Nightmate for famílies with minors

Staff members had zero empathy, we arrived late at night 23:45 after a long day coming from Cartagena and ending our trip through Equador, Panama Ana Colômbia. When we arrived at the hotel the girl at the reception asked for the passports and after looking at them said are your kids minors, we said yes they are 14 and 16 years old. To which she said we need your kids birth certificate, this was the first time EVER in all the 50 countries, múltipla plane traveis through Ásia, europe, Canadá, US you name it that this was ever requested. And she continue saying this are the hotel rules you cannot stay here. We asked to talk to the manager DAVID which said the same or similar documents that we could not get them at 00:00 anywhere. So basically they make their own rules when you check in, we were never warned on any of the comunication we had with the hotel. I was glad that our kids are no longer babies, because looking for another hotel at 00:00 in Bogota was not what we were planning! My husband used his booking account and managed to book another hotel and we had no issue with them at all. This leaves to wonder that this hotel must have had several minor criminal incidents in the hotel and therefore cannot separate what are real famílies from criminal situations. I leave this review so this does not happen to any other family, By the way they change the triple for taxi from the airport we took uber which was much less expensive.

Worst experience in 35 years of global travelling

Worst experience ever encountered and we've travelled all over!

Cons:

I tried to contact holiday inn for months to check reservation was ok, get info re the airport shuttle, but no response. I sent emails and whatsup, nothing until a few weeks before. Even messaged the day before arrival to check all is well and confirm we won't arrive until 4am with our kids, as per our booking.
Upon arrival, we were informed we cannot check in as it's the hotel policy that we need proof our kids are ours. Our kids have the same surname as us, and passports confirmed that, yet they refused us. They even said we may need to pay a cancellation fee. This is all at 4am, after an 11 hour flight, jet lag and no sleep and in front of our kids, who are asking us why the men think we're not their kids. Try explaining that!! Reception said they'd try and put in a good word with reservation so there's no cancellation fee. I mean outrageous to say the least!!! Especially as there was nothing to even state this would be a requirement on any correspondence.
We walked to the Marriot who said it's not a legal requirement in Columbia and we're not the 1st to experience this from holiday inn.
I'm a holiday inn member and this has put me off the chain. Not an apology, all we got was an offer of their shuttle to take us to the Marriot, but only if we waited for 25 mins further.. it was a 5 min walk so we just walked.
I've had better service from hostels!
Should be ashamed of yourselves!! No customer service!!
