I organized a last-minute holiday to my homeland, Greece, and was lucky enough to find a room at Splanzia. It’s an absolute gem of a boutique hotel, made even more special by its wonderful hosts, Yiannis and Nikos. Honestly, I’d love to keep this place a secret, but it’s too good not to share! 😀
The location is perfect—right in the heart of old Chania and just a few minutes’ walk to the beautiful waterfront. My room was spacious, modern, and spotless. The hotel is a beautifully restored traditional house, which adds charm and atmosphere, making it feel like an essential part of the Greek experience.
One of my favorite features was the gorgeous enclosed garden where breakfast is served. The breakfast itself is large and very filling—I only managed to enjoy it twice because I had to leave early for day trips. There’s also a wonderful terrace, perfect for enjoying sunsets or simply drying wet swimwear after a day at the beach.
Yiannis and Nikos were exceptional hosts, offering tips on local food, nightlife, beaches, and even helping me organize day trips.
Crete and Chania are stunning, and Splanzia made my stay even more memorable. Top marks to this incredible hotel—I will definitely be returning!
Great location, truly friendly staff and management and the best breakfasts I've ever had. Crete is an island that takes food seriously and this is a hotel that lives up to that ideal. Services were all terrific and the facility is built to a high standard.
Lovely area and owner were extremely helpful and accommodating!!
We had a fantastic stay in the hotel Splanzia. Location was brilliant - right in the heart of Chania town but also quiet and relaxing. The breakfast was gorgeous and the people who run the hotel are so helpful and friendly. Loved it and would definitely go back
My wife, daughter and I stayed at Splantzia Boutique Hotel and really enjoyed it. The location is perfect, right in the center, and the staff were so kind — they even waited for us when we arrived late at night.
Breakfast was rich with lots of choice, including local desserts and fruit, and the room was clean and beautifully decorated. Everything was smooth from start to finish and we’d happily stay here again.
Great Location, Fantastic breakfast!
We absolutely loved our stay at this boutique hotel. The triple room was spacious for 3 people. The beds were extremely comfortable and had an old-world greek style. Nikos and Yannis (hotel owners) were wonderful hosts - super friendly and helpful! They provided us with good advice and guidance on restaurants, beaches, and the key Chania old town sights. We stayed 5 nights and every morning we woke up to the most delicious and amazing breakfast. We had a daily pastry, fresh fruit, homemade desert crepes with chocolate and banana, extensive choice of coffees, and eggs made to order. The breakfast is served in a beautiful, private, enclosed garden/patio. The room is just as pictured on the website. We loved walking out of the hotel and being right in the heart of old town Chania. There are numerous excellent restaurants and bars on the same street as the hotel. The creperie across the street from the hotel that stayed open until 3am daily was a nice treat to end our evening. Highly recommend this hotel - don't hesitate to book!
Very friendly. Pleasant spacious rooms. A bit dated.
Hotel Spanzia is a true gem of a property. Great staff. Excellent location for exploring Chania. Breakfast is not the usual lineup of warming trays. Served in the hotel’s perfect garden area, eggs are served as you wish with many choices. We had the upper floor room with a loft ( we didn’t use) . Bed are comfortable. Lovely furnishings in our room and throughout the hotel. Highly recommend.
Splanzia hotel was a wonderful experience. I traveled with my husband and we had a beautiful room by the courtyard. The room was extremely clean, bright and comfortable. The two brothers who run the hotel were very welcoming and helpful, talking us through our different options for visiting Chania and traveling in the surrounding area, as well as advice for the best food in town. They went out of their way to make sure that our stay was a great experience.
The breakfast was amazing, we were offered fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, eggs (cooked in a multitude of ways!) toast, pancakes, freshly squeezed juice, tea and coffee.
The hotel is situated in the Splanzia neighbourhood of Chania, very close to shops, bars, restaurants and the old Venetian port. Also very handy for taxis and public transport, including for the KTEL (inter-city buses).
