Nothing
The hotel was clean, tidy and well maintained, and my room was comfortable enough for travelling alone. Although the room was fairly small, I particularly liked having a table and chair in the corner by the window, which made it a nice place to sit and look out over the city. The room was cleaned well during my stay and the bed was made properly each day. The hairdryer was also better than those you typically find in hotels, although still not great. Overall, the hotel was convenient and functional, and there were no major issues with the cleanliness or comfort of the room.
As a Hilton DoubleTree, I arrived with fairly high expectations, but the hotel didn’t really have the luxury feel or level of service I would expect from the brand. The room and bathroom were both quite small, with the bathroom feeling particularly cramped and toiletries were basic. The curtains were also difficult to close fully, leaving small gaps at the sides.
The service from the staff was probably the biggest disappointment. On arrival, I had to stand waiting to be greeted to check in and was then asked to wait while the staff picked up the phone phone to try to contact someone vs checking me in. Check-out was better, but when I was asked how my stay had been and replied that it was “OK”, there was no follow-up or attempt to understand why. It felt more like a routine question than genuine interest in the guest experience.
The hotel lobby was quite busy during my stay, partly because the ground-floor restaurant is open to the public and there were events taking place at the hotel. This made the hotel feel more like a busy venue than a relaxing hotel. I also tried the rooftop bar, which was OK, but it felt quite rushed and lacked much atmosphere. The non-alcoholic drinks were also very expensive.
Some of the small touches also felt lacking for a hotel at this level. There was bottled water in the room, but it was €6 per bottle, which was an unwelcome surprise. There weren’t really any other welcome touches or extras that made the stay feel special.
The gym was another disappointment. I tried to use it twice, but there were only two treadmills and one was broken, while the other was occupied on both occasions. I reported the broken treadmill and was told someone would be sent to fix it, but I never received any follow-up to confirm whether it had been repaired.
