she said you are already here, its 1,700 baht.I have managed and owned resorts and this sort of nonsense beggars belief.I should of course have asked to speak to the manager but we just left politely never to return.A km later we found another resort with no such ridiculous policy.
We booked this resort relying on the pictures (nice) on the internet. The surroundings are very nice with flowers and a stream. Although almost all the big bungalows were empty, they assigned us a bungalow really awful: tiny room, unadorned, with thin walls, not even a chair to place our luggage, bathroom small and spartan, beds and pillows hard and not comfortable. Breakfast poor and low quality. Staff rude.
This place is beautifully surrounded by forest, filled with flowers, kind people and playful cats. Every cottage is designed in a different style and building are spread all over the place in a different levels giving you your privacy and peace. This place is huge and incredibly lush. It has an amazing pool built higher up giving you an amazing view. Also breakfast is served on the terrace of a building on top of the hill giving you one spectacular view of almost entire place. There is also a magical craft village having some interesting courses on offer. I am very satisfied with mine batik/scarf painting course. I have noticed they can also arrange a cooking class for you. This family run place is perfect for relaxation, couples, families with kids, honeymoon and even a wedding parties. I can truly imagine to stay here for very long time if not forever. Been here for 4 days and feeling like at home already. Thank you.
