Hidden gem
Little bit old
The place is quite in the middle of nowhere, but once you find it that's great stuff! Superb view over Auckland, huge room, excellent breakfast and restaurant. We didn't manage to use the SPA, but we were amazed anywa also by the very good service.
No complaints.
View was amazing. Room was big and spacious. Bed was great. Breakfast was also lovely. Staff were very helpful. Loved the retro feel of the dining room and other common spaces.
The road down to the hotel was a bit difficult as two cars cannot pass each other so you have to veer off the road.
Had nice views
Drive was single lane for about 400m with no safety barrier to sheer drops on either side, with passing points every 80m or so with two way traffic.
Hotel room had cobwebs and smelt of damp, and there were window doors through to the bathroom that did not close properly (so good luck going to the toilet in privacy). The room also had an outdated fridge which was very loud. The spiders webs were an extra big issue as wife is arachnophobic.
When we complained to the front desk to how unclean the room was we were told not much they can do, and we could pay to upgrade our room instead. So we asked if we could reduce our stay to one night instead. We were told that isn't possible, and the only way they could refund us if someone else rented the room, and they'd charge us booking.coms commission (?????).
So I said I'd cancel it through booking.com, as I would only be charged for the first night. They said that would could as cancelling the entire booking and I wouldn't be able to stay for the night. Despite being charged the night rate for the room. This was for our honeymoon, and they were completely willing to help us out in any way. Even after I offered to pay the commission to just stay the one night too.
After a back and forth for a while and getting no where. We decided we'd rather pay the day rate to NOT stay there.
Der Ausblick ist atemberaubend
Das es nicht transparent dargelegt war, dass man sich das Frühstück wie z.B. Rührei mit oder ohne was dazu, extra bestellen muss.

No cooking utilities
While the restaurant was closing at 7.30pm which I found to be absurdly early, the food was excellent
Bathroom fan could do with a clean, property not well suited for vehicle of height or with roof racks. WIFI password was a mission to find hidden on the bottom of the page 17.
Personnel accueillant et compétent, literie confortable, logement bien chauffé. Nous étions dans la chambre 19 (villa 2 chambres). Très bon petit déjeuner. Spa incontournable! Parking gratuit bien pourvu. Jardin très beau, bien entretenu.
Piscine non chauffée, dommage. Peu d’ustensiles de cuisine dans la villa.
Insane location
Nothing
Being surrounded by green ranges.
The place was unexpectedly quaint & some parts could do with a refresh.
Beautiful views, friendly staff, comfortable bed. Such a nice location if you want to stay outside of the city. Close to Piha if you want to visit the beach.
A unique location. The premises are olde worldly in parts (but fantastic) but our room was renovated, modern and very comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were great.
Nothing. A happy experience.
The drive from the road to the accommodation nestled in the heart of the ranges is spectacular! The air was fresh & the views from our apartment and main reception areas were breathtaking.
We were given the opportunity to upgrade our garden spa apartment to the one next to it (which had a much better view) for only $15 (definitely worth it!)
The bed in our accommodation was comfortable and the shower pressure was excellent.
We had a delicious cooked breakfast in the restaurant and enjoyed the beautiful view while we ate.
Unfortunately the garden spa apartment wasn’t as clean as we would’ve liked. The spa bath needed cleaning and there were spider webs, dirty windows and dirty windowsills throughout the apartment.
There was no dishcloth and the cups provided were too small to make a decent hot drink in. The ice tray in the freezer was only partially filled up. There were lights not working in the kitchen and bathroom.
Although the vintage vibe of the resort is undoubtedly cool (you can really feel its history!) The place is definitely in need of some tlc to renovate & update it.
