It's a nice option for excursions, when you are not staying a lot in the hotel. There are few shops around - supermarket and liquid shop, the check in was very fast, dinner is a normal one. They need a better coffee for breakfast. The staff are very polite and nice.
This hotel has definitely seen better days. The lobby is nice, but full of smoke (which apparently is not unique to this location, but rather common across the country). But the rooms are an embarrassment. Shabby, not very clean, and run down. The sheets are rough, and the towels are a scary gray color (I was so glad I had packed a travel towel!). The bathroom was beyond disrepair - the shower curtain was hanging by only a few hooks, and literally half of the toilet tank stand was broken off making the seat precarious!
On the upside, the rooms are big with high ceilings and there were plenty of outlets for charging electronics. The breakfast and dinner (buffets) were ok with lots of choices. And the location is central. So, if you go in with the knowledge that you will need to limit your expectations, it will not surprise or disappoint.
Price is probably the only reason why you might consider this hotel. It's an old hotel that is being squeezed till the last drop by its owner. Things broken are not fixed.
Al-Fanar Palace Hotel is located just next to a busy highway. It's not conveniently located for eating or shopping.
The hotel is old. Everything including the decor and furnishing, as well as the elevators, does not fail to give an impression that it is past its prime years.
The room (my room number 403) is spacious for a twin room. Lighting is good, with adequate illumination across the entire room. There is also a small LCD TV on the wall, and a mini fridge below it.
So far so good, right? However...
1) There is only one chair, with stained upholstery, in the room;
2) The pillows were without pillow cover (which was rectified after I went down to tell the reception.) You might wonder why I didn't call the reception, right? It's because there's no internal phone directory in the room, which should be standard for all hotels.
3) There is no electric kettle or water glasses provided (which should be there as I checked with my friend in other rooms.) I informed the reception as well, but this wasn't rectified. I stayed for a total of 4 nights-- the situation remained the same.
4) Charging point: In the whole room, there are only two power outlets for charging devices -- inconveniently located at the corner of a wall opposite the bed. And if that's not bad enough, only one works!
5) Now let's turn to the bathroom. Again, it's spacious and well lit. The tap needs an extra bit of force to turn off the water completely. There is a bathtub with a showerhead. So far so good, except there was no hand towel (only two pieces of bath towels in crimson colour-- can't even tell how clean they are.) The following day when I came back after housekeeping had left, there was one hand towel. (Why there was none on the first day, and then it became one on the next day?)
6) There's no rinsing cup in the bathroom. There is a cupholder on the wall, and the remnant of a broken cupholder on the other side.
7) The toilet flush system does not work well consistently. It worked well the first two days, and then started to have problems.
8) After having a bath, you would want to hang the clothes in the wardrobe for the next day. This room does not provide a single hanger.
9) Now, when it's time to sleep, you might think that there should be a master switch at the bedside for switching off the lights. That's pretty standard isn't it? No, I had to walk all the way to the entrance, as the only light switches were there just next to the door.
To be fair, some of the rooms are pretty decent. Yet my personal experience would only allow me to give the above comment on this hotel, which I would never use again even if I were to return to Amman in the future.
In light of the quality of housekeeping, configuration and maintenance of the room and attitude of the reception, I think the problem is with its management.
This is a very low level hotel, not worth the stay at all.
There's no internet
Rooms are dirty
AC is not working
Plugs are not working, only 1 or 2
There's no cable TV
Elevators not working
Floors sticky
Everyone smokes everywhere
We stayed in Al FANAR Hotel for 8 days , the hospitality, reception staffs and the services was very good.
The room furniture and accommodation also very good.
We highly recommended al fanar hotel . The reception staff not limited to Nabila, Ahmad , Ayman etc. are very nice and always ready for any kind of help.

I stayed in the hotel for a week the service was very good, the staff were very very nice! Ms. Nabila helped me a lot especially with me traveling with kids. I recommend the hotel greatly! Such a nice experience with very nice staff!! Thank you!
Hi there, this was one of the worst Hotels we have ever booked in Amman Jordan. We are from Australia, & New Zealand. We booked a room in January at Al Fanar for 22 nights including breakfast, through the website Hotels.com. Upon arrival at the hotel after 30 hours of travel we were rejected breakfast although we showed evidence on our booking that it included breakfast. I have raised this issue with a person named Lj, who works for Hotels over the phone, i still have this email. Unfortunately, this issue was not resolved and my brother and I spent 22 nights without breakfast at the hotel, as the reception refused to arrange it for us, they asked us for MORE money. In addition, my brother had his phone charger go missing after a room services had happened, and the person at the hotel reception asked us for 4x the price to get us a charger, when in the first place it was not our fault that it went missing. Lack of honesty, they also mentioned to me that it was better to book by paying cash at the reception, because i tried booking another room using the hotels wifi for another group of people, and their wifi didn't allow that option. We have spent a lot of money in this trip expecting for breakfast, to be included and not expecting our personal belongings to go missing. My brother had to go down the road hunting to find another charger. They only like short bookings - 1 or 2 nights maximum 5 nights. Anything more they will treat you unprofessionally.
