A pleasant night away
Pros:

We stayed here for a night while visiting Cognac. The hotel is in a very nice situation with lovely views from the back of the house over the countryside. It also has a pool which was a little chilly in late September! First impression as you entered the hotel was that the grounds needed some maintenance. Dead flowers in boxes on the hotel steps etc. However the hotel itself was well maintained and reception staff were very welcoming although waiting staff were not very proactive when it came to ordering for dinner. Our room, a deluxe room, was spacious and well decorated with a large en-suite.
Dinner was pleasant but nothing to write home about.

Charming and unfussed
Pros:

Lovely out of the way hotel. Stop over on a long business trip and was very happy to find this charming residence. Helpful staff as my grasp of the French language is somewhat limited. Chef was ill on our night, so couldn't sample the wares, but local restaurants only 5mins away by car. Room was nice and bright, though could certainly benefit from air conditioning as was very warm. A fan was provided. Would certainly stay again.

Heavenly days in Cognac!
Pros:

Domaine du Breuil is spectacular, our group enjoyed two days in this quaint chateau. When we arrived they were preparing an exquisite meal that we had reserved in advance. They took care of even the smallest details to ensure our stay was exceptional. When making the reservations I spoke to Nicole, not only did she make our reservation for our stay, she also helped us reserve our tours, transportation and meals. Domaine du Breuil is a special place where you can just sit back and take in their magic!

Hotel in Cognac
Pros:

Lovely old chateau with pleasant staff and excellent food. Quiet. Lovely restaurant with excellent food also nearby in a park like setting, if you want to go out. Not as expensive as some other places you might stay.

NOT as good as before!
Pros:

We took some friends there as we had stay in this lovely house several time before. What a disapointement....very few staff rushed up their feet....staff in the kitchen keeping food under the warm kight so our duck was hum.......very dead! As we had waited for over 35minutes to have our main course and before that 20 minutes for our starter we were not to pleased! The staff tried hard but between serving in the restaurant, the bar and washing up????? It was not their fault! We did not recognise the restaurant and very good food that we had before!
The rooms need up grading in the style of the house.badly!!!!!
The people before started to do this in fact one of his daughter was very goog at it as we stayed in one of the room that was just done before. this trip. Apparently the new owner id chinese and thought he could come in and change everything with very modern new Iteck inside this lovely house.....To be fair this is normal for chinese as they do not respect old buildings...lived there so know!
More staff would have made the stay better but one presume that they pay their staff very little...so is the chinese way! HOPEFULLY a new owner or someone with money and ...comment sense will take over and make this place good again!
A sad story

A place to spend the night
Pros:

The drive to the Hotel was Epic as you go through the City of Cognac. The Hotel was however very mediocre to say the least. i think when we were given door code for after 9pm, that was the final straw. The rooms were pleasant but not great at all. The broken blinds in the bathroom didn't help. The list is endless of what this hotel needs. It can be summarised to say it needs a massive renovation. It sits on such majestic grounds, its deceiving from the outside. The only saving grace was the lovely breakfast and very friendly staff members. A definite miss if one is in Cognac again

Very disappointing, choose a different Cognac hotel
Pros:

Our stay in the Domaine de Breuil was particularly disappointing, as we have usually found Relais de Silence Hotels to be generally of a very good standard. The Domaine de Breuil lets the Relais de Silence brand down very badly.
I am not sure what the owner of this hotel wants to achieve. If it is dismal mediocrity then he has without doubt succeeded. We were greeted on arrival at 5pm by a deserted reception desk. This we found to be the usual situation, and understandable when one recognises that the primary staff activity was sitting on the terrace at the rear of the hotel, smoking and having a chat.
It was 28 degrees on arrival on June 2nd and after a 600 kilometre drive, I was looking forward to a swim in the pool and an hour of relaxation. In fact we had booked the hotel as it was advertised as a 3 star Relais de Silence, and importantly for us, with a swimming pool. Once the ‘manager’ had finished his cigarette and joined us at reception, he casually explained that the pool was closed and therefore not available.
We had to accept that and decided instead to walk around the ‘gardens’. If there were awards for championship weeds then this hotel would have a cupboard full. This once handsome country house appears to have fallen on very hard times. Barring an immaculate area of grape vines to the front of the hotel, inevitably one suspects, leased to and lovingly tended by a local grower, the grounds were a symphony of neglect and decay. No flower bed, plant or shrub was spared the withering inattention of the hotel groundsman, if indeed there is one which I suspect there isn’t.
On climbing the still handsome original ornamental stone staircase to our first floor room, we gained an early insight into the standards of housekeeping at the Domaine de Breuil. The original iron bannister rail is now very loose, insecure and dangerously wobbly, apparently having had a poor quality ‘botched’ repair done to it.
Further evidence of the lack of care and maintenance was demonstrated when I tripped over one of two 18 mm high rusty threaded bolts which protrude from the floor of the main terrace where our dinner was served. In the same vein our room, number 115, had a bathroom which was well overdue a refit. We had several broken and ill fitting tiles in this bathroom, and a defective shower head unit which had to be held up with one hand.
Our dinner was similarly very poor. We place our order at 735pm and found the service to be desperately slow. Our starter arrived at 815pm and our main course at 920pm. The two pave de boeufs were ordered as rare and medium, but arrived well done.
The following morning there was no manager on duty so we followed our stay with an email complaint. We were offered a full refund but only on condition that we put up a positive Trip Advisor report which I felt would have been dishonest.
If you are wanting to stay in Cognac there are plenty of much much better hotels to choose from.

