wasnt able to use debit for deposit.... paid 200$ for a room and slept in my truck i the parking lot. front desk employee basically gave no options besides call booking.... very disapointing

Scott Mackay – Sandman Hotel Edmonton South
This review is written with great reluctance, as I am a long-standing and loyal client of Sandman Hotels and a Genius member on Booking.com, in addition to managing company accounts that list Sandman as a preferred hotel. I am also a very busy professional, and it takes a lot for me to publicly document an experience like this.
However, the behavior displayed by Scott Mackay (Supervisor/Manager at Sandman Hotel Edmonton South) was completely unacceptable.
Mr. Mackay was rude, unprofessional, dismissive, and demonstrated a shocking lack of empathy toward paying guests. His conduct was deeply insensitive, especially given the severe weather conditions and the fact that this stay coincided with a client’s birthday, which instead turned into a distressing experience.
Without any attempt at dialogue, flexibility, or customer care, a reservation was cancelled directly in front of the client, with no reasonable explanation and no effort to provide a solution. When a deposit hold was proposed either via debit or cash, it was flatly refused, accompanied by a condescending attitude and hostile demeanor.
At no point did Mr. Mackay behave as someone who understands hospitality, customer service, or basic human decency. His actions showed zero empathy, zero professionalism, and complete disregard for client relationships. No business owner or leader would knowingly treat guests in this manner.
Employees like this directly damage a company’s reputation and revenue. While my individual bookings may seem insignificant to him, the hundreds of bookings made through myself, my team, and my professional network are not insignificant to the owners who entrust their brand to front-line leadership.
This review is not emotional, exaggerated, or biased, it is factual and honest. What occurred was unacceptable. Guests should never be treated in such an inhumane and disrespectful manner.
Comftorable beds, soft and firm pillows on the beds for different sleepers, friendly and helpful staff. Easy access to downtown. AC was powerful and was controlled via. thermostat.
No complimentary breakfast, shower was finnicky to use and controls were loose. Nearest businesses are 5 to 10 minutes away by walking, might be hard for some to leave the hotel without transport.
