Really didn’t know what to expect when we booked this. We chose here as it was offered at a good price and location looked central to everything we wanted to do during our 5 day stay. Reading the reviews beforehand confused me as they varied so much. The hotel was bright, spacious and very clean but did lack atmosphere. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and after reading the other reviews l was worried that they would be pushing tours etc but we experienced nothing like this at all. We had room 211 and it had lovely views of Mt. Vesuvius. The breakfast was basic and low budget in places but we didn’t mind as we knew we would be out for the day eating rich, luxurious food! The view of the hills from the far end of the dining room was beautiful but for some reason they wouldn’t allow you to use this area for breakfast. They had it all set up for the evening and made you sit at the other end. The staff at breakfast were polite but not engaging in the slightest and stood around at the edge most of the time. I just couldn’t understand why they didn’t let you use one end and just set it up at the end for the evening. It would have made breakfast slightly more enjoyable. We didn’t use the pool but took a look and it looked clear and clean. The road that everyone refers to outside is indeed busy and you have to be quick and alert to cross. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this for people with kids or the elderly. There is no way that you could walk to anywhere from the hotel, we had a hire car and had no problem parking at the hotel each night. The nearby restaurants were great. Particularly La Quiete. Tiny annoyance was the huge double wardrobe in our room that had only 5 ropey coat hangers in it. On the whole very good for the price.
Starting with the positives the view is lovely looking out to the bay if Naples, and it's quite!! apart from the love of car hones being so close to the road.
The not so good point's, the breakfast limited in choice using cheap ingredients, mainly the cereals, fruit juices and the worst coffee machine I've seen. The lack of any interest in "the customer experience" is totally lost in the restaurant and the bar,a lonely piano sits waiting for use .But there's always the rather expensive spa experience at €30 per person per hour for the very basic jacuzzi and steam room, anything further fleeces you even more.
The internet is not so good any found that it was better to use my Euro roaming from the UK,
This was a shame as this hotel could improve if they brought some gumption into this establishment.
Remote, Unwelcoming, and Not Worth the Cost
I stayed at the Hotel Santangelo Resort & Spa from 11–15 September 2025, and it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had.
Although I chose this property for its price and supposed proximity to local sites, it turned out to be extremely remote. Walking anywhere is unsafe—the roads are narrow, with no consideration for pedestrians. I am able‑bodied, but anyone with mobility issues should avoid this location entirely.
I booked a superior room with a balcony but was given one with only a bi‑fold window. The room itself was clean and the bathroom acceptable, but the fridge barely worked (a bottle of water took over six hours to chill), and requests for something as simple as ice were refused.
The hotel constantly pushed guests to book meals and spa services. The restaurant was often filled with conferences or locals, the menu was repetitive and overly “fine dining,” and asking for something simple like pizza was frowned upon.
While the cleaning and grounds staff were friendly, the reception staff were rude, dismissive, and spoke little English—every request felt like an inconvenience, so I eventually stopped asking.
If you’re hoping to use this as a base for Sorrento, Capri, or the Amalfi Coast, think again. The winding roads make every journey exhausting, and travel sickness tablets are practically essential. The pool was freezing and almost always empty, and the sister hotel across the road meant crossing a dangerous street just to get food or drinks.
As a solo traveller, I was glad my stay was only four nights. I even missed breakfast twice due to early tours, and no packed lunch was offered. Between the constant fireworks, the unwelcoming atmosphere, and the lack of basic hospitality, I cannot recommend this hotel. If you want remote, this might suit you—but otherwise, avoid it.
Very good hotel and amenities. Remote, excellent views, perfect for a quiet getaway. Vehicle hire recommended if you want things to do. Staff very nice and helpful.
Peaceful friendly food excellent personnel amazing, only one problem transportation but front desk was always ready to help and solve the issue. Incredible vacation unforgettable experiences thank you Expedia
We spent 4 nights at this wonderful hotel. The food was excellent and all the staff couldn't do enough for you. The reception staff especially Maria were wonderful, helping us arrange trips, where we were collected direct from hotel and able to visit Positano, Amalfi and Capri.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.
