Thank you to the entire team at 137 for their service during our stay. Special shoutout to Toto who took excellent care of our family. He anticipated every need, was professional and friendly, and made everything easier. We appreciate his attention very much.
The property is an oasis of calm and serenity, everything is “just so”, tasteful and easy. The bedding - OH - you sleep on heaven (I sleep on Hastens and Pratesi at home, I know a good bed).
The location. The property is situated in a location which rather far from both the Old Town (backpackers heaven) and the fashionable Western part of Chiang Mai.
A beautiful period property in a fantastic central
location. Very much an oasis in the city. Staff weee incredibly helpful and attentive.
The pool is lovely but due to central
location has no view and is often in the shade.
137 Pillars is one of my favorite hotels I have ever stayed in. The team was absolutely incredible and ensured we had a wonderful time whether we were inside the hotel or out exploring Chiang Mai. The room was gorgeous and tranquil, and the entire property was a true oasis, away from the bustle of the old city. We had dinner there once and breakfast each day, and the food was divine. Friends staying at other high end hotels in town came to 137 for a drink and were blown away by its beauty. We almost didn’t want to go sightseeing because we enjoyed being at the hotel so much! It was a true luxury experience and we hope to one day return. You won’t regret staying at 137 Pillars!
This is one of the finest hotels we have ever stayed in. Elegant and classy on every level. Particular compliments to Tuki, our generous Butler and attendant, who went over and above to take care of our family. I expect she will be running an important hotel one day soon!
We rarely complain and I find completing this review difficult but necessary. The stay at 137 Pillars was the second to last leg of a three week trip. Honestly we were exhausted and were looking forward to a good evening rest at the end of each day. That didn’t happen. To the contrary - we were kept up by a neighborhood dog that was barking throughout the entire night for two nights. At 4:00 in the morning the second night I couldn’t take it any more and called the front desk. Nobody answered. I texted our host who was no longer on the premises - no answer. Finally, I walked to the front desk at 4:30 am - after a five minute wait an office attendant came out. She walked with me to our room and heard the dog barking uncontrollably and persistently. She offered to give us a new room the next day - which we did. It wasn’t much better the third night because there was a bird outside our room all night chirping away - but it wasn’t as bad as the dog. When I discussed the dog problem with the manager the next day he admitted he was aware of the problem with the dog barking all night, yet they had still given us a room in the immediate proximity of its location. Though they gave us a new room with one day left, it wasn’t much better. As a traveler, this was a small disaster and they never did anything to compensate us for the two horrendous evenings. Shame on them.
That said, the hotel facilities and meal accommodations are outstanding - you just have to be selective about the room given to you and since most won’t be aware of the issue - we suggest finding a different place to stay until
The hotel management acknowledges it has remedied this problem for prospective future guests.
137 Pillars is a beautiful and serene bubble in the middle of Chiang Mai. From the moment we walked through the front entrance our heartbeats slowed, our breaths relaxed, and any residual stress fell away. It is an oasis of serenity. Classic architecture supported by all things modern made our 5 day stay quite sublime. The location is perfect, just outside the truly busy part of the city but it is an easy walk to the city. Many restaurants within steps of Pillars.
However, all of that would not have mattered if the staff was not stellar.
The service was seamless. Our butler Tuck was beyond stellar, she was extraordinary. She led her team with grace, kindness, professionalism, intelligence, and anticipated our every need. She and her team took such good care of my husband when he fell sick (for a day), making sure he ate, provided electrolytes, dropped in throughout the day. (I was at the Elephant Nature Park)
Tuck directed us to Big who worked out a day of activities outside of Chiang Mai. He really listened to our likes and dislikes and crafted a wonderful day that was a nice combo of active and beautiful. Thank you Big. Luang, our driver for the day was phenomenal, and made sure we got to and saw everything we wanted to see and took very good care of us.
We would go back in a heartbeat.
We had an incredible stay at 137 Pillars. The hotel is absolutely beautiful—peaceful, elegant, and luxurious—while still preserving its 200-year-old history in a way that feels authentic and special. It’s the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comforts.
The staff truly makes this place exceptional. Everyone was wonderful, but a special thank you to Tucky, our amazing butler. She seamlessly unpacked and packed our rooms and went above and beyond helping us with last-minute travel changes. Her care, professionalism, and attention to detail made our stay feel completely effortless. She even helped clean our muddy shoes after our Elephant tour!
While you’re there, don’t miss the Elephant Highlands Tour, which 137 Pillars partners with. It was a memorable, thoughtfully done experience and a real highlight of our trip.
Just got back from 137 Pillars in Chiang Mai and i'm still speechless! this place is a hidden gem 💎! the architecture, the vibes, the location... everything is just perfect 😍!
the rooms are AMAZING, super comfy and decorated with such taste, but what really made my stay was the STAFF 💕 - they were always with a smile, super friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.
the resort is like a little oasis in the woods, so peaceful and relaxing. perfect for couples or solo travelers looking for a chill vibe. plus, it's close to some awesome local spots with live music.
We are looking forward to going back soon.
The suite was lovely and the Pillars House was remarkable. Best shrimp ever at the bar. The staff was beyond great and Tucky was a life safer when all our clothes got wet at the Bangkok airport. Could have used some sunshine but the experience was near perfect!
We stayed in some nice properties during our trip to Thailand including The Siam in Bangkok and can say this was our favorite hotel. Authentic, great food, chilled, close enough to the center, amazing staff and luxurious amenities. Can’t way to go back!

Breakfast was good but not exceptional clean and limited choice due to the size of the property
The pool area no sunshine only drawback that’s all
I’ve dreamed of staying here for years and it lived up to the hype. The room was fantastic and grounds beautiful. What I really loved was sitting on the terrace when it rained or to escape the heat and enjoying the ambiance. The entire staff is excellent and our butler Toto was so helpful with everything we needed. It’s within walking distance in the old city but at the end of the day get a grab car for a cheap quick ride back. Highly recommend 137 pillars as a way to unwind from a busy day exploring Chiang Mai. Also, Anne the GM is a gem!
This is a must-visit hotel. While Chiang Mai was underwhelming (given its grand reputation), I'd return just to visit this absolute gem. The "137 Pillars" house is immaculately refurbished - a showcase of its darkwood elegance and an antique collection, while draped in the latest lush fabrics. Flowers and art are at every turn of the tropical garden around the house. The long, cool pool is super satisfying after a hot day in town, though its deck is a bit cramped. The spacious rooms are all relatively new but do not disappoint - chic Asian style at its best - especially the grand bathrooms and large outdoor showers. Oh, also loved the museum under the house. And the manager was fabulously friendly and helpful.