It was great day in Al-FANAR PALACE Hotel, it actually begins with a problem but for luck I meet Mr. Ahmad alzboun at night shift and solve the problem professionally and fast.
Love this hotel ask for Mr. Ahmad alzboun to help you and find a good service.
Thank you Al-FANAR team and special thanks for you Mr. Ahmad.
I stayed there for 3 nights, it was comfortable for me and my wife and my 2 boys, asked for the gym and the reception opened it ,, it was nice for a change
Breakfast was ok,
We went to pharmacy which was few minutes away by foot
Stayed one night here on journey to Petra. Room was of average size, comfortable, and clean. It was a bit tired and could stand some renovation. The restaurant served a buffet style meal that was quite good. Seemed to be frequented by business travelers. As with most accommodations in Jordan the hotel is not smoke free so expect to inhale a pack or two while staying here. Staff was courteous and responsive.
Nice Hotel from the outside. We shared a two bedroom Apt. with another couple. The bedroom was very small, no room to move, no mirror in the room and the washroom flooded when we took a shower. Most people in our group had this problem with the shower. We had to use two of the towels to soak up the water. The food was good and the staff friendly.
We spent a night here and staff were very helpful. The restaurant provides nice food and breakfast is reasonable.
The rooms are spacious although needing upgrade.
Not very close to amenities or the city centre, but transportation is quick and cheap.
Hotel location is quite good to reach any place in Amman, Room is large and very nice place to sleep deeply. Rooms are cleaned and regularly the cleaning staff maintain that on daily basis.
Hotel staff were amazing and friendly especially Mr. Ayman Farah (Hotel Restaurant) who is really a gentleman who knows what he is doing and he care about all hotel's guests with his smiley face. Food was good and as per requests. Reception team were helpful especially in night shift (Mr. Ahmed).
I recommend this hotel for others.
The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I’m no stranger to staying in budget hotels abroad, but this one has been the absolute worst.
The hotel is outdated and in horrible shape. Don’t let pictures of the lobby or rooms/bathrooms fool you. Don’t let hotel assurances that they’ve done updating fool you. They were painting rooms on our hall one morning and had people checking into those exact rooms that afternoon. Painting rooms should be the least of their concerns considering the state of everything else in this hotel.
We moved rooms halfway through our stay as we finally had it with the state of disrepair of the first one. The first room was dirty and full of broken/unrepaired items (electrical outlets didn’t work, tub in shower was cracked and dirty, toothbrush holder was hanging off the wall, towel shelf was hanging off the wall, peep hole in our door was cracked and unusable, room phone didn’t work, curtains were dusty, lamps were broken, etc...). The worst part about our room was ants (we were on the 4th floor), and flies that kept coming out of a drain in the bathroom floor!!!! Not to mention the smell of sewer gas. Disgusting.
After tolerating our first room for a few days, we finally asked for a new room. The new room still had flies coming out of the floor in the bathroom and the safe didn’t work. I ended up carrying all of our cash around on my person because I had so much distrust for this hotel. On top of all the frustration we were feeling due to the abhorrent state of our first room, the manager blamed us for staying in a room we weren’t happy with!
Also, hotel staff flagged down cabs for us twice and, unbeknownst to us until the end of our cab rides, had agreed with the cab drivers on a rediculous sum for the cab fare that was more than it would have cost otherwise. We had to catch long cab rides (average 20-25 minutes with Amman traffic) to get to any restaurants because the hotel is not in a good location.
The only positives about this hotel are the relaxing patio space beside the lobby and the breakfast that was included in the price of our stay. Too bad the breakfast was terrible. We enjoyed the cuisine while in Jordan (had a wonderful breakfast at a camp in Wadi Rum), but this breakfast was not anywhere close to anything else we ate while we were there. I ate boiled eggs and hummus every breakfast we had to endure here because everything else was not appealing in the least.
This hotel should not be recommended to anyone. It was a complete dump on the less desirable side of Amman. This terrible hotel has the potential to ruin an entire trip. Sad, but true. If we hadn’t been with a larger group, we would have cut our losses and booked a different hotel in a hot minute.
For the sake of traveling and gaining unique cultural experiences, do not detract from your enjoyment of Jordan by staying at this hotel.