I would seek alternative accommodation next time.
Pros:

A lovely old building with a tired exterior, it could do with an overhaul. The interior on the other hand was delightful. Service was slow

Pros:

The hotel was very nice, clean through out. all staff were very helpful. As the hotel is an old chateau, there was no air conditioning, we asked at reception if they could provide a fan and we had one in our room within an hour. Breakfast was buffet style, limited but good. It was an easy 5-10 minute drive into the centre of Cognac.

Pretty hotel with a nice terrace in the back. Cognac tastings in the bar.
Pros:

The hotel is located on the outskirts of Cognac and has an area of grapevines out front with a nice terrace in the back. Our room was somewhat small but certainly adequate. My husband and our friend had a cognac asting in the bar and enjoyed both the cognac and the conversation with the bartender. There is WiFi in the room but a somewhat weak signal, at least in our room. There was a mini fridge in the room, which was a nic3 touch. The bathroom could use a little updating but it was clean.

Nice stay while exploring the Cognac region
Pros:

We stayed here for four nights while touring the Cognac Region . From the outside the Chateau looked really amazing and it was set in nice grounds , There was a horrible speed ramp just passed the main entrance to the grounds which was quite high and caught our car every time although it can be avoided by going via the right hand side drive.
The public areas of the hotel were quite nice and the staff were always very welcoming .
We did not eat at the hotel as we prefered to explore Cognac and eat out in the evenings so cannot comment on the food.
Our room was clean although quite basic and was cleaned daily- the bathroom was quite dated though.
From the hotel it was quite a long walk to the centre of Cognac - around 30 minutes to the Francois 1st Square.
We liked the fact the hotel was situated in a quiet area and the rooms were quiet too.The hotel had plenty of parking spaces too.

Tired and run down
Pros:

Very sad little hotel - run down and tired but you can imagine it's once splendour!

Not run well at all - we arrived and a young Chinese boy said his friends were out but gave us a room key!

No facilities in the room and at 10pm there was a power cut! A knock at our door and we were asked if we knew how to fix it! Luckily my hubby did and power was restored - frantic phone calls from the poor young Chinese couple came to no avail!

Not worth €115 that's for sure - maybe more a hostel than a hotel!

Had the cheap to ask for another €15 for a coffee and croissant for breakfast - erm keep it!!!

Hotel with lots of flaws.
Pros:

The hotel was totaly dusty and old.
With a lot of cats everywhere. In the garden on the stairs. Luckely not in the rooms.
The owner hardly spoke english and the room was hundred years out of date.
The wifi was good. The only thing that worked,

Unfortunately could be much better
Pros:

With a bit more care and attention to detail it could be very good, great looking building with lots of history the smaller rooms are small but are clean with comfy beds. Stayed here in a group of 19 people for one night and had a fairly decent meal, breakfast was OK but not a lot of space to get to the various tables, long queue for coffee and the toaster.
Very good views and decent pool make it OK to sit back and relax after a days riding and the bar prices made sure you were OK to drive next day.

Lovely old building in need of a lot of major works
Pros:

We arrived to this hotel, it was a very hot day, so we unpacked and went to the outdoor pool which was small but clean. Our room was large but very stuffy. We opened the windows but through out our stay we had a horrible smell in the room. In fact when we arrived I thought perhaps they hadn't finished cleaning the room there was dust and rubbish on the floor, no one to report this to. Breakfasts were good. Restaurant good. Staff helpful. Again this hotel is in need of major and I mean major works. I personally don't enjoy eating my breakfast with dogs in whining and barking beside me that is a real health issue. As the owners are handling the dogs and touching the food, in fact one dog was fed sausages by its owner. No air conditioning I did see a hoover in the hotel but never saw it being used The whole place needs deep cleaning. This review is an honest view of what we encountered. I think we really enjoyed our times by the pool reading etc, only one comment was there were friends of the management in the pool non resident made it very noisy with children etc.

More Shabby than Chic
Pros:

Very disappointing accommodation that is tired and well past its best before date. You know something is wrong when you see dying pot plants in the central hallway on your way to the room.
THe location is great- quiet, large and a swimming pool ( which we didn't use) , and you can tell that once upon a time this was a lovely place to stay.
Our room which was one of the larger ones was big enough but a weird layout , with the tiniest of toilets somehow constructed with paper thin walls within the room itself. No venting in there either. The shower was adequate and separate from the main bathroom. Did not really feel clean even though it probably was.
Needs some TLC for sure
The receptionist when asked about eating there told us to check Trip Advisor - we did she clearly hadn't and thankfully we ate in town- steer clear there are better options.