I would definitely recommend this hotel - great location, amazing hostpitality, romantic, peaceful and a great experience overall.
. Our room overlooked the garden patio, where we had a massive and delicious breakfast each day (5 day stay). Host and brothers Nikos and Ioannis treated us like family.
Free street parking - but only on a few streets. There are some pay lots a short walk away
We stayed here for a fortnight. Brothers Nicos and Iannis were extremely welcoming hosts, advising us well on restaurants and sights. The location is ideal – away from the main tourist area but only 5 minutes’ walk away from the seafront and a host of restaurants. Our room 14 was sizeable and comfortable. This room, out of the 8 in the hotel had its own balcony and seat with outside steps leading to the breakfast garden. Breakfasts were massive – pies, yoghurt, eggs in many ways, bacon etc, cakes, fruit, orange juice.
The hotel has access to secure off-street parking immediately opposite but this costs €19 for 24 hours. We parked for free on streets nearby but this did mean quite a bit of driving around to find a free spot.
Very good little hotel right in the center of Chania.
Friendly service and wonderful breakfast served in a charming courtyard ( the best we had in Crete)
Parking can be difficult but there is a garage right in front.
It is the perfect place to enjoy Chania and I would recommend it to all
Splanzia was amazing. Believe the ratings and the reviews. I can’t imagine there is a better place for a couple to stay than here. Loannis and his family that runs it takes pride in their place and it shows from breakfast to dealing with quests on a personal level till late night. Breakfast in the courtyard was a feast. They don’t stop bringing you fresh fruit, juice, coffee, yogurt, breads, eggs, pastries….. (We didn’t have lunch either day) Parking can be a challenge but we found spots with a little patience. We stayed two nights and I regret not staying longer.
Great breakfast
Excellent in every way. A family -run small hotel quietly located in the centre of Chania old town. Tranquil garden where breakfast is served; an enormous choice of food, some dishes freshly cooked.
Spacious elegant bedroom with high ceiling and sophisticated lighting.
Exceptionally friendly and helpful proprieters. Highly recommended.
Wonderful accommodations and experience in every respect. Comfortable, modern rooms in a charmingly renovated historic building. We (two couples) had rooms on the top floor with great privacy and an outside deck.
Our hosts elevated our whole experience. The three generations of the owning and operating family quietly and unobtrusively met--in fact, anticipated--at every turn, recommending destinations in and out of Chania, restaurants, and other interesting enhancements to our trip. Everybody was there to say goodby when we checked out.
We will not even think about staying anywhere else when we return.
Nikos, Giannas and the family were exceptional hosts for us. The hotel felt more like a quaint B&B to us, with a very comfortable room healthy, central location perfectly placed in Chania's heart, and never-ending breakfasts each morning (definitely eat the Greek yogurt with honey!)
They had smart tips on where to park, best nearby beaches, and what was happening in the city. Plus, when we left some clothes in the armoire, they were helpful enough to have it sent to Athens at our next hotel.
Beautiful room with outdoor terrace for an amazing morning coffee. Extremely clean hotel. Nikos was awesome to work with, helped us with suggestions of restaurants as well as day trips. Hotel’s location is close to everything. Highly recommend!!!
Perfect location right in the outskirts of Chania town but still in the center. Maybe 5-9 min walk to the water and another 20-25 min walk to the nearest beach town Nea Chora. The room was very large for 2 people and perfectly cleaned. The bathroom felt very separate from the main room and the door is heavy/secure so allows for great privacy. The highlight of the hotel besides the location and comfort of the room is the made-to-order BREAKFAST! Unbelievable variety of food (actually too much for two people) with coffee, tea, cereals, eggs prepared how you like, fresh orange juice, pastry, fresh jam with variety daily (fig, pear), fruit platter (grapes, watermelon, melon, nectarine), bread and another small appetizer of vegetables. Truly is an incredible spread and we saved whatever we couldn’t eat to snack on later.
