My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in late April, ‘26, at the end of our river cruise. We wanted to enjoy Cartegena for a longer visit than the cruise itinerary allowed, It was a good choice,

The Casa Canabal is a small boutique hotel in the Getsmani area, a short and pleasant walk from the main gate of the old historic center of Cartegena. There are a number of places to stay within the walled town itself, but we had done that years ago and wanted a different experience this time. The Getsemani area is also historic and certainly colorful, but it is more active at night with both residents and tourists enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. The narrow street that the hotel is on is busy with pedestrians but it is also accessible by taxi’s and ride-shares. In fact, we had no trouble using Uber from and to the hotel, including to the airport.

Like many boutique hotels in Cartegena, Casa Cnaabal is in a renovated older building. In this case the renovation is very attractive and has produced a very welcoming and comfortable place to stay. The small lobby area just off the street opens into an open atrium with a waterfall cascading down one wall. A small very cute restaurant is off the atrium and also has an entrance off the street. This is where breakfast was served and it was very pleasant. The restaurant serves dinner as well, but we didn't try it. Two nearby restaurants that we enjoyed were Di Silvio Trattoria and Dona Lola.

All rooms are on the 2nd floor (no elevator, but help is available with luggage. With the exception of a few premium rooms that overlook the street, all others have only a window that opens to he hallway. This tends to make them somewhat dark, particularly those that are further down the hall from the atrium. Our room (203) was close enough to get some light from the atrium. The room was very large, attractive, and comfortable. It had a king-sized bed, two night stands with outlets, a small writing desk a small bureau, and an armoire. There was a coffee maker, but coffee packets and bottled water were furnished only on the first day of a stay – very odd. The a.c. was quiet and effective. The large bathroom had attractive coral-stone tile floor-to-ceiling, and a large open shower. The vanity area was a bit small, and needed brighter light over the sink.

A small pool is available on the top floor. The area needed more umbrellas and lounge chairs, however.

The reception and restaurant staff were very helpful, efficient, and friendly. Karen, at the front desk was particularly nice, and so was the head waiter in the restaurant.

Overall, we recommend the Casa Canabal, with a few minor reservations.

La atención es espectacular, Jose Luis y Rosmery nos hicieron sentir en casa con recomendaciones y consejos además de ser muy amables con todas las solicitudes que teniamos o dudas del momento.
El personal del casino también demasiado atentos a nosotros y la comida espectacular.

The location was excellent and the service was amazing. The waiters where great but Alfonso was my favorite of all. He was outstanding in his service and was very friendly and helpful and willing to help in all our needs. *****

This is the perfect boutique hotel, nestled at the edge of Getsemani and the old city. Most everything is within walking distance

Beautiful hotel in a great location in the lively Getsemani neighbourhood. Local restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity and a 5 minute walk to the centre of Cartagena. Lovely bedrooms. Nice rooftop terrace offering tranquility in the middle of Getsemaní with a small but clean and functional swimming pool. Amazing breakfast with fresh fruits, juices, pastries and eggs cooked to your liking. Alfonso was ever so attentive when we were eating breakfast and made sure our suitcases were brought down when checking out

This is a lovely little boutique hotel in Getsemani, just a couple of blocks from the walled city. Very bright, clean and modern inside, the staff are friendly and the breakfast was delicious with lots of buffet items as well as made to order omelets or your choice of eggs. The plus is that it's right on the main drag running up to Plaza de Trinidad, so if you want to pop out for a quick drink or dinner in a lively area, it's right outside your door. The downside is if you have a room on the front like we did, it can be a little loud at night with people partying in the streets pretty much all night. After a day of wandering in the heat, Alphonso was always quick to ask what we wanted and by the second day he was ready to make us an icy margarita and would bring it up to the pool as soon as we were showered and changed. It was overall a great experience.

✨I had the most incredible stay at Hotel Casa Canabal while celebrating my birthday as a solo traveler, and I truly couldn’t have chosen a better place. Located inside Cartagena’s beautiful walled city, the hotel is perfectly situated—everything you could want to explore is just steps away, yet it still feels peaceful and safe.
As a woman traveling alone, feeling comfortable and secure was very important to me, and this hotel exceeded all expectations. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring—they made me feel welcomed from the moment I arrived. Every detail, from the ambiance to the service, was thoughtfully curated.
My room was stunning—clean, beautifully designed, and the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. Celebrating my birthday here felt so special, and I’ll always remember how this stay made me feel: relaxed, safe, and completely taken care of.
I would absolutely return and highly recommend Hotel Casa Canabal to any solo female traveler visiting Cartagena. It was truly a 5-star experience
