Bijna perfect hotel, met een kleine maar
Pros:

Dit hotel is een waanzinnige oase op een verder best druk en hectisch eiland. Werkelijk bijna alles is perfect, de groene tuin, de terrassen, de zitjes die je overal vindt, de verlichting, een prive jacuzzi, en zelfs eten bij kaarslicht op het strand als je dat wilt. Het personeel gaat tot het gaatje om je verblijf zo fijn mogelijk te maken. Waar je ook bent, er is altijd wel iemand die je een drankje brengt, of iets voor je wil dragen, of ergens mee helpen. En natuurlijk, dat mag ook wel, voor de prijs, want die is niet misselijk. Alles is dus in geweldig en eigenlijk zou ik normaal een tien geven, maar...

Cons:

Het hotel ligt nogal afgelegen, en de auto staat op een valet parking, dus als je even weg wilt, moet de auto eerst gehaald worden en daarna zit je best even in de auto over een heel smal weggetje waar Italiaans gereden wordt ;-). Je kunt trouwens ook met een boot naar Siracuse nemen (geweldige ervaring en zeker een keer doen), maar om elke avond 50 euro neer te leggen voor een boottochtje van 10 minuten is simpelweg te duur. Die bootservice moet vind ik onderdeel zijn van het toch wel forse kamertarief. Dat geldt ook voor basisvoorzieningen. Als je aankomt krijg je een flesje water, maar daar blijft het bij. Je kunt wel water bestellen a 7 euro per halve liter of een bak chloor uit de kraan drinken. Met alle respect, maar als je bijna 400 euro per nacht betaalt voor een kamer, hoort dat er gewoon bij in te zitten. De kamers waren mooi, maar ook een beetje afgedraaid met wat achterstallig onderhoud. Wel werd allea perfect schoongemaakt en alle potjes en prulletjes mooi neergezet, handdoeken verschoond etc. Echt goed verzorgd. Het diner in het restaurant was prima, maar ook zeer aan de prijs, en de sommelier adviseerde uit de indrukwekkende wijnkaart (dikker dan een staatsbijbel) alleen maar wijnen van soms wel 200 Euro, en dat waren niet eens hele bijzondere, dus we namen gewoon de Nero D'avola voor 45 de fles, die helemaal prima was. Het ontbijt was overigens perfect en ook heel idyllisch op een terras met uitzicht over een van de oudste steden van de Griekse oudheid. Maar goed, misschien is het mijn Hollandse zuinigheid, maar ik vond veel zaken echt bizar duur (cola voor 7 euro en een cocktail 18 euro). Als ik de eigenaar was zou ik een paar kleine dingen 'service van de zaak' maken en dan vliegen de tienen je om de oren. Nu dus maar een 8, want het hotel en zijn omgeving, is los van de toch wel bizarre prijzen, wel een ervaring.

Profit ahead of safety

Rooms aren’t modern and it is clearly visible that renovation was cut off from the investment plans. With room rate around 400 EUR/night, the hotel offers free bottle of water in the room, just for the first day…

But the worst experience was connected with hotel’s taxi boat. We decided to buy this offer to return from dinner at Sirakusa back to the hotel. Unfortunately weather conditions worsened quickly and such a transfer should be canceled by skipper. But he decided to embark almost 20 hotel’s guest, despite stronger and stronger wind. As long as we were within city walls, everything seemed to be OK. But last part of the transfer is on a short distance at open sea and the nightmare started. Big waves, no life jackets, no radio connection neither with port authority nor the hotel. We really were lucky to reach the hotel, but it has turned out that hotel dock … doesn’t exist. This is just one step made in a rocky part of the beach, with no option to dock the boat. So we were running of of the boat with skipper leaving steering wheel and engine working , while running to the front of the boat trying to help people to disembark. One BIG NIGHTMARE !

This was clear that profit of the hotel owner is much ahead of guest safety and satisfaction.

Not Overly Satisfied
Pros:

We were not overly satisfied with our stay. While the property is certainly impressive, it feels more like a production or event space rather than a peaceful escape. The location is in a remote area with limited access to nearby restaurants making your only Option for meals the overpriced hotel menu. The water taxi takes you to Ortigia where you can choose more but they charge 25 euro per person (a cost that the hotel should provide as a complimentary service in a 5 star hotel). While the breakfast was very impressive with fresh local ingredients, we were upset by our sheets having multiple stains upon arrival, strong cleaning odors, and no water being delivered to our room during turn down service. The hotel charges you for water and squeezes out everything they can get. We also requested towels while we were in the jacuzzi and they never arrived. We would recommend that you stay on the island of Ortigia instead.