This was the pwrfect spot to relax after the stress of Almafi and Positano. The installation are vera confortable. The view is fantastic and the staff perfect. Tks for this nice get away
We stayed 3 nights. It was so easy to relax there either by the pool or on our terrace.
The spa facilities look awesome.
The staff are very helpful.
The location is stunning. Food was great with amazing views from the dining room.
It's an easy drive to Pompeii.
Would highly recommend.
Very nice and clean place breakfast was outstanding
Good property, friendly staff and owner food is good but in general needs more attention from management as property has very good potential
Taxi to hotel 180 euros.
When I arrived, I was told that my room was over the road - not just any road, but a busy, windy, dangerous road. I expressed my concerns and 'Rita' the lovely hotel receptionist found a room for me within the hotel.
I had booked bed and breakfast. The food was average - cereals, bacon, bread, cold meats (2 types) and cheese (1 type). Unfortunately no fruit. A La Carte menu which did not change. The chef cooked some complimentary starters.
The hotel itself was very clean and towels changed regularly. Lovely, polite staff who made everyone feel welcome.
An outdoor pool which was really nice, although small. Extra charge of 30 euros to use the Spa facilities and extra for treatments.
This hotel is a fantastic option, just 40 minutes from Naples and well-connected to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Mount Faito, making it ideal for hiking throughout the year. The SPA is excellent, with a new section expected to open by the end of 2024, and the dining experience is outstanding, featuring local delicacies. It's my go-to spot for unwinding, enjoying the natural surroundings, and indulging in great food.
The hotel is in need of renovation in some areas and the pool needs to be retiled and sealed.
The room was basic , even though we paid for a superior room with balcony . There isn’t any furniture on any balcony , so nowhere to sit out and enjoy the views . The air con couldn’t be regulated at all . The bathrooms are old and tired , Our ‘mini bar’ was just a small fridge ,,, no drinks in it , no water provided in the rooms and no tea/coffee making facilities in the room .
The room was a decent size , the bed was ok . There was a wardrobe with coat hanger and when we asked for more , we got 4 . There are no drawers to put anything in . The TV is extra small , with intermittent WiFi .
Breakfast was appalling .. little choice and not much . Poolside bar food was terrible .
The hotel is out of the way , so a vehicle is needed . There is nothing close by . The hotel provide a driver but it’s very expensive .
Lots of steps so not good for anyone unsteady on their feet .
Very expensive for so little. Definitely not a 4 * .
Wouldn’t stay there again !!
A boutique type hotel set on road out of Pimonte. Described as 4* and challenged by other reviewers though I think that currently whilst they are completing their upgrades and renovations it is more of a solid 3+ * and will be the 4* shortly (check-out those basement toilets already finished - stylish beyond belief !)
Recommend a car as the buses are not to be relied upon.
Beautiful views all around this serene hotel which can be enjoyed whilst dining and outdoor relaxing.
Cool and classy feeling decoration in reception and dining interiors and a small but adequate pool. The rooftop Vesuvius Terrazza is amazing. As mentioned, some works ongoing /to be completed but did not experience any particular excess noise.
Some rooms (those not upgraded yet) are plainer than others so make your best budget choices when booking. Their Donna Carmel annexe across the road seems to have already been upgraded and is a suitable alternative if main building doesnt fulfill room requirements. The plentiful and shaded parking area is over here also.
Everything very clean, tidy and attractive with happy cleaning staff working all day.
Breakfast is a little underwhelming compared to other hotels but the main restaurant offers food that exceeds expectations each time.
Most lovely staff, professional reception and waiters.
Did experience one or two issues which I will not expand upon except to say that :
what is important is that they sorted it all out as quickly as possible, which is the sign of a good hotel. ''Stuff'' happens !
Overall a nice stay away from the touristy part of Italy.
Everything about it was beautiful. The staff was amazing, so kind and attentive. We loved our stay
The service of all the staff, the facility, and the food was outstanding. Will definitely come back to this hotel. Special thanks to Antonio and Maria and Zoomie from the front desk, Antonio, Franchesco, JR and Rafaelo at the restaurant. Bravo Zulu to you all and you made our stay in Italy memorable!
